Actor Shailesh Lodha, also a popular stand-up artist, is back in Mumbai after doing a live show in Turkey. He recited his poetry and even hosted the show there and got a lot of appreciation.
This actor, however, has never been seen hosting a show on the small screen. Ask Shailesh about that and he says, "TV shows do not need hosts, they need teleprompter readers. Most of them are not hosts but good faces. I feel so bad when I find so many errors in Hindi of these so-called hosts. The humour used by them is a caricature of humour itself."
Shailesh, who's a household name with his Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah on SAB, made a debut on the poetry stage as a child prodigy. He has also hosted and performed in thousands of shows in his three-decade-long career. He says it is more challenging doing live shows as there is no chance for retakes. He says, "I love being with the crowd and speak on the moments which I observe."
He is also known for his jet speed word jugglery without any script. He says, "My mind and my mouth are completely in sync with each other once I face the microphone and camera. Both stop only when the task is over. There is no scope of retakes as I neither read nor memorise," says Lodha, who is will receive Vimlesh Samman on October 17. The award is instituted in the memory of famous poet Late Vishwanath Vimlesh, for a poet who has done remarkable work in the field of humour and satire. The first award
was given to hasya kavi Surendra Sharma last year.
