He came to the end and lazily he climbed up the ladder and came out of the water.

If some girls called him Adonis incarnate. They had been totally right. He looked every bit of a Greek god. His bare chest decked with pearls of water. He stood upright with his torso gleaming his well-built abs. Water dripped from his wet hair, moving on to his eyebrows and his eyes. I felt my cheeks turn a deeper shade as I unabashed stared him. He wiped the clinging drops from his eyes and lips.

"If you are done ogling at me can we speak or you need some more time to check me out?"

"I….I..just got lost."

" I can understand," he winked.

" I meant I lost my WAY up here."

"Absolutely. I have no doubt that you did not wish to see me taking my bath."

I rolled my eyes.

"Are you done so that I can say something?"

"Since when you needed my permission to speak?"

" Fine. You seem alright. Thank goodness for this. You had left so fast that day that I did not get the chance to explain. It's not what you think what it is. Aman…"

"What ya wanted? Should I have jumped off the cliff knowing you are marrying that ****wimp?"

"There is no need to cuss him. Let's keep this to both of us."

"Great. I once again forgot your delicate feelings for him. Sorry."

"What's wrong with you? Now what did I say?"

" You are always defending him!"

"I just said there is no need to cuss him. For god's sake why are you being so jealous? Can't we sort it out peacefully between us?"

"Aman has already stepped in between us! And jealous and that too me? Ha! Who cares? You already have my congratulations for choosing that wimp."

"It's useless talking to you. I am going down to the party. Aman is waiting for me. "I added as an afterthought.

"He is here! That dork is here in my house?In my party without my knowledge? How can it be?"

"Oh how can you forget to bring along your dearest friend here to show me dowm?"

"You actually think that??"

"I can't think of a reason you'd bring him here unless you wanted to rub it on my face."

I stared back at him. "So you actually care eh? Wish you would sometimes actually care about others sentiments."

" oh my , so the offender is finding it offending. How about not ruffling people's raw wounds by repeatedly stamping your foot over it?"

Tears began to loom large in my eyes. " You believe that I am engaged with Aman and purposely brought him here?"

His icy cold deep hazel eyes pored at me.

"Most definitely yes."

Blinking through my tears I smiled at him. "You really understand me the best. I have nothing more to say."

I moved forwards to go towards the exit of this huge indoor swimming pool room. He lurched forward blocking my way. I was now staring at his bare pearls decked shinning wet chest. Slowly I raised my head to look him in his eyes bend intently upon me.

"Nupur."

His soft whisper sent a shiver through my spine. The proximity of our nearness hit me.

On one side was the swimming pool and the wall on the other ; the windows where I had gone to marvel the beautiful sunset outside was behind my back. The way to the exit was blocked by Mayank.

Ignoring him I tried to move sideways. Following my steps he refused to budge out of my way. He inched closer. Suddenly I felt warm inside as I felt myself shivering seeing him so close.

"I apologize for my rudeness."

I looked back at him." It does not matter. Thanks for clearing it out that you don't care. I was a fool to get tensed for nothing."

"No..it's not what I…."

"Mayank please." I silently pleaded with my teary eyes to end this now.

He moved aside clearing my way. Hurriedly I stepped forward taking care to maintain distance so as not to touch him in the way. The high heels of my Channels slipped on the wet surface near the pool and I hit the cold water as I fell inside the pool with a splash.

The water's coldness hit me as I got drenched. Having never learnt swimming yet the density of water failed to support my weight as I felt myself going under the liquid layers. Water entered my mouth, ears and nose as I struggled to keep afloat. I decided to jerk myself up with full force. My hands felt the air outside but once again I was pulled inside. Darkness started to engulf my brain as my breathing inside got difficult. I heard a loud splash nearby.

It was getting difficult to keep my eyes open . My body felt heavier. I desperately removed the jacket I was wearing on top of my dress. But it was of no use. I was drowning.

Something slimy crawled behind my bare back of my backless gown. The sliminess went up to my stomach and with much greater force it jerked me up. It was Mayank. I felt my nostrils get the desired air as he lifted me out of the water in his arms. I clasped his shoulders tightly with my arms and buried my head in his chest. The strength in me was fading. Once again darkness began to engulf me and soon it conquered me.

There was a faint light at the end of the pitch-back tunnel. The light glowed some more. It felt lighter. Air. I wanted air. Something watery had clogged my respiratory tract. A smooth current of warm air entered inside as the light glowed again. In small regular intervals more warm air entered. I felt my chest heaving. Something hard yet soft was moving on my lips. I felt my stomach tightly pressed from above. Slowly I opened my eyes. Mayank was blowing air inside my mouth. He was pressing my stomach as the excess water inside leaked from my mouth. The warm air stopped. His eyes stared in intently in mine questioning me. I closed them in response.

The giddy movement was back on my lips as he gently yet firmly placed his wet lips on mine and pumped air inside. Slowly I felt the clogging inside ease up and my nostrils taking in greedily the air outside.

The water was cold . So was the marble on which I was laid upon my bare back. But all I felt was unnatural warmth. I was trembling all over whenever his lips brushed mine. Breathing was again getting difficult as I tried to control my raging mind.

The giddiness on my lips stopped. He lifted his face.

"Are you okay now?"

Sacred of what my voice would let him know I nodded my head in a yes.

"How can you be so careless Nupur? When you don't know swimming can't you avoid going so near the deep side of the pool? What was to happen if I was not here? Why are you all the time so freaking reckless?"

Please don't scold me. I looked imploringly at him.

"I think you need medical aid. I am calling the doctor." He got up from the floor.

"NO. Wait. It's alright." I tried lifting my wet body off the floor.

"Now don't exert yourself!"

He laid his hand on my bare back sending trembles inside me as he helped me get on my feet.

" I am okay. That was sufficient when you…..you……the first aid you gave me." I looked down.

"Well….if you say so. I think you need to change. You are completely drenched."

Suddenly I realized how the wet cloth was hugging me tightly. The jacket I had wore to hide the backless gown was floating in the water. I could sense his eyes on me. I flushed hard.

"Yes…I…I can't go to the party like this. I shall leave now."

"Let me escort you to your room."

I was hesitating to turn around and open the door with him behind me as he could easily have a good view of my bare back.

"Mayank I can manage now. You should go. What will all think you r roaming here in your towel."

"Haahaa…don't worry I roam in my house without that too sometimes. You just go inside and have some rest. Don't stress for the party. I will tell Dia. The party will go on quite late so you need not worry."

"Thanks."

"Anything for you."

I looked up into his eyes yet again. You don't really mean that , do you? I hated his well-measured words. How can you just stop at that?

"Nupur aren't you done yet. I have been waiting downstairs for so long. But you are here…..and wet……and with Mayank!!"

" Welcome to my house Aman."

" You are filthy rich to have a house like this. Nupur…err…why are you both guys wet and Mayank…..in this state?"

"Aman I…….."

"She lost her way and mistakenly entered my swimming pool area and slipped. She was drowning when I rescued her. You can imagine for yourself what I was doing there before to be in this state."

"Oh Nupur. Dear , are you alright…..you seem so shaken….how I wish I was there to help..oh….

"It's okay."

"No I should have been the one to help you. How can I be so careless…I…"

"Aman. It's okay. I am fine. Relax."

"If you say then."

"Well I am going to change and then come down."

"Right. It's almost time for the party to start. Isn't it Mayank"

" Sure. Take care Nupur." He turned to go back.

"One minute Mayank. Just don't forget to grab a shirt on. It's not fair on the girls."

"Really?it affects them?" He turned back again to face us."Does my being half-naked bothers you Nupur?" He smirked.

I wish I had drowned in the pool. What the ……..?

" Just when are you guys planning to show up down?" a fuming Dia clad in a stunning turquoise gown came stomping down the corridor."

" How did Ian fell for you. He should see your face now."

"Mayank! Everyone is waiting for you downstairs."

And Nupur you are wet…..and Mayank you like this…..and Aman you too here….what happened?"

" Let me change first ….then I'll tell."

Sighing in relief I dashed inside my room.
