X-Men 3 star wishes he were in 'Potter'
MAY 23, 2006 at 8:44 AM

Source: Cannes Film Festival

Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie series, lamented at a Cannes Film Festival press conference recently that he hasn't been asked to be in the Harry Potter films.

"Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies," he replied when asked if he wanted to continue doing fantasy films. "I am still smarting from the fact that Ian McKellen starred in Lord of the Rings and apparently there was no part in it for me."

Prior to the X-Men films, Stewart was best known for his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation.

X-Men: The Last Stand opens in theatres this weekend.

Publisher: Book 7 'likely' in 2007

Bloomsbury publishing director Liz Calder said the next and final Harry Potter book is "likely" to be released in 2007... she hopes.

At the British Council's Creative Future conference in India this week, Calder allegedly said as much in an interview with Indo-Asian News Service:

"One more 'Harry Potter' only but she (Rowling) said from the beginning that she would write seven. So she would not write another one after this. But Rowling would write other books for us," said Liz.

"The next 'Harry Potter' book is likely to come out in 2007. I hope so."

While Calder's comments are optimistic at best, she's one of only a handful of people other than Jo herself who could make such a weighty prediction

Young Marauders, others cast for 'Phoenix'

James Walters is to be Young Sirius Black, James Utechen will play a Young Remus Lupin and Alec Hopkins will portray Young Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it was reported today by CBBC Newsround.

The trio of "Young Marauders" will provide a glimpse into Harry's parent's generation in the film, in which they portray several of the main adult characters while they were still at Hogwarts themselves.

In a major casting change, Helena Bonham Carter will replace Helen McCrory as deatheater Bellatrix Lestrange, as McCrory now expects to be "heavily pregnant" during what would have been her filming. (Carter was last seen as Charlie's mom in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She also voiced a character in Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit opposite Ralph Fiennes.)

Care of Magical Creatures Professor Grubbly-Plank will be portrayed by 25-year stage veteran Apple Brook. Finally, Jason Piper will play Bane the Centaur.

Broker bullish about book 7

Stocks of Scholastic will head north ahead of the publication of JK Rowling's to-be-named seventh book in her Harry Potter series, says analyst Drew Crum.

"We are compelled by the potential upside in the shares given the impending publication of 'Harry Potter' number seven, when considering the stock's history of advancing and peaking ahead of a book release," he said.

Crum researched educational publishers and found that conditions are ripe for growth, thanks to school budget increases mandated by the "No Child Left Behind" act. Scholastic is doubly special because of its status as the Potter pusher in America.

However, the New York Times last week intimated that books aimed at children will see quite the opposite:

...growth in children's books is expected to decline sharply in 2007, when no Harry Potter book is currently scheduled for publication.
