ey paired up for the first time in the superhit Love Aaj Kal (2009), went off-the-beaten track in Aarakshan and will be seen next in another Saif Ali Khan home production, Cocktail. Deepika Padukone has been raving about her "fantastic" co-star with whom she shares a great "comfort level". But while insisting that she had no problems with his steady date, when Kareena Kapoor came for the shoots in London and Hyderabad, Deepika was quoted as saying, "Can't help if Kareena feels insecure. I can't do anything about that. I don't think she has anything to worry about."
Reacting to the statement, Saif says, "Kareena is not at all insecure, she has no reason to be. She is the most confident girl in the world. I read the article too and I think they sensationalised it a bit. As far as I can see, things are absolutely fine between Deepika and Kareena."
Kareena is equally vocal on the subject: "Deepika is a sweet girl and has always been really warm. Why should I be insecure if she is doing three movies with Saif? It's not as if he wants her in every movie, just that she suited the role in these three. And Saif's production is like my own anyway."
Brushing off the rumours as media speculation blown out of proportion, the actor, who has three recent big blockbusters to her credit, including 3 Idiots (2009), Golmaal 3 (2010) and Bodyguard, points out there is no reason for her to feel insecure and have issues with anyone. "Even if I were No. 100, I'd still be confident in my own space. And it's ridiculous to suggest that I'd be insecure in a relationship. In fact, I'd want Saif to work as many heroines as possible," she asserts.
Saif agrees and points out that his relationship with Kareena goes beyond work, and it was a conscious decision to keep their professional and personal lives separate. "People already see the two of us together at parties and events, so doing too many movies together would be an overkill. That's why we're both working with different co-stars and there's no reason for any of us to get ruffled about what people are saying or not saying, as long as we are happy together," he retorts.
He's in a chilled out space because unlike Agent Vinod that stretched the deadline and is slowly inching towards the finish, Cocktail is well on track. "It's an easier film to shoot since it's an emotional love story but very different from Love Aaj Kal despite the fact that it has Deepika and me. We're not trying to blow up London in this film, not that we'd get permission to do so even if we wanted. We had to go to eastern Europe for that in Agent Vinod," he laughs, adding that he's enjoying being directed by Homi (Adajania) again after Being Cyrus (2005).
"Like any Parsi, he is incredibly organised. The film is 70 per cent complete in just three months. We have just one outdoor left and it should be wrapped by year-end and in the theatres by early next year."
