I worry - Baapji/Mohan/Kastur

Today's confrontation scene was nice and all. And Mohan told the truth about how the rest of the family is afraid of Baapji, and said straight up that Baapji's ways were not the way to go.

But, the thing is - what was Mohan going to do with that money had he gotten it? Was he going to use some of it to pay the loan sharks? Build a business and pay off the sharks through his profit? What?

Because if it's the former, Mohan is not exactly in the right. And for that reason, I worry that Baapji will end up being vindicated. I also hope to high heavens that Kastur isn't disliked by everyone there but Baapji.

They are making a mistake in having Mohan be completely unsuccessful and with so many problems. I don't mean flirting, drinking, womanizer. I mean no education, loan sharks, drowning in debt. How is this not legitimizing Baapji's Baba Ramdev-like rants?

Actually today's episode was good. Story is moving on very fast pace But I guess Baapji is too much. I mean family lives in mumbai so I could not understand his action sometimes. Needs to cut down his sceenspace.

At least someone is there who can speak to him, argue with him.

I agree with both of you that Mohan was right in all he said to Baapji. And april10, yes you've brought up the fact that they live in Bombay. Really now. And Baapji's going on and on about "Videshi" and gora bhasha. Ridiculous.

However, we the audience know that Mohan asked for the money because loan sharks are after him. That's my whole problem with the "didn't finish his degree" etc. They don't have to pile it all on one after the other. No degree, loan sharks, etc etc.

Kastur's family is traditional. Actually, so is the Gala family as well. Baapji's sexist, chauvinistic, jingoistic, regressive views shouldn't be justified as traditional.

What traditional family tells a college going son that there's no point in his going to college? That's traditional? Many villagers will be glad if they have the means to send sons off to get an education (we won't go into daughters). And it's not true that a college education wouldn't help in the Masala business. There are many ways to apply the knowledge to the business should Vipul decide to join the family business.

It's one thing to not want English spoken in the house, as a way of preserving the mother tongue. But the way Baapji keeps on calling it "gora language" and talking about Videshi, etc.

Yeah let's not forget it's also the language in which the the Indian Constitution was written... a few years after independence.

However, I forgot to add one thing. I do agree somewhat with the last part of your post. Mohan really hates Baapji's regressive ways? He should've made good use of the opportunity to study and earn the degree.

Use that degree to get a job somewhere. Craft an idea, go to investors, banks, etc with a business plan.

But we all know he probably* didn't complete his studies, and he asked for that money mainly because of the loan sharks were closing in.

Sigh. The CVs better know where they're going with this.

*Not yet confirmed on the show itself, but told in the synopsis.

Even if Mohan is wrong it does not prove baapji is right because mohan's wrong is due to zero freedom he had before going to London all thanks to bappji
