Kiss Scene in Tellywood

I know many fans who want a kiss scene in their favorite show. And off and on they are told that that's impossible since a kiss is a BIG deal in Tellywood and it's gonna take a few leap years to get to that point, if at all.

Personally I don't get why such a big deal is made out of it? And I mean by both sides. Why do the fans want an actual kiss? Why does it matter? I know at least two on screen couples who can have sizzling and intense chemistry on screen without a kiss. And it can be done the old way too.. you know instead of showing the actual kiss, blur it out or focus on the lamp instead 😆 And on the other hand, why is such a big deal in Tellywood? These days when there's a kiss in pretty much every single movie (and much much more in many movies), why is a simple kiss such a no-no in Tellywood?

So I'm just wondering... given that the actors are okay with it, what's your take on the topic? And please provide reasons.. after all, it's debate section :)

I don't follow Indian shows much, so I don't get why kissing is such a big deal. I think kissing is fine. People always have a choice what to watch, they can choose a different show or change channels.

A kiss is a normal part of a romantic relationship. Kisses are not absolutely necessary, but there is no good reason not to have them either. I think its a bit archaic to oppose to kisses. Well done kisses can add to dimensions and range of relationships, and badly done kisses can make relationships oversexed or contrived.

My personal opinion is that Tellywood is reluctant to kisses due to the social influences. I mean that in Asian culture its still a big deal to kiss and I personally think its pretty cute when parents shut their children's eyes when a kiss scene is about to happen. I am not saying that kissing is bad but its a cultural thing to do away with it. This has nothing to do with people not thinking out of the box but rather preferring to stick to their morals and what they were brought up with. Bollywood targets a wide range of audience, a considerable amount of whom would appreciate intimate scenes, whereas Tellywood has a smaller range of audience and mostly Asians.
Also, in a movie the pair dont get much time to build the necessary amount of chemistry thus the songs and kisses but Tellywood actors can work on their chemistry for months so I think they dont really require kissing scenes to build on chemistry.

I agree.. I think the only thing about this is watching those shows with families and some (read as *many*) of them are not comfortable watching kissing scenes... so that creates a bit of awkwardness.

It's your opinion and I respect everyone's opinion even though I may not necessarily agree with it. Tellywood has had some great shows... yes, a lot of times they are ruined due to unnecessary need of adding episodes, but some of them are good!

Very well put 👏👏 To add to your point, that's true for absolutely any romantic scenes. If done appropriately, the audience will fall in love with them, otherwise they can be too sleazy.

Ahh...! I totally agree with your point. 👏 Ultimately it all depends on the kind of audience they are catering to. Bollywood has audience all over the world, whereas Tellywood is limited. And it's in the culture. I'm not saying they are backwards to anything. In fact, my family has been living in the U.S. for over 30 years now and still there's a bit of awkwardness when everyone's together and an intimate scene comes up.. so I completely understand what you mean.

^ I pretend as if nothing happened.. Once I change the channel I'm literally like "LOOK at that gorgeous butterfly!" Though I think that kind of reaction totally makes things more awkward 😆
