Indian dance shows are focusing more on the western styles because they feel that the audience likes it and they are in trend right now...
but they are not thinking that their international viewers would like to see
something more classical that is attached to the culture...
its sad how locking and popping dancers always get more importance
because they show new tricks n stunts...also many of the choreographers
themselves are never trained in classical...
I feel tht they should make challenges where the judges assign the dancers wit a new dancestyle each week and we should get to see all
the poppers do some classical... and saumita do ANYTHING ELSE!

The problem is that classical dancers have been trained for years and years - it is much easier (in my opinion and observation) for a classical dancer to attempt western forms of dance than it is for a primarily western style dancer to perform classical. No matter how good they do, it will never be good enough because you cannot practice years of dance in one week. Also, we lump together all non-Indian classical dance forms into one and give it a name like western style dance, when in reality, there are hundreds of dance forms lumped in that one category. I think the best thing for reality shows to do is to dedicated each week to one dance form, forcing all contestants to attempt all dance forms and show their versatility (and how quickly they can pick up a form that is not their forte).
