The Best Block Buster

Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin, Dia Mirza on their best blockbuster
Ready, Delhi Belly, Murder 2, Singham or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – which recent hit film deserved the resounding box-office applause?Celebs make their pick
Mamujaan's guts
Imran Khan
I just cannot look beyond Delhi Belly, though among all the hits so far this year, I also liked Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara a lot.
What was best about Delhi Belly was that though many viewers liked the film tremendously and went to see it again and again, there was an equal number of people who said it was a dirty film and hated it from the core of their hearts.
It means that the film made an impact, whether positively or negatively, in the minds of the viewers. Instead of giving all the credit for the success of the film to us actors, I would say that the film was a big hit only because of the writer and the director – and last but not the least mamujaan, for having had the guts to back a project like that.
Deserved success
Adah Sharma
I am a big movie maniac who enjoys watching every new film that is released. Out of all the recent films, I would say Delhi Belly deserved the kind of success it got, though I would not like to put down the other hit films of the month, like Murder 2, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Singham. Delhi Belly was a very entertaining film.
I went with four friends to watch the film at a multiplex. Not a single person in the auditorium touched his or her cellphone even once when the film was on, nor did anyone feel the urge to go to the washroom in between for a leak. I think Delhi Belly was a total winner. I would not call it crude.
All I will say is, to each his own. It all boils down to how you perceive a movie. Every actor was perfectly cast in the film, whether it was Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Imran Khan or Vir Das.
Risk that clicked
Katrina Kaif
At the risk of being selfish and naming my own film, I have to say that among all the successful films that were released this year, I liked Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
Zoya made the film with the courage of her convictions and in the process went beyond the conventional norms of making a mainstream film, without any kind of restrictions, if you know what I mean.
Frankly, when I was acting in the film, I thought it was a very risky proposition from the box-office point of view and was really surprised when it clicked in a big way!
Masala
Sonakshi Sinha
Ready and Singham were two films I enjoyed watching and I am glad they were hits because they were full of masala action and were compelling entertainers.
I am a big fan of Salman and Ajay and loved the way they were portrayed in these films.
Strong story
Neil Nitin Mukesh
I really loved Singham. It was a complete story, a total entertainer with a strong storyline and morals.
Ajay Devgn wins with full power. I am glad it was a hit, as it deserved to be.
'TWo' good
Bipasha Basu
I have seen Delhi Belly and ZNMD and I loved them both. While the first is a contemporary gangster film with wry humour, the other one is a breezy watch.
Delhi Belly was really new and refreshing for Hindi cinema and that film remains my favourite this year.
It deserved to be a hit and I am glad it was. I intend to see Murder 2 and Singham soon. The fact that they all did well is great for our business.
Finesse
Sonali Kulkarni
I simply loved Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara! I liked the way Abhay Deol, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar vibed with one another and embarked on a long journey to explore new experiences.
I also liked the finesse with which Zoya etched the complexities of the various characters, whether it was Hrithik Roshan who made money his priority or Farhan Akhtar (who gave an exemplary, witty portrayal) as the distressed son in search of his real father.Katrina did a good job, putting to rest all doubts about her abilities as an actress.
I remember Zoya as a dedicated AD when I was working in Dil Chahta Hai. Zoya has never emphasized that she is a woman director and has proved that you can be a thorough professional without flaunting your gender. I'm glad she has scored with her second film, undeterred that Luck By Chance did not click at the box-office.
De-stressers
Pooja Bedi
I simply loved Delhi Belly and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. They were fresh and highly entertaining.
Both the films had fabulous acting, logical plots and made us laugh out loud in this age of high stress and multiple pressures.
Honest and clean
Dia Mirza
I loved ZMND and it deserved to be a hit. I saw the film before it was released and I prayed that it would be a great hit, simply because it was a progressive, honest and clean film.
It was filled with good performances and nuances that celebrate cinema. It's reassuring to know that audiences appreciated these qualities in the film.
Connectible
Rajniesh Duggal
I have seen all the hit films which were released this year. Delhi Belly, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Singham, Murder 2 … but among all of them, the film which I feel deserved to be a hit was Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara because it is a connectible film which touches your heart instantly. It is a today's film, a multiplex movie which every viewer can relate to easily.
In fact I have friends in London who have gone through the kind of phase which Abhay or Hrithik have experienced in the film. As an actor, the film belongs totally to Farhan Akhtar because, unlike Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol, he was the underdog. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is one film which I can see repeatedly and not get bored at all.
Better than Hollywood
Mohan Kapur
Delhi Belly and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara deserved to be hits. Delhi Belly, because of its script, performances and the sheer shock factor. Earlier, Hollywood films were better than our Indian films, of late Hollywood is making crappy films, while a film like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has been lapped up for its sheer layers and is a triumph of screenplay writing.
I have come back to acting after a gap of eight years because I am happy that films like Delhi Belly are being made now and I can be a part of them. Delhi Belly has worked because audiences' tastes have changed.
Youth-oriented
Himani Shivpuri
It is only once in a while that different films like Rang De Basanti, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge or Delhi Belly, come along. I'd say without any hesitation that Delhi Belly is one film that deserved its success. I liked it for its fresh and innovative approach.
Though it could have ended up as a formula film, the writer created interesting and wacky situations. Delhi Belly was also very promising in terms of technique. Kunaal Roy Kapur was a surprise package.
I found the film hilarious and I could identify with a lot of situations in it, to the extent that after I watched the film, I refused to touch any samosa on the sets, presuming it would be stale! The USP of Delhi Belly was that it set out to project the 'young' point of view. The youth of today are very bindaas, so I did not find anything vulgar in it. Delhi Belly showed reality, not vulgarity!
Entertaining
Sudesh Bhosle
Singham is one film which truly deserves all the success that it has been getting. It is not boring and at a time when life is full of stress, it sets out to entertain the masses.
I loved the way Ajay Devgn portrayed the role of Bajirao Singham. I became Ajay's fan after I watched him in an action film like Once Upon A Time. I liked him in his comedy films like Golmaal too.
What I like best about Ajay is that he has a toned body, he looks the part in Singham and his voice too suits his physique. In Singham, Ajay Devgn reminds you of Vinod Khanna's virility.
Winners
Arjan Bajwa
I enjoyed Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Murder 2 for their varied subjects. They were both shot brilliantly and had great music too. Above all, the superb direction of Zoya Akthar and Mohit Suri turned them into winners. These films deserve all the success they got.
