Seven deadly sins and the purohits

Few days back I was watching the movie Saat Khoon Maaf. This movie is based on Ruskin Bonds story Sussanaha's Seven Husbands and is basically an allegory on the Seven Deadly sins. These seven deadly sins are wrath (anger), greed, sloth (spiritual and emotional apathy), pride, lust, envy and gluttony (withholding from the needy). It is believed that the seven deadly sins kills one soul and interesting enough the characters in Phurohit Mansion are representative of these sins……wrath (Virat, badi bahu), greed (Virat, badi bahu, Rohan), sloth (almost the entire family leaving out Dev), pride (dada, badi bahu, virat, Rohan), lust (Virat, Rohan),envy (Mohini, dai) and gluttony (badi bahu and virat). No wonder there was no soul in that house and Dev was being totally crushed but the change was initiated with the entrance of Radhika…..mainly to free Dev from the links to the sins and to free his soul.

God never forgets his creations...he made them after his own features but people tend to alternate god's work and pick up those faults, those sins...yes,the purohits are one of those...but out there are exceptions and thats dev...he is a pure creation of god ...thats why radh is there to protect him from that family dirth...to perserve his soul...she is god sent...

Great topic misti. Dev has to deal with the 7 sins all at the same time. But Padma to me has changed, she seems to be on the good side (for now). Apart from her and Dev, everyone else is pure sin.

Misti, great analysis. However, I put Rohan also in wrath and envy category. He is envious of Dev. Would he be that disturbed if Radhika had married someone else? He would have been disturbed no doubt as he is obsessed about Radhika, but that crying was that he lost Radhika and he lost his war finally with Dev.
But seeing your seven sins analysis, I do have to reiterate that this family is not that redeemable as Kashi Maharaj predicted.

Thanks Shankar...Although Padma for the time being appears to be good but to me she has not changed, for me she would have changed if the change had been permanent...and for that she has to let go of her insecurity.

😆...well kashi maharaja was hoping and might be still hoping that they might change. Dada was given an oppurtunity to change...even after being paralysed and poked by badi bahu he still did not get the message...infact all the characters have been given a second chance...Virat and badi bahu are back to their old ways...dai and Mohinis envy have increased...Rohan is a big question mark and he still has feelings for Radhika ...Padma's insecurity is still there ...
