Okay time for weekend musing - I didn't want to miss this weekend, even if its officially a day or so to last - before the finale ME tomorrow.

Without digressing.
-----
Quiz time: What's common to JK Rowling's HP series and Gulaal - the show -?
.
.
.
Odd question? Not really. The answer is names. I personally have a huge thing for fiction with thoughtful names that have underlying ground work - such that the names actually fit the characters as the characters fit into the plot's scheme of things. There is separate HP book, an entire book - which is all about why the streets, courses, characters, places, and of course spells, in HP series have the names - proper nouns - that they do.

Gulaal doesn't go to the extent of street and city names maybe - unless its purely my barely average Hindi vocab that keeps me from understanding - but some character names sure fit the entire plot, when one looks at things in retrospect.

Of course, we've always found the implicit interlink between the names Gulaal and Kesar. Both not just colors - but colors that arise from the same section of the spectrum, with comparable frequencies and wavelengths, colors that in a sense complement each other. Yes, Gulaal very typically also means the holi color - but it can just mean the color Gulaal. And Kesar is the saffron of course. Not just a color, but a flavoring ingredient in food.
Something like the characters of Kesar and Gulaal - each with their own distinct traits, yet each with that extremely overlapping common 'spectrum' of qualities to share.

Then there is Vasant. Spring? A very apt name, when you think of the life span of this character in the show. A short lived season, which aims at drawing away the melancholy and dreary winds of winter - pleasant, fragrant, colorful, a harbinger of new life! Spring is the most cherished of seasons - when one thinks of a fresh start. A beautiful fresh start - where everything is just perfect. Vasant has been a character like that. A character which comes to an end too soon, but not before everyone has had a chance to experience its sheer bliss, not before everyone has been given that wishful idea of seeking its return - this way or that.

To me - Kesar has been more like the Fall. A contrast to spring in definition - yet sharing some drastic commons. The Fall (or Autumn) is beautiful in an unorthodox manner. It may be an acquired beauty for many - just like Kesar's character is shown to be someone who takes his time making that space for himself in people's heart, even though he has officially been the cherished baby of the house. Yet in being beautiful, Fall retains its own character - does not emulate Spring. Fall comes after bearing the brunt of hot scorching summers - just like Kesar undergoes his decade of burning inside - and its not fresh or green or new life like in typical sense ... but it has its own colors - interesting, the colors are shades of ochre - a key color in the base being saffron aka Kesar.

And again - there is Dushyant. In literal meaning, the end of 'dusht' - or evil. How true of the character it depicts! In the name of reform, we have seen much evolution in characters, over time, and especially over the last couple weeks. But really Dushyant has been personification of his name - from being the darkest character in its extent of exuding evil aura - to becoming a near saint martyr of kind. If one thinks of it - his name should always have been indication of how his character would go - in vague outlines. But then, its not everyday that one expects such thought given to 'names' of characters on Indian TV... or even TV in general. We've loved a show which is different like that for a reason!

Anyway - then there is Talli of course. I have not a clue in the world what her names means, or what the meaning signifies. But is anyone really surprised her name is... well, meaningless?! Lol, pun intended, but not unkindly 😆 I suppose in a way it makes sense that she has a random name like that 😆

And that's me with names for now. Unless anyone has any more to add from the show, given, as I confessed, my only functional vocab level in Hindi - maybe I'm missing the same idea for other names? Please share if you know!

But more explicitly, here's what this thread is about. Think about one thing very unique and becoming of this show that appeals to you. Nothing typically discussed already about its characters and story line - but you know... something that we all sort of see and appreciate in the back of our mind, but don't often get around to mentioning. Share why a trivial nothing is actually significant something to you, in terms of its subtle ways of living up to the standard of the show. I personally have a thing for names, like I said - so that's what I mentioned.

Think hard - and do chip in. This is really the last active weekend on the forum in the airing of the show... and we all have something of 24-36 hours to pass before the finale anyway!

So long,
JZee

---

Noticed my font and formatting is back?! 😎 Yayyy - guess who got her computer back?! 😃 Well, for a grace period of some hours anyway... I had to use all the debating skill and means in the world, but I was showed Kesar like dedication and Gulaal like bull headed-ness to the cause 😆

AND - so... I did a quick weekend whip as well!!! Like come on - can you imagine getting a computer after a week of living in the stone age?! So yeh. Scroll down for that - enjoy, and don't forget reviews!

xx

Okay so this song can tend to be very teen or college or contemporary in its lyrics - but I chose the section that fit GK inside my head when I heard it! It's short cause I didn't have that much time - and cause the remaining lyrics get too circumstantial anyway!

ps: Ignore 'remote ko chupana' and pretend the lyrics said 'chittiyaan chupana?!' LOL! I dunno how to blur out lyrics or I'd up touched up that bit...

Anyway - enjoy! Can you believe tomorrow, and that's it?! It really will end. Sigh.

The legacy shall linger in essence for a long time... I think of the poem 'The Ancient Mariner':

water water everywhere... not a drop to drink...

That's what creativity and quality on TV is like, rather has been like, for years now. I shall remember Gulaal by, for my forever, as a serendipitous little stretch amidst shows, shows everywhere, not a show to watch!

Anyway - enjoy watching, and review please! 😳

Name: Vasant
Gender: Male
Origin: Hindu
Meaning: Spring season.

Name : Kesar
Gender : Boy
Category : Indian
Meaning : Saffron

Name: Gulal
Meaning: Auspicious powder
Sex: Girl

The season of Spring makes flowers grow by bringing rain and water and good weather conditions for plants to grow ,
including the plant saffron crocus (Saffron).

Saffron is also used to make Gulal

(An excellent skin freshener can be prepared by soaking a few stalks of Saffron, known as Kesar locally, in two table spoons of water for few hours. Then grind them to a fine paste and dilute them with water to get the desired color. However, this preparation is expensive yet worth for its quality and fragrance.)

Saturday ko bhi dimaag ki batti jalani padegi... its rest day Jzee... aaj chutti le lo.. just joking, but i just had huge brunch, and all I want to do is sit back and relax and watch some classic GK scenes...

Hmmm... not to digress, I started watching Gulaal on such a similar lazy day I think.. this was a few days after Kesar's entry. and Kesu was being at his rude best to Gullu.. and even then, it spelt amazing CHEMISTRY... i couldn't keep myself from looking up the old episodes and watching them ... it took me almost like a week to catch up on the entire show... well, I havent watched much before the entry of Kesuda in the show, when he welcomed Gulaal into Telsagra with a stone.. even as young Kesu, he was sooo captivating.. I couldn't not fall in love with the two - Kesar and Gulaal...

There was no romance between the two, it was just a unique friendship between them. supporting each other, having fun and being just there for each other. Ali Haji did such a wonderful job, that I think it was almost as good as what we got when Neil came as Kesar...

Well, so, it was this amazing chemistry between Neil - Mansi, and Ali-Mansi... which got me hooked.. but I don't have one good reason why I got so addicted to it. Here was a show which didnt have the usual characters of complete white or black shades... there were grey characters... each one who did wrongs, had a valid reason and later even remorse to justify for it...

Nor was any character so goody good, except Vasant that you feel alienated by him. Each one of them were so real.

Jzee I wish I had one special liking for anything quirky about the show.. but, it was just plain simple emotional connect for the show... so, rare for a hindi show of quality...

ps: Congrats that you got your laptop back, even if only on grace period... enjoy it while you can !!!!

lovely JZee lovely 👏 👏, i loved each n every line which u have written, beautiful description of kesar n gulaal n offcourse vasant n dushyant n for talli... ya i also have no idea what her name means 😕... i loved how u have related kesar's character to autumn... offcourse significantly the color of autumn is so much from the family of saffron color, i m having flashes of autumn in front of my eyes right now... little bit cold, little bit warm... its dry all around... saffron, reddish, orangish colors spread all around in front of our eyes, trees loosing their leaves but just to have a totally new beginning, a begginning full of life... the same way now kesar is going to have a new beginning... with vasant's help... well ok i should say, with spring's help... its like vasant came n as his name means spring... he brought spring in kesar's life n gulaal is color so its like the spring comes n fills n spreads colors on autumn n then its a new phase, a new era, n the autumn phase in kesar's life vl also be over n it vl be colors all around or v can see gulaal all around...

gulaal hai gulaal hai gulaal hai 😊...

n the VM song is amazing JZee, loved it 👏👏 n hey congratulations on getting ur laptop back, n how r u feeling now 😛???

Okay - so I had another PM from a new IF member called Poorna - who mentioned that the meaning of Talli in Telgu and Sanskrit is 'mother' 😲 Okay, that kinda doesn't fit her character inside my head. Although, she does try her best to emulate Gullu's patronizing trait a little too much!

She also said the word Kesar means Lion - ye hui na shero waali baat! 😆 Considering Neil is a Leo himself, the Lion thing is all the more fitting! =)

Minks - thanks for giving up Saturday laze and posting! You've still scene Gulaal longer than I have... I think I came in around the pareshani scene *sigh* yeh, that's how little I've actively enjoyed Gulaal and how much I had to catch up on the past!

Piyu - I actually broke up the name Dushyant and came up with that meaning, as for many Hindi words... but thanks for the correction Piyu! And Talli being hero *shakes head* the CVs obviously gave no 'real thought' to her name - just like they pass giving thought to Kulli scenes and dialogs, tsk!

Kiran - aww thank you! I'm glad you could relate the Fall with Kesar - its so so so true, isn't it?! That contrast yet similarity between the brothers in character? I like how the names are not just true of their characters, but also interlink!

Angel - wow, what flower is that? Interesting observation with the 'clothes' they wear! Although we get tons of repeat days, one can observe the trend they maintain in making Gulaal wear certain dresses on certain full circle occasions... Like the first time Kesar noticed her open hair, and the mandir scene when he admired her first time as a free person - she wore the same dress! Or like she wore the same dress for both when Kesar called Panchayat to break the DV, and then again, when the DV did break - or even that she wore the same blue uniform when kesar confessed his love in the rain, and then when she proposed they become friends like old times! I personally think sometimes at least, there is conscious coordination of those clothing schemes, not to mention how color coordinated GK looked in their recent best of worst couple phase! ☺️

Reemz - I know. 😒 I've trying to think what Monday onwards will be like, but honestly I can't still imagine it. I suppose it will have to come to be realized. Until then, I really hope tomorrow is worth it. They wont have another Friday and Sunday this time to make up for anything going spectacularly wrong...

Everyone - the laptop is gone again - blah! But I'll get it back for a while tomorrow after the ME yayyy! I can be quite the blackmailer when I choose to be - my friend had to give in
