Mansi: mature character Gulaal was challenging
Mansi Parekh began her journey in a new and different show Gulaal on STAR Plus a year ago, now that the show comes to an end, we talk to Mansi about her experience as Gulaal, importance of the show and more.
Gulaal will soon end, how are you feeling about it? With a smile Mansi says, "I am feeling great as the show has had a good run and we are ending at a high point and not when the audience has got bored of it. Gulaal has pushed boundaries of television serials and gave me a once in a life time opportunity."
What were the high points for you as an actress on the show? "The role of Gulaal is a never seen before on tv. I explored myself and it has been creatively, physically, emotionally, satisfying to play Gulaal. I would say I am a better person after playing Gulaal. She was a challenge in all ways possible. She is not an ordinary bahu standing in a corner being pretty and crying always. She has seen a lot in life, all possible colours and the role has been full-fledged in all manners possible. Gulaal is a mature character," she claims.
Gulaal was about a girl who could find water. But she did find water only twice in the show. Why wasn't the track followed? And do you feel if Vasant hadn't been killed -it could have helped the show? Manasi replies, "No the water bit and Vasant's death were never an issue. The core of Gulaal's story was always the deyarvatu. I knew the story from beginning to end and Vasant's death or her water finding ability were explored as required in the story – it was never the main plot."
What is the best thing you like about playing Gulaal? "I got the chance to act with some of the biggest and best names in the industry Sushant Singh, Mohan Joshi, Rahil Azim and others. My director, producer and writers have been fantastic."
How important would you say Gulaal has been for you? "Gulaal has been very important for me as I got a show on prime time on a popular channel like Star. Many dream of such opportunities and I made the best of it. We had a good run for a year and the show was challenging yet commercial and got great audience support."
How was your equation with Rahil Azim aka Vasant? And how is it with Neil Bhatt aka Kesar? "I am shooting with Rahil for the mahaepisode and it was fantastic working with him. He is a good performer and we got along well. As for Neil, he is a promising guy, hard working and will surely make it big." Mansi is all smiles as her show comes to an end.
