You and Rain!
It's raining once again!
He looked at the glass window, hearing a soft tapping noise. He was not sure what he was expecting, but he was surprised to see the source of the noise. "Whoa! It's raining!" he stood up and walked towards the window and leaned against the glass panes. He looked out, the sky was suddenly covered with smoky clouds and raindrops were falling endlessly, from nowhere, vanishing into nothing. It amazed him. He never managed to follow a single drop, it always disappeared somewhere. But yet, when he looked at them all, it seemed that every drop was falling on the rooftops, on the glass panes, on the passers-by, where not! Everyone and everything seemed to be affected by rain. Why, even such a workaholic man like him was unable to ignore the attraction. He's to stop work and admire it, even for a moment. He opened the window and immediately a rush of wind hit his face, wetting his face slightly and tousling his hair. He was lost in an unknown dreamland for sometime, trying to see something in the far horizon. The constant buzzing in his pocket made him conscious again. He took out his phone and took the call, "Khushi?"
"How do you know it's me?" Khushi asked in a mock surprised tone.
"My heart told me that it was you." he replied, grinning to himself.
"Never knew 'technology' and 'heart' are synonyms." Khushi said and laughed. He listened, mesmerized. For a moment, all thoughts regarding rain or the nature escaped from his mind. All he could feel was the laughter that he loved to hear in her voice, the laughter that'll bring him bright sunshine and happy rain at the same time, at any moment. And when she stopped it pierced his heart. A soft velvet like silence enveloped them. Khushi broke it, "Arnav...say something?"
"Say what?" he asked softly, not knowing what to say.
"It's raining." Khushi stated.
"I know." was his short reply.
"So, you're watching the rain, nah? What about work?"
"I wasn't watching the rain." Arnav replied, "I was feeling you."
'Oh?'
"Yes, I was. You know, when the rain falls, it creates a pattern and it's said that everyone sees a different pattern. Whenever I look at the rain's patterns, I see your face, smiling brightly to me. And everytime i hear the rhythms of it, I feel as if I'm listening to your laughter, mixed with the familiar tinkle that's caused by your anklets and when I take breath, I swear, I can smell your heavenly fragrance."
"Liar!" said Khushi in a pleased tone. "You can make up such things Arnav. Anyway it's good to see that office work hasn't killed your romantic side, Mr Raizada."
"Of all the people, you should not have any doubt about my romantic side, Mrs Raizada." he teased back. She only giggled in reply and once again there was silence. This time Arnav broke it, "Khushi, go inside, you'll catch a cold."
Khushi who was standing in the balcony, leaning out as much as possible, jerked back. "I'm inside, perfectly safe, drinking a mug of hot tea." she lied.
"Liar!" Arnav chuckled. "I know you are in the balcony, getting wet."
"How do you know?" she said teasingly, "Seeing patterns of me again?"
he laughed, "NO stupid, I can hear the constant raining in background. Now go in and dry yourself."
"I'll...one condition..." she said.
"What's that?" he asked trying to guess.
"Come home early." she whispered. "I miss you."
he kept quiet for sometime and then smiled, "I will...but what do I get in return?"
At this she giggled and cut the line. She hurried inside to dry herself and wear something more presentable. She hugged the light pink saree to herself and twirled around. "I love you." she muttered happily.
In his office, Arnav impatiently stacked files after file, hurrying to wrap up the work so that he could be with his wife, as early as possible. "Damn it!" he muttered, "I love her!"
