Long back when I went to college I had what some would call an embarrassing moment. I was majoring in English Literature and had till then never been exposed to French language. Consequently I did not know that the word "Entrepreneur" is pronounced "Onthroprenur" When one of the prof used the word, I was so blank that he thought it prudent to spell it out for me. As soon as he began to spell it I knew the word. Now I knew the word, its meaning and spelling, I just didn't know how to pronounce it correctly. A few people mocked me for my ignorance and my only reply was "I didn't know it was important to learn French, if you wanted to study English literature"

Before we turn into culture snobs, we might want to consider a few factors such as environment and exposure, as well as prevalent popular usage.

Anandi might know English but she might not be able to speak fluently or with the right accent. I have seen many people from non-city background have this problem. But with practise they overcome it. Anyway I also feel Jagya simply wanted to demean her for everything at one point.
