The Wicked Mr.Whickham

Somedays back we had some articles listing this show as being loosely based on Austen's Pride and Prejudice. And we do see certain parallel in the way characters have been built. Arnav's prejudice about Khushi yet his slowly mellowing attitude. Khushi total distrust and annoyance for Arnav. Akash instant attraction for beautiful Jane Payal. Payal's easy smile and kind nature.

Bua's match making to get good husbands for both her nieces and Khushi's father Shashi's ever practical self which doesn't let him from being blinded by kindness of strangers like Shyam.

Nani's resolve to control her grand children's life. And the ever sophisticated yet dense Miss.La.

The another pivotal person who had at times kept lizzy-darcy apart and yet had unwittingly played a major role in bringing them back together had been Captain of Militia, Mr. Whickham.

Whickham had been valiant and smooth to Lizzy to the extent that she had believed herself to be almost smitten by him. Her dislike for Darcy had found base and then strengthened by what Whickham had told her about Darcy stealing his inheritance. But with time she had realized his faults and duplicity which had led her to be more understanding and soft towards proud Mr.Darcy.
The fact that Mr.Whickham had seduced and eloped with Miss Darcy had not endeared him either. His major fall out had been seducing Lydia, Lizzy's fickle minded sister.

So far there has been nothing shown of Khushi's feelings for shyam other than that she sees him as respectable and good friend. But Shyam's interest in Khushi has been highlighted by those flashbacks of Shyam.

But what i would love is when Arnav sees her with someone else...even if its shyam or his shilhoute...the sheer jealousy...Afterall Mr Darcy did accept that he was insanely jealous to see lizzy with anyone else.

So Wicked Mr.Whickham...U are welcome!

We can compare Shyam to Wickham but Anjali cannot be compared to Elizabeth's sister and his wife... Anjali is an angel who got married to a devil... Wickham and Shyam seem like bros to me who got lost plotting, forgot their sense of direction... and one ended up in the west while the other terrorized the East specially IPKKND!!

I am in no way comapring Anjali to fickle Lydia...I am comparing her with gentle-bred Miss.Darcy who had been instant friend of Lizzy and had noticed her brother partiality towards Lizzy. She was a sweet person whom Darcy had doted upon..Why would i compare her with Lydia while in show she is palying Arnav's sister. The marriage between Shyam and Anjali is the little ddeviation they have used to make it probably different from the book completely..just like Mrs.Bennet's matchmaking quality is portrayed in Bua rather than Khushi's mom. and Khushi has only one sister and not a passel of 4 other sisters.

Remember writing a post on the same topic some time back. The similarities between P&P and IPKKND are there. In P& P, after the first confession, Lizzy never had doubts about who was the right person, Mr Darcy or Wickham. After some initial resentment on her side, she started believing only Mr. Darcy and his version of the story. Hope Khushi also does the same with regard to Arnav. The poor man has been starved for true love and affection to such an extent that he doe not believe in their existence.

nice post & we'v been comparin dis to P&P ever since it ws aired but still i enjoy da comparisons & analysis with regard to dis beautiful novel

thats the first thing that popped in to my mind when i started watching the show (this and that it had very strong similarities to ugly betty)!!! and honestly thats one of the things that attracted me to the show and has me hooked... i love pride and prejudice its one of my favorite books and darcy was the first man i fell in love with (i know he's fictitious but i was 11!!!)

As long as the TRPs keep coming the days will definately be one week long😛

agreed yaar...even i read that book again last week and while reading it i realised that it is very very similar to ipkknd...i agree that Mr Wickham was the one responsible for keeping lizzie and Darcy apart but at the end him and ALSO jane and mr bingly were the key factors to bring them together...
