I know many would say that a singer has to be versatile - but personally for me and again that's just me...I'd rather a singer be great at one genre who can touch the core of one's soul then a singer who is versatile and does not connect with the audience.
I would never expect Kailash Kher to sing soft songs that Sonu sings - I am in love with Kailash's voice, and he is master at his genre.
Now a days, in bollywood - one singer is not assigned to a particular actor. In the past, Amitabh's songs were sung by Kishore Da, to the point now when I hear any of Kishore Da songs, even if the song was pictured on Rajesh Khanna, I feel it's Amitabh's song.
These days in the same movie, different singers will sing for an actor. One of the example is movie "Jab We Met" - Shahid has Sonu singing for him in one song, Shaan in another song and Mika in yet another song.
I would love to hear Azmaat singing his genre songs - it's soothing to the ears.
Anyway - that's just my opinion. 😳
