Chapter Eight
..True Companionship..

Mayank came to his room and threw himself on his bed. "How dare she lies to me! Maine kya socha tha aur kya nikli. Damn i hate her!", he said to himself angrily. He had never felt so angry before as he was feeling right then.

Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes.

The doorbell was ringing since long. "Uff ho! Kitni bar bell bajaa raha hai. Aa rahi hoon naa. Sabar rakkho.", Shilpa Sharma, Mayank's mom said while adjusting her dupatta. She opened the door and there stormed in her son with an angry expression on his face. Shilpa shook her head and said, "Hey bhagwaan! Yeh ladka bhi naa.. zarur phir se kisi se jhagda karke aaya hai. Gussa toh iss ke naakh pe hota hai."

Mayank sat on the couch and glared at a direction blankly. Shilpa sat beside him and putting her hand on his shoulder, she said teasingly, "Yeh gussa tere naakh pe kyun hota hai? Anyways bataa aaj kis ke saath jhagda kiya hai?"

Mayank didn't respond. Shilpa tapped on his shoulder and said, "Oye main tujhse baat kar rahi hoon. Tu sun bhi raha hai ya nahi?" Mayank turned his face towards his mother and said in a serious tone, "Maa, aap agar kisi par aakhein bandh kar ke trust karo, phir woh aap se jhoot bole toh aap ko kaisa lagega?"

Shilpa said, "Obviously gussa aayega. Par tujhse jhoot kisne bola aur kyun?" Mayank punched his hand on the couch and said, "Maa, yeh Samrat jhoot kaise bol sakta hai? I mean, woh mera best friend hai aur mujhe yeh expect nahi thi ki woh mujhse jhoot bolega."

"Dekh Mayu, insaan jhoot do vajah ke liye bolta hai, peheli yeh ki shayad uski koi mazburi ho aur dusri ki shayad uske maan mein koi khot ho. Aab yeh toh tujhe sochna padhega ki woh insaan tujhse jhoot kis vajah se kahega. Tujhe agar uss insaan pe bharosa hai toh phir pehela reason ho sakta hai, and, in case of Samrat, as far i know him, i think that the first reason goes with him.", Shilpa said with a slight smile. Mayank listened to his mother carefully and said smilingly, "Thank you maa! Aap ne meri problem chutkio mein solve kardi." Saying that, Mayank hugged his mother who hugged him back.

Mayank opened his eyes in shock and said to himself worriedly, "Shayad Nupur ki bhi koi mazburi ho. Jitna maine usse jaana hai, woh jhoot bolne waalo mein se nahi hai." He stood up in jerk and went outside his room.

"Nupur! Nupur!", Mayank called out Nupur in the whole bungalow. "Kaka!", Mayank called a servant and asked him, "Kaka, aap ne Nupur ko dekha kahi?" "Mayank saab, Nupur madam toh aakhri bar shayad aap se baat kar rahi thi uske baad maine unhe nahi dekha.", the servant informed him. "Kya?", Mayank exclaimed in shock. "Aap tension mat lo saab, main dhundhta hoon.", the servant said. Mayank nodded.

Mayank and the servant searched for Nupur everywhere inside the bungalow and in the backyard as well but she wasn't there. "Saab, Nupur madam ghar mein aur backyard mein nahi hai.", the servant informed Mayank who passed his hand in between his silky hairs, said tensely, "Kahi woh chali toh nahi gayi?", and went outside.

Rains were falling heavily outside. Mayank was driving slowly on the streets looking around searching for Nupur. But he couldn't see anything due to the heavy rains. So he parked his car at a side of the road, locked it and started walking on the streets.

Mayank asked each and every person on the street about Nupur showing them her picture. But every time he got a negative response. Sighing, he stood in the middle of the road helplessly. "Kaha ho tum Nupur? Please come back!", Mayank said, closed his eyes and let his tears shed.

Guilt, helplessness and pain - these were the emotions Mayank felt at that time. Somewhere in a corner of his heart, he feared of loosing someone dearer. Was Nupur so dear to him? He thought confusedly but the next thought that came in his mind was to search Nupur anyhow. Years back, God did unfair to him by snatching his mother. After that incident, somehow Mayank consoled himself. But this time, he didn't afford to loose Nupur, the girl he thought of his only and true companion.

Mayank was drenched fully in the rain but he didn't stop searching. "Kahi disco mein toh nahi hai?!", he said to himself worriedly. Immediately he called someone and asked, "Shyaam, 3 din pehele jo ladki ne disco mein special performance kia tha, Nupur, kya woh abhi waha disco mein hai?" "Nahi sir! Woh toh uss din ke baad nahi aayi.", Shyaam, who was the waiter of that disco, replied.

Mayank disconnected the call and thought in mind, "I think ke mujhe missing complaint karna chahiye." Saying that, he went back to his car and drove to the police station.

On the way, Mayank stopped his car as he saw someone familiar sitting on the bench beside the street and shivering due to the chilly rainfall. He stopped his car and coming out of his car, he realized that the familiar figure was Nupur. She was hugging her knees and crying silently. Mayank ran to her and stood in front of her.

"Nupur, please ghar chalo.", Mayank pleaded. Nupur raised her eyes and shocked to see Mayank there. "Aap?", she exclaimed in shock. "Haan main! Please lets go home.", Mayank said softly. Nupur stared at a different direction and said in between her sobs, "Mayank please mujhe mere haal par chod dijiye. Mujhe mere kiye ki sazaa milni chahiye. Aap jaaiye yaha se."

Mayank sat close to Nupur and keeping his hand on hers, he said lowering his eyes, "I am sorry Nupur. Maine tumhare point of view se sochne ki koshish nahi kiya. Main yeh samajh nahi paya ki tumhari koi mazburi ho sakti hai. I'm sorry aur please chalo. Tumhari tabiyat kharab ho rahi hai."

Nupur turned her face around and staring Mayank with teary eyes, she said, "Aap bohot acche hai Mayank. Par.." Mayank covered her mouth and said looking deeply in her eyes, "Par var kuch nahi. Chalo yaha se." Nupur nodded. They stood up.

Suddenly Nupur lost her balance due to weakness. She fell in Mayank's arms. They shared a beautiful eye-lock. Mayank felt lost in those pair of painful eyes. Nupur saw something different in Mayank's eyes this time. But she didn't understand what it was.

Their eye-lock broke after a while. They stood straight and felt uneasy. But Mayank, hiding his discomfort, smiled and holding Nupur by her arms, he said gently looking at her, "Chalo." Nupur slightly smiled back at him and they went home.

Mayank and Nupur reached home. Mayank helped Nupur in going to her room. He took out a set of salwar suit for Nupur from her cupboard, gave it to her and said, "Tum jaldi se change karlo, warna tumhe sardi ho jayegi." Nupur nodded and went to the washroom. Mayank too went to his room to change.

After a quarter minute, Mayank came to Nupur's room and saw her sitting on her bed and thinking something. He sat beside her and asked smilingly, "Kis soch mein ho?"

Nupur stared Mayank with guilt in her eyes. "Maine jo bhi kia uss ke liye I'm sorry.", she said in a soft voice lowering her eyes. A slight smile curved on Mayank's face. He titled Nupur's chin and said looking at her eyes, "Tumhe apni galti ki ehsaas hai, yehi mere liye bohot hai, and please yeh udaasi hataao apne chehre se aur thoda smile do." Nupur smiled hearing what Mayank said.

"Aab tum acchi lag rahi ho.", Mayank said seeing the smile on Nupur's angelic face. "Waise mujhe tumse kuch kehena tha, ek aisi baat jo peheli bar main kisi ko kehe raha hoon.", he said nervously. "Haan boliye!", Nupur said with a curious look. Mayank extended his hand and said softly, "Mujhse dosti karogi?"

At first Nupur stared at Mayank in disbelief. "How could he offer friendship to a girl like me?", Nupur thought in mind. "Aise kya dekh rahi ho?", Mayank asked with a smile. "Mujh jaise ladki se aap friendship kyun karna chahte hai?", Nupur asked in disbelief.

"Kyuki mujhe yeh lagta hai ki tum mere liye bohot acchi friend sabith hogi.", saying that, Mayank hugely smiled. A smile curved on Nupur's face hearing what Mayank had said. "Mera haath dard kar raha hai yaar, kuch answer toh do.", Mayank said and made a sad puppy face. Nupur laughed seeing that expression of Mayank and putting her hand on his, she said smilingly, "Haan! Karungi."

This brought an ocean-sized smile on Mayank's face and entwining his fingers with Nupur's, he said intently looking at Nupur's eyes, "I promise ki main tumhare chehre se yeh khushi jaane nahi dunga." Nupur touched Mayank's cheek and said with a soft smile, "I know that every well, and thank you so much for this support, for offering your precious friendship. I am very lucky." Before Mayank could reply her back, Nupur pulled Mayank in a tight, friendly hug which made Mayank astonished at first but eventually he hugged her back.

Since that day, Mayank took a great care of Nupur. He had given her food and medicine on time which improved Nupur's health a lot. Their friendship grew strong as the days had passed by and they felt truly happy and contented in each other's company.

A month had passed in this way. Mayank's true companionship had helped Nupur to a great extent in coming out of her past and avoiding her addiction.

Satisfied with himself, Mayank thought in mind, "Finally main jo chahta tha, maine woh karke dikhaya. Nupur kaafi theek ho gayi hai. Thank you Ganesh ji and my sweet dear mumma for supporting me and giving him strength.", he said the last sentence raising his eyes and smiling hugely. Just then, he got a text message in his cell phone. Opening it, he read - "Mayank, Samrat here! Finally woh important case khatam ho gaya jis ki vajah se main ek mahine pehele India nahi aa paya. Anyways, meri flight 1 hour mein hai. Main aa raha hoon aur Gunjan bhi saath hai. Network nahi lag raha tha iss liye message kar diya. Airport par receive karne zarur aana. ;)"

Mayank smiled reading the message. He sighed and said to himself, "Finally yeh aa raha hai." Suddenly something struck his mind and he thought with a concerned look, "Nupur ki medicine ka time ho raha hai.", Mayank said looking at the clock and he immediately rushed to Nupur's room taking the medicine bottle and a glass of water.

"Mayank please mujhe yeh dawai nahi khana. Yeh bohot karvi hai.", Nupur, sitting on her bed, said to Mayank and made faces. Mayank sat in front of her and said in an ordering tone, "Nupur, phir se baccho ki tarah jid karna bandh karo aur yeh dawai khalo." Looking at the medicine, Nupur made irritated childish faces. Mayank giggled seeing that.

"Nupur, aakhein bandh karo.", Mayank said and smirked. Nupur observed Mayank's mischievous face. She knew that he was thinking some mischief. A whole month had passed and now Nupur knew Mayank quite well. "Mayank, phir se koi prank nahi please!", Nupur pleaded.

"Nupur, aakhein bandh karo na please.", Mayank said and pouted. Nupur shook her head, laughed and closed her eyes. Mayank took out a red small box from his pocket and told Nupur to open her eyes. Nupur opened her eyes and saw a pair of diamond earrings in front of her eyes. Her jaw dropped.

"Medicine ke liye aap mujhe diamond ki bribe de rahe hai?", Nupur asked in shock. Mayank laughed and said, "Haan de raha hoon! Chup chap yeh dawai khaalo agar yeh earrings chahiye. Warna yeh nahi milegi.", saying that, he teasingly smiled.

Nupur glared at Mayank and said, "Aap bohot bure hai." Mayank pulled Nupur's cheeks and proudly smiling, he said, "Main janta hoon Nupur!"

Nupur closed her eyes. She put the medicine inside her mouth and quickly swallowed it after drinking a glass of water. Opening her eyes, she asked with an innocent smile, "Aab de dijiye mere woh diamond earrings please." Mayank laughed at Nupur's cute innocence and gave the diamond earrings to Nupur.

"Wow! Thank you Mayank!", Nupur said excitedly, kissed Mayank on his cheek and hugged him tightly. Feeling Nupur's touch on his cheek, Mayank felt his heart pounding and his tummy full of butterflies. He felt something at her sweet gesture which was yet unknown to him. He broadly smiled and hugged Nupur back.

After they broke the hug, Mayank told Nupur softly, "Abhi tum so jaao. Bohot raat ho gayi hai." Nupur nodded, laid on her bed and asked, "Aap nahi soyenge, Mayank?"

Mayank placed his hand on Nupur's forehead and said lovingly, "Tum so jaao, uske baad main so jayunga." Saying that, he passed his hand over Nupur's eyes closing them. Then he placed a soft kiss on Nupur's forehead and stared her with a cute grin curved on his face. "How innocently she is sleeping! She's such a cutie pie!", Mayank thought in his mind and gazed the angel of his life, Nupur!

Kis taraf hai aasmaan, kis taraf zaameen khabar nahi khabar nahi,
Jab se aaya hai sanam, mujhko khud ki bhi khabar nahi khabar nahi,
Hosh gul, sapno ki mein bandhu pul,
Aakh kab khuli khabar nahi khabar nahi..

Hellooo everyone 🤗 ..

Hope everyone liked the chapter .. 😃 It was long but there's a reason behind it .. Well, bad news people .. I won't be able to update next week! 😒 I'll have to undergo a surgery on 9th, and after that, I'll be on bed rest for a week .. 😲 Actually everything depends on my health .. If it gets improved early then I'll update .. Probably, I'll be missing updating more than you guys will miss reading my updates .. 😆
