Well...in some ways it does hold one or two similarities: for instance the kangan scene was inspired by the song Baire Piya, and the certain plot elements like them being friends in childhood, falling for each other in childhood, Taani's long wait for Onu, Taani marrying an older man (almost!), them being Bengali and all that...but these are really superficial. It would be like saying TL was a copy of Tere Naam because of the madness element and him being in the asylum despite not being mad.
The essential difference between the two would be that while Devdas (if we go by the SLB movie version) committed to her and then left her high and dry when his family humiliated hers, and then came back when he realised he was in love with Paro, Onu bursts out that he doesn't love her in public, honestly believes it, and tries hard instead to help her find another man for herself. Paro to prove a point to Devdas marries the older man, but Taani rebuffs all attempts to do so and then attempts marrying Riteish later only because she believes Onu will be saved. In Devdas their relationship in childhood had no legal sanction, in TL it did.Onu in fact, is more proactive in his relationship with Taani than Devdas ever was. And Taani never let her ego get the better of her, like Paro did. In fact it was KZK that had more of those Devdas elements.
