I kind of think a little differently on the hot issue of Jai's past!
My view is that the whole thing has got to do with Jai's inability to become a biological Father! My reasons for the same are:
Jai not being involved with any woman after Roshni and he seperated ways and that was supposedly years back. Why would a man like Jai Walia, the epitome of an ideal man ever stay away from women without any strong reason?
Jai is someone who is extremely sensitive and touchy about himself, also someone who is very, very insecure! Once again, what is the reason, that someone of the stature of Jai Walia should be insecure regarding anything in his life, especially regarding Love and Relationships? Obviously, he holds a deep prejudice against himself in his heart that is making him unable to be in control of his relationships and hence, he avoids them at all cost!
Jai's fondness for children and his generous nature regarding helping Parentless children. Ever wondered why Jai was so attached to Pushkar and even though they don't share a huge gap, Pushkar was always looked upon as a son by Jai...a son that Jai could never have himself!
Jai's proposal to Pia. I always thought that it was so strange the way Jai proposed to Pia, as if he is keeping a business proposal in front of her rather than telling the woman of his dreams that he loves her and wants to marry her. Jai tells her that he can "buy" her all the happiness of the World that his "Wealth" and "Influence" can buy. Also, I found it very strange that despite knowing fully well how materialistic and money-minded Pia was, a man like Jai, who belives in Love and Human Emotions ever proposed to Pia. I think that Jai guessed Pia's priorities in life are not a family and children like any normal woman would want, but wealth and power...which he would be able to give her!
The whole emotional volcano that erupted when Pia ran out on him and Jigyasa told him that people will question his "Masculinity". Remember how outraged and stunned Jai was and what a tight slap he had given to Jigyasa! The reason why he was so angry and so immensely hurt was not only because Pia broke his heart but also because she made him remember his one "weakness" that he cannot rectify. The insuiation on Jai's masculinity by Jigyasa really erupted the buried insecurity and anguish in Jai's heart!
Why is Jai so afraid of Bani coming to know of his Past? Well, it can be because as most of you have suggested, because of her Mother being a victim of Jai and Roshni's Car accident...but if that was the case, then Jai being the man he is, would have never made Bani suffer the way she has suffered....the guilt of killing her Mother would have made Jai instantly forgive Pia and Bani for whatever mistakes they would have done...because all said and done, even Jai would realize that killing a person and hiding the truth is far, far worse than someone running out on you on your Wedding Day!
Jai has fallen in love with Bani and he knows Bani only too well to understand that a girl like her has dreams of having a normal family and children and that he would not be able to give...and hence to save Bani from any further heart-ache, he told her to go and live her life.....you can only let go of a person from your life when you truly love that person and wants to see his/ her happiness...in this case, Jai percieves that his inability to give a child to Bani might be the cause of her unhappiness and hence wants to set her free.
Roshni's remarks and expression's suggested that the Accident had to do with their breaking up also. Roshni remarks to Jai that the accident changed everything and they could not even marry because of it! Now, why would Jai and Roshni not marry, if they had accidentally killed someone? If they can share the guilt, I cannot see why they cannot go ahead and marry and keep the secret with themselves, where was the need to go seperate ways?
I would love to read your views on the above......
Love,
MT
