So this post is based purely off the GK scene of the day (one and only) Dhol Scene. And just to warn everyone, in case I get any details wrong, I was watching on Star TV Player live, and the fact that it kept getting stuck didn't help - but I saw most of this scene, thankfully, without getting held up in buffering.

So personally, I really liked the way this scene was done - truly, subtlety is the greatest novelty of all!

To me, this was not a transition of Gulaal from the past to present. This was Gulaal - and is Gulaal. I think the past scene choice of Vasant and Gulaal was very interesting on the CVs part for several reasons.

A) It was the initial G-V meeting scene. In a way, the dhol had once magic on Gulaal, when she had not even seen the man himself, and known nothing of him, his 'music' had compelled her to be drawn to the beat... and in a way today - it made her see Kesar in a whole new light. It was like the clouds inside her head had suddenly been rent asunder by a bolt of lightening. She wasn't really seeing who was at the dhol in the present moment, just like she had not scene who it was back in that memory scene. It pretty thoughtful of them to draw scene parallels using a GV scene that was not about GV love or romance! I like the way that paralle comes out, where she is not comparing Kesar with Vasant (as I perceive it) but is simply getting a deja vu sense in a tune! Its like being reminded of a powerful moment in ones past, at the whiff of a long forgotten perfume, or at the sound of a long forgotten melody. So while most of you may have thought of this as a Kesar Vs Vasant moment - to me, it was all about Gulaal. Gulaal then and Gulaal now - and the unchanged parameters in between, despite the outside facade she has carefully constructed of her changed person!

B) Again, the way she snaps out of her trance today was phenomenal. Although for a moment it was like she was scandalized at being mesmerized by 'Kesar' not Vasant - really it was more of her shock at the way she'd been drawn in. The way, like all those years ago, of forgetting where and who and why, and just being caught in a moment and becoming oblivious of her surrounding! (Was it me, or did it seem to anyone else that she was in fact on the brink of having given up and gone out dancing?! LOL!) I personally think, she really was just about to! In fact, maybe that was part of her shock. The extent to which she had been driven into the moment... the fact that the magic still existed and worked for her like that... the fact that inside of her was still that person capable of undergoing the exact precise emotions of 'attraction - whatever kind' as had been possible a decade ago. In a huge way, this was a startling revelation to her, not of a coming change, but of the fact that she had innately never changed! And I think more than the shock of it being Kesar at the dhol and not Vasant was her comprehension, that it hadn't mattered who was at the dhol... the moment had been identical to her!

C) Finally, the way she smiles at Kesar - after getting over her awkward cum conscious moment and looking about herself to ensure her trance went unnoticed - is not just an acceptance of crediting Kesar to re-build that magic, but an acceptance of her old person not being lost, but only too deeply buried. In fact, in an ironic and divine way - Gulaal's acceptance of Kesar, and her acceptance of the person she truly is (which is a far cry from what she has tried to become in a decade) is starkly synonymous. To accept one, she must accept the other, and vice verse!

Finally hats off to the CVs for giving us such a powerful scene. Despite not being an obvious GK scene, I thought the underlying thought of this scene was profound, yet subtle to perceive, and novel in that sense. To me GK are classic and unique, because of the way their many layers operate... They have a history which is bridged by Vasant. Interestingly, Vasant has always, only been a bridge. Their story was, and is, and shall remain, all abut them!

And oh - about the PRECAP - to repeat what I said on the EDT I think Gulaal's words have a meaning that applies more than just to Talli. The idea of being khush and moving on so soon applies to Kesar most of all, and applies to her - at least more than it will ever apply to Talli - although I wonder when she will begin to realize that!

Do chip in your interpretation of the scene?!

xx
JZee

ps: @Dushyant - Dude! My heart goes out to him now. Thank God there wont be Dulli. He doesn't deserve every single woman of her own mind that exists in his life! I hope he wont give in JK's kasam - although, it does seem likely...

Hey - i agree with you and you've explained it much better in simple words 😊
Just like you even i saw this scene as this is Gulaal's moment, her feelings, her emotions - Gulaal's feelings arising, some sort of transition happening, i did not see comparions in Vasant to Kesar, but feeling that something of the same for both in a way
This scene was powerful and more so due to how it was perceived and also Manasi's incredible acting
I will put what i said in EDT
It was obvious she would think of Vasant when seeing a dhol being played but this scene as i said expressed alot due to Manasi's acting
But Vasant was in black and white flashbacks (which is the first time he has been in B/W), whilst Kesar in colour, the way that scene was done.. it felt like an transition in Gulaal's feelings moving on and maybe what she felt in that moment, seeing Kesar and how conscious she got
It kinda felt like more feelings arising towards Kesar then Vasant in this scene, its like something inside her awoke i guess, for me i love Gulaal in how she still to this day loves Vasant and still gets teary-eyed in thinking of him, thats love but today i saw more her pulling towards Kesar, there was something there 'something she felt'
Lets not forget the Piyu Maari that played over it, which again added to the scene, in Gulaal's emotions and her expressions and what she saw
One of the best scenes i found - the whole substance to it, and Manasi as always - brilliant 👏, i am gonna miss this woman and this character Gulaal 😔

Exactly Reemz, and "I was like no Gulaal, no, plz...not now" 😆

Hahaha! i was more like gooo! 😆 I wish she'd go back to that phase where she would just follow her heart without thinking of the attention she's grabbing in the process - that's real Gulaal!

ps: I'm JZee, not Reemz 😆

Personally Lennie - I really think the scene was not about transition but about being a constant in time. It wasn't about moving from Vasant to Kesar as much as it was about Gulaal still being the woman who could 'feel the magic of a moment'! In that one moment, everything about the mature-poise-heldback Gulaal came crashing down, and she was just the free spirit girl who forgot about everything in a moment of trance! It was only her consequent consciousness that was more about realizing that she was living 'Vasant's moment through 'Kesar' - but even then, she couldn't but smile... and accept it like that. In that acceptance, she took one big leap forward.

Fab post as always Jz...and I will also put what I had been talking to Lennie in the EDT
Yes there have been so many times she got the fbs of Vasant but not in this manner..and as I said she did not see Vasant in kesar..she saw a husband in Kesar...the only thing is she associates 'husband' with Vasant and that is toh obvious na...fab way of putting it na...2 min and a brilliant actress and good CVs make a scene almost change the whole equation and bring it to a different level altogether...

there are some legendary love stories in the Talsagra house...only this kind of woman...a woman with this unwaivering devotion gets the love of a man like Kesar who is totally devoted to her...seems like God's way of giving back to her what she has given to a dead man...her heart life and soul...but yes...her heart opened...it flowered...not fully ...but may be a few petals opening...

that consciousness gave the whole flashback a new meaning ...generally she gets conscoius of her tears but this time she was conscious because of the feelings she had while seeing Kesar...

Jzee - thanks
I also meant transition in herself in moving on, as in taking an step forward - from there to now and in present, and like you say acceptance, and making it feel something more was there, something Gulaal felt as well

Even I didnot see comparision but transition...excellent choice of words Lennie and you are churoing my mind 😆...It is paving the way for that eternal bond...Kesar is making his own space in her heart and not as a shadow of Vasant...😳
