Moviebuzz

Hari directed Venghai, is a commercial entertainer with all essential ingredients like action, romance, comedy, sentiments, and violence.

It is old wine in a new tetra pack with hardly any story or twists but it is the furious speed at which the movie moves and the characterisation of Dhanush, Prakash Raj and Raj Kiran which makes it work to a large extent.

Hari follows the old 70-80€™s formula film pattern where all the characters are either black or white. The milieu, clichd characters and a larger-than-life hero who says that €œmy family is a temple and my parents are the Gods€ will reassure the dying joint family system and values.

The good guys- Veera Pandi (Raj Kiran) is the landlord, king maker, and most respected person in Pandiapuram, a hamlet close to Sivaganga. He is a do-gooder and respected by all and feared by his enemies. His son is Selvam (Dhanush) who is also righteous young man for whom his dad is his role model.

The Bad guy- Rajalingam (Prakash Raj), who becomes the local MLA, thanks to the influence of Veera Pandi. But like all greedy and ambitious politicians he revolts against his mentor Pandi. The conflict begins and soon Rajalingam guns for the father and son.

The heroine character Radhika (Tamannnaah) is there only for the sentimental twist, romance and mandatory songs. As usual there is an accessory of characters in the background like Urvasi, Paarvai Muniamma and so many others. This time Hari has roped in Ganja Karuppu who makes crude jokes bordering on double entendre. The film moves at a slow pace in the first half but gains momentum in the latter half.

Venghai €" A Sify Special

Dhanush uses his eyes and body language to express it all- anger, dismay, rage, anguish, affection, gratitude and love. Dhanush the actor and star makes Venghai a gripping story of grief and heroism due to his powerful performance. If you thought that you have seen all the nuances of a calibrated performance from Prakash Raj, you are wrong. There is still a lot more of Prakash Mania to be seen and savoured in Venghai, especially his cat and mouse game with Dhanush in the second half.

Tamannaah is turning out to be a perfect eye candy in a mass masala films but surprisingly she has ample scope and a reason to bring in the twist to the story. She has done her role with conviction. Raj Kiran is dignified. Songs by Devi Sri Prasad are just about ok. Among them Kaalankaathale... and Yenna Solla Pore.. are hummable while the kuthu number Pudikale Pudikuthu... stands out. The picturisation gives you a sense of dj vu, as it very similar to the director€™s earlier films

If you€™re looking for a relaxed time at the movies, then this time pass entertainer will satisfy you.

Verdict: Paisa Vasool

It was okayish movie, typical a Hari movie:) Songs are good and story is very predictable from the minute they introduce Prakashs role. I wish they had more of villainiouscomedy scenes with Prakash and Danush instead of Ganja Karuppus comedy...that cycle thingy was so gross😳🤢

So do you guys suggest i watch this movie with family and friends?? We generally like comical movies, but Hari, who is known for action based films, tends to have lots of fights... so i wonder if this falls in same category..
i personally enjoyed Singam because of Surya *blush* and anushkha =)
