"I don't want to stay back in the show just for the sake of it"
Manini De tells Dhaval Roy she's contemplating leaving Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi
Firstly, the word around is that you are quitting Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi. Is it true?
No, I haven't officially decided to leave Jassi yet. But, yes, I am contemplating leaving the show. A lot of people have been asking me if I have quit the show, but it's not true. Right now because of the way the script is going, I have very little to do in Jassi. I need to move on as an actor, and if I stay back in Jassi just for the sake of it, it would be the defeat of me as an actor.
Haven't you had a word with your producers Deeya and Tony Singh about your role in Jassi?
I did tell them about my reservation of continuing in Jassi because of not being visible much, but they cannot manipulate the script just to suit my role, can they? So, I don't blame them for not accommodating my role in the serial. I've had an excellent relation with Tony and Deeya, and I'm really grateful to them for giving me such an important role in such a big serial. And, my reason for leaving the show would be purely because of lack of visibility; I have absolutely no problems with Tony and Deeya nor with the channel.
So what's your back up now? What more projects have you got?
I have The Great Indian Comedy Show, which I have been received very well in. There are a lot of other projects. that I have, and all of them are as big as Pari. But right now it's too early to talk about them. Then, I have Krissh, the Rakesh Roshan film which is a sequel of Koi Mil Gaya. I have an important role in the film; I play a journalist, who's Priyanka Chopra's friend. She's somewhat like Pari— meaning she's very spunky and cute. Then I also have two other big films, but I haven't given them a nod yet.
Why are you doing only caricature-like and comical roles on TV, when you are regarded a hottie?
Honestly I don't find myself as hot as people say, maybe because I have more of a masculine outlook. I really don't think I am so very sexy. But well, if people say that then maybe I'm sexy by default. As for playing comic roles, I think true artistry is when an actor can play a character that he is not identified by. So, even though I have an image of a hottie, if I get appreciated in a comic role that I play, it says a lot about me as an artiste.
How is your husband Mihir Mishra bonding with your daughter?
Oh, Deeya Noor and Mihir get along like a house on fire! Mihir is a newer parent, so it's really lovely to see him bonding with our daughter. She has taken to him rather well; I mean, there are times I cannot console her about something and it takes Mihir just five minutes to make her smile! I'm really happy with the way things are in my marital life.
