Naani's behavior and judging--NOT applaudable imo

I know people have been praising Naani and cheering her on for her disapproval Lavanaya, but I disagree. It's not that I like Lavanaya, or that I don't understand a grandmother's desire to have a certain type of bride for her grandson, but Naani's attitude is not something Arnav should take lying down. And he doesn't take it, and will continue to stand his ground against her, that's true.

But there are a few things that Naani is being completely hypocritical about. I've already talked about how bothersome the portrayal of Lavanaya is and touched on some of the problems with Naani's behavior. So I won't repeat all of that.

I'll just point out a few things. Lavanaya doesn't know how to behave and talk to people? This is true. But the same goes for Arnav.

Naani and Naani herself will choose brides for Arnav and Akash (even going as far as to say Akash's own mother doesn't have the right to choose). Naani complains about the non traditional ways of Lavanaya. But at the same time treats her own traditional daughter in law like crap. Going as far as to put her down in her conversation with Arnav. No doubt she's done it before. And no doubt she's done it in front of Akash as well.

Naani complains about Lavanaya's dress? I understand Lavanya should have changed, and she wanted to. But here's what's most hypocritical, and what just occurred to me.

The wealth and money Naani is living on? The wealth gained by AR? Well guess what? Such fashion and dresses are part of what earns AR that money. If Naani wants to complain and say Lavanya doesn't know how to dress, she really shoudn't be living comfortably on the money Arnav has earned by being part of a business which markets such dresses and clothes.

And finally she says that if he goes to meet Lavanaya, Arnav is not her grandson. This obviously is not going to happen, since he will most likely come back with Khushi. But still, all that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Arnav will not be pushed around by Naani. Good for him. In his confrontations with Naani over Lavanya, I'm firmly on Arnav's side. When it comes to Arnav and Lavanya scenes or Arnav/Khushi with Lavanya in the back smirking, I can wish her to get lost. But over Lavanya vs. Naani or Arnav Vs. Naani? Or Maami vs. Naani? I'm firmly against Naani.

I kinda agree with u...

She was ryt abt Lavanya's behaviour...but abt her dressing sense???

Every person has their taste and way of living...u can't judge them just by the clothes they wear!!!!!

I second you. I am not a Lavanya fan at all but i definitely do not agree with Naani's treatment of her. Yes, Lavanya's behaviour with the servant was ill-mannered and she deserved lashing for that. But judging La by her clothes? If you and I wear short skirts or off shoulders , that decides our character and our eligibility for being a good or bad wife and daughter-in-law? Just because La has not lived in an environment where you are taught to pay regard to elders or she has no idea how you are supposed to conduct yourself in a temple, how does that decide her 'humanity' factor? And like you said rightly, before pointing fingers at La, Naaniji needs to tell her Arnav to learn the difference between human-beings and cattle. Look at Arnav right now. Forget his good looks and heat factor and tell me - which girl will like to marry a man who will not think of her as more than a part of furniture , his personal cow and a plaything?

Point being, Lavanya is dumb, she is petty and she is Arnav's toy but Naaniji has no right to judge her just because she comes from a different background and a different upbringing. And before pointing fingers at girls, she should first see if her grandson is fit to be a good husband with his current attitude and psycho-emotional state.

She is an old woman with her set beliefs, she wants a traditional, conservative bahu for her NAVASA!!!...Arnav's attitude at home is a bit different than his work place...he actually cares for these people and makes an effort for them, remember he bought mami that gaudy jewelry. So grandson is alright to her in her eyes!!...

i agree you make some great points...but my question is how would nani feel if the girl arnav loves is tradional in thought but dresses in both tradional and western clothes...and when i state western clothes i mean jeans, tshirts, blouses...do you all think nani would still judge...i mean a person cannot just be judged by just what they wear...

It's not that I am saying to change the character. I understand that's how she would react. And they show the conflict with Arnav and Naani, with Arnav not backing down. So the show is using this as a storlyline with conflict. And it's not exactly unrealistic.

But while watching the show, I'm not rooting for Naani most of the time. She is not a negative character, but many of her actions are negative. Which is fine, show complicated characters, etc.

Great points. Arnav talks to Lavanya horribly. She takes it, that's true. Just the tone of how he talks to her most of the time. I think from the Maha Episode, we have seen that she's not really looking for marriage with Arnav, either. Which is better than her being a blind fool with expectations.

But his family knows how his behavior is outside the family house. It doesn't matter if he has an excuse because of his past, the fact is, his behavior is not proper either.

Speaking of Lavanya and the temple. How many times does Arnav try to escape the pooja at his house? Did he also not refuse the kurta given to him? Doesn't he ignore the requests to light the diya at his office?

Guys guys guys..

No person in the world is perfect.
So is NANI, so is ARNAV, so is LA. And so is Mami.

This is a different thing that all of them are a bit over in their own ways.

But, let it be na! That is what makes the show. Isn't it?

Calm down and enjoy the show!
