Kesar was sad and disheartened especially after what Motaba had told him in the living room. He runs to his room, makes sure the door is closed shut so that no one watches him cry his heart out. Finally Kesar sobbed into his hands by not inviting anyone's attention (by disallowing a loud cry). He was regretting because he believed he has been forcing this relation on Gulaal and also grieving over the fact that he himself finally called off their relation when he very much loved her.
When he heard the knock at his door, he quickly composed himself, wiped away the tears. I loved the way it was done naturally away from the cinematic style of wiping ones tears without wiping the makeup. Even as he opened the door for Gulaal, he does not meet her eye, probably because 1) he still collected himself and 2) he was feeling guilty for his own behavior.
When he apologized with folded hands, I could see that he felt sorry to have hurt her in the process and all that he wished was that she does not remain angry or upset with him, other than that he was willing to take any punishment. Her aloofness is something he can't handle at all.
I don't agree with what Gulaal said. Her response was as if she confirmed that he has been wrong all the while and she was right. Her touch on his hands did surprise him but when she appreciated his move at the panchayat, I felt he was unsure if it were right in the actual sense. He was hurtful seeing her smile over his "right" decision, but then finally he smiled because he saw her happy. All that he spoke to her the previous day was as if he spoke to a deaf soul. He acknowledged her tears that she could breathe in peace. Gulaal's reaction gave me the feeling that he was so long breathing down her neck and spine. When she thanked him, he is again hurt for bringing her to such a level where she was thanking him and it sunk in that she was happy that he finally FREED her.
Not once in this entire scene, I found her saying sorry for her behavior towards him. Not once she said so or may be because she felt that he deserved that PUNISHMENT for the SIN that he had committed of being in love with her.
Kesar's pain by the thought of losing her was evident in the way he paused and choked as he said "Ab …...sabkuch…...khatam hi hone waala hai", can't we be friends." At that point we can see Gulaal hesitating. Her smile faded, he was literally begging her again to be JUST A FRIEND and it was as if she did him a great FAVOR by agreeing and Kesar felt so GRATEFUL for her magnanimity.
KESAR AND POONAMBA
Poonamba was as usual hyper in her behavior. Can't blame her, she is TOO WORRIED about her stubborn daughter. Kesar was so confused and worried seeing her fall at his feet. He assures her that he still loves Gulaal, attempts to calm her down, makes her at ease and then explains to her that his WIFE OR NOT, Gulaal's happiness will be HIS RESPONSIBILITY. The sincerity in his tone and his eyes calms her down ultimately.
The dialogue where he says "Gulaal aur mera rishta pati patni ka rahe na rahe", is way too confusing and at this point I do not want to read between the lines.
KESAR AND GULAAL
Gulaal walked into Kesar's room with both their set of clothes as if it was a common occurrence. It was Kesar who stood in distress over how he had made his dad disappointed. I loved the fact that Kesar did not deny his feelings and voiced it out to her that he is so used to having her as his support at each step. (But Kesar was away for 10 years, so how does that justify? It may be through her letters to him). He admitted it may take longer than three months or never for this habit to change. He was honest in his feelings about Gulaal even when he spoke to her. Gulaal's behavior today startles me that she behaved as if nothing happened at all. Whenever Kesar reminds her about the three months period, her expression changes.
Today she insisted that though she too had disappointed Motaba, it is Kesar who should meet him first to talk it over. It gives me the feeling that she still holds him and only him responsible for the entire "Deyarvatu, todo, jodo, todo" episode and she was never partner in crime.
KESAR,GULAAL AND MOTABA
The way Kesar and Gulaal sat in front of Motaba reminded me of two students carrying out a Kneel Down punishment from their headmaster. But Motaba's dialogue rendition reminded me that he was more sulking than angry that they did not consult him over the matter.
Motaba's words left Kesar guiltier than before. Now he was helpless because it is because of his blessed wife that he had to take that step unwillingly. But why did not Motaba understand that Kesar having declared he loved Gulaal has gone ahead to dissolve this marriage. And he should know Gulaal too well by now and why did he hold Kesar responsible?. The youngest child at home is pampered. Here it is the reverse situation when he gets blamed. I think Kesar is on a "PLEASE FORGIVE ME mode with everyone. Next I hope I don't find him saying sorry to the cows in his cowshed. Kesar finds a silly reason to defend both him and Gulaal saying Motaba was unwell and hence did not find it fit to discuss. Before I could hear the actor speak out, I had guessed the dialogue "I was not dead, just ill". Kesar was too taken aback by those words and Gulaal reacted a tad later in lag. To be honest I laughed when Motaba said " When Gulaal decided on deeyarvatu with you, I was ill, now when you have decide to dissolve it I am ill". That shut both of them up for a moment. Poor Kesar was pained to see his dad feeling that he is not respected by both of them.
Both of them got a royal dressing-down from Motaba, especially what I liked was Motaba reminding Gulaal in front of Kesar that he had alerted her about the consequences and that their impulsive action would lead to situations when it is too late for repenting. Kesar seemed confused and worried, maybe he was thinking about his decision at the panchayat.
KESAR GULAAL IN THE KITCHEN
I would have loved to see what their previous night's arrangement for sleeping was. Not because I am interested in it but it would have given an insight into the level of their understanding and level of their comfort and tolerance to each other towards their start of three month reconciliation period that they have agreed to complete by staying in the "FRIENDSHIP ZONE"
Anyways, Kesar seemed to enjoy the period when Gulaal is no more angry or upset with him. There is truce between them and Kesar and Gulaal decide to work it out to convince Motaba. Gulaal seemed to have taken over the strings all over again. She again asks him if he trusts her and he does nod in approval hoping they would. Or maybe I felt that his nodding in approval was because of his confidence in her abilities to make people come around (He was a living fossilized example)
His reaction to her handing over a glass of milk was superb. I hated the fact that Gulaal has gone back to her ways starting from DECIDING that he should have milk and not Chai. But my interpretation is that he did not give in to her decision and he decided to make his own cup of Chai. When she mocked him and left him to fend for himself (in making chai); I could see the striking similarity in her ways of dealing with situations. If he does not listen to her and avoids milk, he has to make his own Chai. If he does not listen to her decision about the Deeyarvatu, he has to fend for himself right from "patti" to food. She won't do it for him because HE DEMANDS be it a relationship or Chai.
KESAR AND TALLI
The scene was somewhat interesting. He did attempt to make Chai with one glass of water and three spoonfuls of tealeaves in the largest available container. When Gulaal leaves him, he slowly looks at Talli , conceals his smile and sweetly requests her to make a cup of tea for him. Again as an interpretation I would say he found a way to get a cup of Chai for himself but did not hover around Talli till she would make it and was about to leave. She stopped him from leaving. I don't understand what guarantee she has that she gives Kesar a hope that Gulaal would love him back. He admitted that he never did in expectation of anything in return, but the hope she gave him, shone in his eyes. He pats her head like how an older person does for a younger one. In real life situation such gestures matter and gives us an idea into what sort of relationship two people share. But in television show, anything is possible and it is better to not attempt and convince oneself that this is a relationship they might share based on such gestures. (This is purely based on experience watching my previous favorite show).
