Bobby Deol
Years ago, Sunny Deol alleged that he'd been shortchanged by Yash Chopra, in Darr.

"What was narrated to me and what we saw on screen were two different things," Sunny said at the time. Since then, there has been a complete lack of interaction between the Chopras and the Deols, although the families live in adjacent bungalows in Juhu.

Now, Sunny's brother Bobby Deol has played peacemaker. Not only has he signed Yashraj Films' Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom, to be shot abroad in August, but has also brought to an end the 12-year-long cold war between the families.

Put the past behind

Speaking for the first time on the feud, Bobby laughs, "You can't hold on to misunderstandings forever. I know my brother had a problem with the banner. But that's long forgotten. We've all moved on. Why hold on to the past, when the present is so inviting and vast?"

Making up

Bobby met the Chopras when they invited him for the role. "It was all taken care of within minutes. My dad had worked with Yash uncle in Aadmi Aur Insaan, and we're neighbours. Maybe Jhoom Baraabar was the excuse that both families were waiting for."

The actor says he loves the role that Shaad Ali has offered him. "It gives me a chance to move out of the comfort zone that I created for myself, by working with directors who are family and friends. Not that I've any regrets about working with these people. But I need to move forward. Shaad's film gives me that opportunity."

Bobby is also looking forward to teaming up with Abhishek Bachchan in Jhoom Baraabar.

"He's a cool guy. Our dads worked so well together in Sholay and Chupke Chupke. And Abhishek and I came close to working together in Abbas-Mustan's Humraaz. And he had the best role in Mani Ratnam's Yuva; I think he was terrific in it. I'm looking forward to Jhoom Baraabar."

Bobby is also excited about getting together with Preity Zinta again, after Soldier. "We had a ball shooting that film, and it was a big hit. Preity and I are buddies — I call her Pritam Singh," he winds up.
