A recent circular issued by police commissioner Arup Patnaik is rare and interesting, as it does not contain any instructions, warnings or directives to the police about their work. Instead, it urges the police department to support the Nirmitee team participating in reality TV show X-Factor, running on Sony Entertainment Television. What has evinced the commissioner's interest is that one of the group members, Pranil More, 19, is the son of Anil More, head constable of special branch I.
A proud father, Anil More was present on the sets of X-Factor with his wife Sindhu and their family on Friday during the shoot for the episode to be aired the same night. Their joy knew no bounds as they saw Pranil perform on a huge national platform.
"Everything looked like a dream to us. We have invested all our lives and money in helping our children live their dreams. And this show is like a dream come true. The kind of response my son and his team got is unprecedented," said a beaming More.
The entire police colony in Worli has also thrown its weight behind the More household. The locality is abuzz with talk about film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's visit to the Sai Baba temple in the neighbourhood on Wednesday to offer prayers for the Nirmitee team's victory. "The team may have slipped to the bottom two in spite of its calibre, but we do not want to leave any stones unturned to ensure it emerges victorious," said More.
More has set an example for his fraternity with the way he has helped his son shape his life. "We are proud to have a member like More, who has shattered the stereotype of a policeman, in our team. I will be happy to do all it takes to encourage his children," said additional commissioner of special branch Sunil Paraskar.
