PART FOUR
On The Way
Geet was ecstatic.

Maan was confused seeing her so excited. He thought she would be throwing a lot of tantrums with the whole India trip. But she seemed to be very glad. He knew she was Indian, but had never visited the country. Her father was Indian. That is all he knew. This thought made him realize how less he knew about his bride and her life altogether. And they were married. He sighed.

Geet boarded the flight all delighted that she was finally visiting "home". The thought itself filled her eyes with unshed tears. Tears of happiness. To people she came out as a strong person, but she knew, she wasn't very strong. She couldn't handle stress. She was very sensitive. One big reason, which led her to that rehab five years ago. She was only fifteen then.

All the while Maan tried to understand her movements. She was happy, Maan could say. Ever since he told her about their trip to India, she had remained silent at first, but then suddenly rose up from her sunken state in the limo and started bombarding him with all types of questions. From which airlines they were taking, to the state or city they would be going, to the food the Indians most likely preferred and she also enquired about hot Indian men. She had obviously forgotten the fact that they were married, and she was actually asking about other men to her husband of 3 hours.

"Hey you, we must have gotten the wrong boarding pass. It says ECONOMY CLASS!" Geet said flabbergasted. She had never in her twenty one years of life travelled in the economy class. Brought up in Manhattan, she had never been short of anything. The Upper East Side lifestyle had a big influence on her and her lifestyle. Even when they resided in Beverly Hills, while her father was still alive, she was spoilt rotten by both her parents.

"We have the correct boarding pass sweetheart." Maan smirked at Geet's expression. She looked like as if someone had sucked the very life out of her. Nevertheless, she put up a brave front and sat beside him. Maan could easily read her face and say she had never travelled in Economy class before, but he did not want to get her hopes high by booking Business Class tickets for them. If she had to survive with him for the next six months or so, she would have to start facing the reality from now onwards only.

Geet was annoyed. If her stepfather had paid him, then why on Earth did he get them in economy class? She had never felt this uncomfortable before. They were flying in Emirates and all she could think about was the Business Class of this Airlines. She always like flying in Emirates, but this man was somehow sort of hell bent on ruining her fondness for the airlines.

She looked around her thinking concentrating on other things would distract her from the irritation she began to feel towards this stranger/husband. Maan was sitting on her left which blocked her view of the sky outside. She always loved looking outside the window and watching the clouds which looked like cotton. When she was small, she used to think the clouds were made of cotton and would want to jump on the clouds. Her dad would tell her one day he would let her dance around in the sky. Remembering her father made her smile. It always did.

Sighing she looked at the direction where she did not have to look at Maan's face. And to her satisfaction, a really cute guy was sitting beside her. He was staring at her with an amusing smile on his face and she gave him a smile in return. Taking it as a positive sign the lad put his hand forward for a handshake. Geet smiled at him again and shook his hand.

"Hi." The man said.

"Hey." Geet replied.

"So you're flying to Dubai?" The man inquired.

"Nah! I am flying to India." Geet beamed while mentioning India.

"Aah! Looks like someone here is really excited. So you're an Indian? What's your name?" The man went on.

"Yes I am an Indian and my name is Geet. What's your name?" Geet said.

"Yash. And hey what a co incidence, I am flying to India too." Yash smiled.

The man had this boyish charm and a very pleasant smile. He seemed like an easy person, unlike her stranger groom, who always scowled and did not say anything. Geet already felt at ease with Yash. Geet was a very fun loving person, even though she had her dark times, but in general she was a loving and caring person, who liked to make people laugh and she always like laughing cause people always told her she looked very pretty smiling for her dimples and the sparkle in those innocent honey brown eyes.

Yash and Geet hit it off instantly. They were talking and laughing as if they have known each other forever. They talked about food, clothes, movies, books, booze, school, college, work, cars, dancing, music. They talked about everything and anything.

Maan on the other hand just sat there looking out the window irritated. They just wouldn't stop and he wanted to take some rest. He thought about talking to Geet but she wasn't even looking at him. Maybe she forgot her husband was sitting right beside her. She kept on flirting with some random guy who sat beside her, while she didn't even look at her husband.

He took a glance at her and saw her smiling. Her face lightened up when she smiled and he noticed she got dimples too. A loose strand of hair was disturbing her he noticed. Unknown to his own actions, his hands automatically reached out for her hair and he tucked her hair behind her ear. Stupefied at his own actions he coughed when Geet looked at him perplexed.

"What? Don't you see I am talking to someone here?" Geet said annoyed at Maan for ruining her moment. She was just getting to know Yash better and he just had to intervene now. Urgh.

"I need to talk to my newly wedded bride." He said loud so that Yash could hear him.

Geet was so pissed now she felt like hitting Maan with something made of steel. He just ruined it for her. Yash and her were getting along so well. Clearly he was acting like an ass on purpose. The flight was so long and their conversation could wait too. What was the big deal here, she thought. Hearing the word "bride", Yash's smile faded. He looked at her shocked and gave a polite smile and looked the other way and not finding anything else to do, he switched on the monitor infront of him and started watching something. She fumed and glared at Maan.

"Look sorry for interrupting your, your, whatever-you-were-doing, but WE NEED TO TALK." He said emphasizing on the last bit.

"What is so important that couldn't wait a few hours. This is such a long flight. You could have saved it for later." Geet told him.

"Excuse me, I am not sitting with you here by choice. I just have no choice. So you better listen to me." Maan fumed and tried to keep his voice low. There were a lot of people around them and they couldn't create a scene inside a plane.

"What is it?" Geet asked, her voice cold and menacing.

Maan took a deep breath and stated, "I don't want you to open your mouth and blabber to everyone about our marriage when we are in India. YOU CANNOT TELL ANYBODY! DO YOU HEAR ME? NO ONE CAN KNOW ABOUT US!"

Geet was dumbfounded. This just made everything all the more easier for her. She smiled wickedly. So as soon as they landed, he surely wouldn't have any problems to part and she could go to Hoshiarpur and find her own people, her blood. She knew she had a grandfather and uncles and cousins. She felt the excitement once again. In her excitement she suddenly hugged him and kissed him on the cheeks.

"Thank you. Oh my God, you have no idea how happy you have made me. She beamed.

Maan touched his cheek where she had kissed him. It felt WEIRD. He was confused by her sudden outburst of emotion. This girl surely seemed to be emotionally imbalanced.

Geet on the other hand took his hand in hers and held it tightly and told him how glad she was that he did not take this marriage seriously and she would never tell anyone that they were married. Maan was relieved to hear this.

Both of them sat in content for now and relaxed a bit. Geet thought she would talk to Maan about her plan once they landed in Delhi cause she did not want to scare him off so soon. For now she needed him as she did not know the country and also she needed a place to stay. With the money her stepdad gave him, she was sure they could stay together for sometime without any kinds of problems coming up. For now she would relax and try to sleep. It was a long day. Geet lied down and closed her eyes with a small smile. Maan looked at her and was replayed the entire day in his head. He felt tired already. So he decided to sleep his tiredness off too. And soon enough Geet was resting her head on Maan's shoulder and Maan resting his head on Geet's head.
