Sonu Nigam and Udit Narayan fight to sing 'Khaike paan Banaraswala' for Farhan Akhtar's Don. Udit wins

Sonu Nigam left no stone unturned to bag the chart-buster song 'Khaike paan Banaraswala' in Don, but all his efforts were in vain as director Farhan Akhtar and the music composers Shankar-Ehsan-Loy chose singer Udit Narayan over him.

"We're aware of how eager Sonu was to sing 'Khaike paan'. In fact he sent us feelers repeatedly," says Ehsaan. "But that earthy UP ka bhaiyya flavour sounded best in Udit's voice. So we selected him, and he has done a good job."

Sonu was quite disappointed and made no efforts to conceal his displeasure. How does Udit feel about that? "Yes, I've heard and read that my getting the song has not gone down too well with Sonu," replies Udit. "But I can't help it if I'm more suited to sing a particular song. There are so many songs that Sonu sings, which I'd like to sing. It's all part of the game. This isn't the first time that Sonu has expressed a grievance about me. When I got my second National award he had made some curious comments about the quality of songs that get such awards. To each his own. I've never made any comments even when I've missed out on popular awards for so many of my deserving songs."

they are both great singers, they shouldnt fight for a song

but it is true that the UP style will sound better with Uditji, cause he from near that area.

now I know why he was hell bent on Sandy....sorry but that make sense to me....even though I like sonu more than udit in any case....and Sonu's comment on National award won by Udit - I never knew that....gosh...this industry is for sure not meant for gentlemen!! few exceptions do survive but rest.....no comment!!

and I'm sure shankar-Ehsan-Loy trio had also listened to this number how rockingly sandy perfomred.....😉 haha....so it was an acid test that got thru finally in winnng the number for Udit.....who knows?😉 Junior udit making way for -> Senior udit!!

Yes, Chander!! it's all apparent now, isn't it..?? But Chander, I've always liked Udit ji more than Sonu for some reason.. I am glad Udit ji got the chance to sing that song!!

I mean both are ace singers...no doubt abt that..its just personal preference and the way sonu sings, I liked it..his passion, energy, enthu and feel of the song...and I also like udit's numbers as they are ever soothing.....ever fresh and ever refreshing to listen to....

ps- only things that i doubt though is to rate them both for this number.....beware, whoever sings it, he has to be rated against Kishore da...and both are, I guess miles behind from that thing...
