Popularity Result Posted : Winner Nihira

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Few days back, I had polled you all to determined who could have been the best jodi. The combos were between Debu/Vineet/Hemu/Nihira/Himani/Ujjaining and others.

First of all thank you for voting. I got a toal of 110 votes (my target was to get 100 votes before I publish the popularity chart).

Below I have published the results in 2 ways. First is what I call Weighted average rating which accounts for a singers's compatibility with a cross section of other singers. Bottomline being, if a person can form jodi with more number of people, he/she gets more credit. Second is just a straight count of votes against each singer's name.

A. Weighted average rating which I believe is more reflective of overall popularity. Read on for explanation of how I arrived at these points and let me know your comments.

Based on the formula explained below, the ranking is

1.Nihira 106 points (clear cut and outstanding winner)

2. Hemu 72 points

3. Debu 47 points

4. Himani 46 points

5. Vineet 21 points

6. Ujjaini 3 points

7. Saptak, Hrishikesh and Paresh 1 points each

Here is the weighted average formula I have used.

Let us say, Mr. M1 got 20 votes with F1, 15 with F2 and 10 with F3. To make his popularity fair across a range of jodis, I have multiplied 20 with 1, 15 with 2 and 10 with 3. What it means is that M1 can go well with the F2 in addition to F1 means that he is versatile meaning his multiplcation factor is more. That he can sing with F3 increases his versatility even more and therefore his multiplication factor increases even more. So total score of Mr. M1 would be 20*1 + 15* 2 + 10*3 = 80.

Based on the above formula

Debu got 42 with Nihira, 1 with Himani and 1 with Twinkle for a total of 47

Vineet got 7 with Nihira and 7 with Himani for a total of 21

Hemu got 29 with Himani, 17 with Nihira and 3 with Ujaini for a total of 72

Himani got 29 with Hemu, 7 with Vineet and 1 with Debu for a total of 46

Nihira got 42 with Debu, 17 with Hemu, 7 with Vineet, 1 with Saptak, 1 with Hrishikesh for a total of unparalled 106

Ujjaini got 3 with Hemu for a total of 3

Saptak, Paresh and Hrishikesh got 1 vote each for a total of 1 each.

B. Straight Vote Count. In this I have counted the votes against each candidate and here is the ranking based on that.

1. Nihira 68 (Clear and outstanding winner again)

2. Hemu 49 votes

3. Debu 44 votes

4. Himani 37 votes

5. Vineet 14 votes

6. Ujaini 3 votes

7. Saptak, Hrishikesh and Paresh 1 votes each

As you can see either way the ranking remains same but what I like about the first rating is that it shows that Debu and Himani are equally popular and that Hemu is far ahead of Debu in terms of his versatility.

Interesting statistics

But did you take into account a lot of factors, like Nihira being a hot favorite among members of this forum, and H amd D being more popular than V.

Also, the fact that there were 6 guys and only 3 girls, meaning that the girls would have jodi options with more people and get more votes

In any case, even after accounting for the minor errors, I would say that these rankings do sufficiently reflect the opinions of the people in this forum.

The other 3 guys, as you can see from the vote count didn't really factor much. 2 of them in fact partnered with Nihira which further corroborated her standing. So the results were not skewed by those additional 3 guys.

As you said, I believe that this is a very good reflection of their popularity and versatility. I am a little bit surprised by low participation of Vineet fans. I expected Vineet to be higher in the tally.

Nahi... Guru to nahi hai.. but thanks for the compliment.
