Badrinath Movie Review ' Badrinath Review ' Badrinath Rating, talk, Telugu Movie Review: Allu Arjun's latest movie badrinath raised so many expectations due to its package and publicity. The film looked like a blockbuster written all over it. Even the makers confidence suggested the same. With aggressive publicity Badrinath is surrounded by huge hype and the expectations continued to scale new heights by the day. So, is it up to the expectations? Did it live up to the hype? Let's uncover Badrinath review...
Story:
Badri (Allu Arjun) is one of the disciples of Bheeshma (Prakash Raj), who is a guru of ancient martial arts. Badrinath grows up into a strong fighter under Bheeshma's rigorous training. He will be appointed as the 'kshetra palakudu' (protector) of Badrinath temple. Alakananda (Tamanna), an atheist comes to Badrinath along with her grandfather. Badri learns that she is in big trouble due to Sarkar (Kelly Dorjee). Alakananda slowly realizes the greatness of Badrinath and turns a devotee. She also falls for Badri who doesn't reciprocate to her love. Bheeshma decides to make Badri his successor by handing over the responsibility of Takshasila. For that Badri has to remain bachelor forever. Not aware of his guru's decision and Alakananda's real feelings towards him Badri gives her a word that he will help her to visit Barinath temple again as she has to do that to make her wish come true. Alakananda prays Lord Badrinath to help her succeed in her love. Bheeshma takes a word from Badrinath that he would take up his duties as a true successor to him. So who wins? How does Badrinath overcomes this contrasting situation?
Analysis:
Badrinath starts on a bright note. The introduction of temples and the visuals are splendid. But immediately it takes a predictable path with some poorly etched characters and scenes. You will hardly find Badrinath being troubled in the training. The training process looks just ordinary. The confrontation between hero and heroine is regular. Nothing new or interesting. The film moves on with a silly flashback episode revealing the troubles of heroine. From then on the movie moves on with a sole reason, that is to find the interval point.
In between there is a fight where Badri goes and kills tens of terrorists with his sword. He simply evades all the bullets with a swing of his sword. It is over the top action which would not be liked by the die hard fans even. Interval episode is too predictable and the action episode goes on for ages during that period. Second half starts on a dull note with hardly any engaging scenes. Song after song follows with a heavily censored fight sequence in between. The film heads to climax with literally nothing happening post interval. Climax is a big let down.
This film is set in current era and that is the biggest logical error as you wouldn't find security and police around Badrinath temple. Even when hundreds of people gets killed there is no sign of police anywhere. The hero goes on a killing rampage in a railway station and the director doesn't care of bringing cops into the scene. Right from the concept of keeping the protagonist as protector to Badrinath temple, this film lacks logic in everything. So called commercial elements didn't work due to weak script.
This film doesn't have any comparisons with Magadheera as the public believed but it has stark resemblance to Shakti movie starring NTR. Like that this film too falls flat on most aspects except for grandeur and a couple of songs.
Performances:
Allu Arjun does the same and speaks like he does in every film despite his awkward costumes and hairstyle. He didn't try to get into the skin of the character as it is no different from his usual roles. His dances are the highlight and probably the only selling factor for this film. Tamanna liberally showed off her skin and helped her part to up the masala dose. Prakash Raj is Okay but his makeup is pretty bad. Kelly Dorjee is wasted and the woman who played his wife is over the top all the time. The man who played their son is a miscast. Raghubabu is regular and repeating Indra's comedy track with Brahmanandam didn't work. Rao Ramesh, Tanikella Bharani didn't have much scope.
Tehnicalities:
Keeravani's songs lack freshness but are good on screen. Thanks to electrifying dances of Allu Arjun. Background score is good but Keeravani failed to recreate his Magadheera magic. Cinematography is good. The visuals of Badrinath stays with you. Art work is fine in parts. Editing is Okay. Story and screenplay written by Chinni Krishna lacks the punch and freshness. Dialogues are mediocre. Action part is another minus as all the fights looked artificial. Production values are good.
VV Vinayak disappoints big time and one cannot completely put blame on him. The problem is with the lackluster script. He couldn't do much with it. He failed in incorporating commercial ingredients too.
Plus Points:
- Badrinath backdrop
- Allu Arjun dances
- Tamanna's glamor
- Few songs
Minus points:
- Story and screenplay
- Over the top action
- Lack of entertainment
- Weak second hour and poor climax
Final Word: Badrinath - This film does justice to the first three letters in its title.đ¤Ł
Box office predictions:
Badrinath lets the audience down who go to the movie expecting a magnum opus. Even if you are in for a regular commercial potboiler it fells short of expectations. It may survive in mass centers due to the never ending fights and mass frenzy songs. It needs a miracle to be a break even at the box office.

Review: Badrinath doesn't impress

There were high expectations from Badrinath considering it was a Geeta Arts production, directed by V V Vinayak and starring Allu Arjun and Tamannaah.
Arjun was even sent abroad to learn martial arts and fights for this film whose picturesque Himalayan location was an added attraction. Yet despite the lavish sets by Anand Sai, that include a recreation of the famous Badrinath temple, the fine camera work of Ravi Varman, and high technical standards, the film falls short of expectation. The storyline is somewhat akin to that of Shakti which released a few months ago, with the same theme of a keeper safeguarding the temple.
Badri (Allu Arjun) is one of his best students and after the training, when the students are allotted to guard various temples, Badri naturally gets Badrinath and protects it with great enthusiasm and devotion to Lord Vishnu [ Images ].
Badri shows off his fighting skills when the protector of Amarnath dies in an attack on the temple by terrorists. Bhishma Narayan orders Badri to vanquish all the attackers and Badri does so with nothing more deadly than a sword, pitted against guns and bullets. He wins, of course, without suffering so much as a scratch.
Into this scenario walks Alakananda (Tamannaah), an atheist, who is brought to the temple by her grandfather as her life is in danger. Since she lost her parents at a young age in this temple (they were both burnt accidentally when her mother's saree caught fire from the camphor and her father tried to save her), she loses faith in God. Badri brings back that faith, and as expected she falls in love with him.
But the path of true love is never smooth. Alakananda is kidnapped by her evil uncle Sarkar [ Images ] (Kelly Dorji) who wants her to marry his son. Moreover, Guru Bhishma wants Badri to be his successor and for that Badri must remain a bachelor. Alakananda, who wants to marry Badri, can only pray to the Lord for help.
The plot lacks originality. The love story is unconvincing and director Vinayak has allowed the action, cinematography, and other aspects to overshadow the romance so that by the second half, much of our interest has waned.
Songs and humour have been inserted in places where they are unwarranted. It's almost as if comedians Brahmanandam, M S Narayana Venu Madhav and Krishna Bhagawan had to be present in the movie and had to be given something to do. The songs prolong the film and add to the tedium. In fact the opening sequence of the song Omkareshwari Srihari Nagari is reminiscent of the famous drum dance in Chandralekha. The song Nachachavura starts off at a waterfall and then cuts to Europe after a few seconds! In one song, Allu Arjun is skiing towards the Badrinath temple under the snow!
The film has fundamentalist overtones, which seems to have escaped the censors. It has been given an A certificate on account of the violent action and skin show. It's quite alarming to hear a woman say, "I love rowdyism since childhood, so I married a rowdy."
The action sequences are well orchestrated by Peter Haynes, the sword fights being fluid and dexterous. The South East Asian influence is obvious in the design of the fights and Arjun does justice to the action sequences for which he has been trained.
Allu Arjun has a supple body, ideal for dancing and action. He breathed some life into the film through the action sequences. But what can he do if the script is lacklustre?
Tamannaah is lively and energetic but is made to show far more skin than is required -- particularly given the film's pious theme. Prakash Raj, for a change, is not a baddie, and turns in a good performance as Guru Bhishma Narayan. Kelly Dorjee plays his usual villain role. Rao Ramesh is wasted in a miniscule role.
M M Keeravani's music is just about okay. The sense of melody that one heard in some songs in Magadheera [ Images ] seems to be missing here though. Ravi Varman's camera work is excellent. He has been able to use the natural beauty of the Himalayan backdrop to advantage. The colourist, Loren White, has done a commendable job. Anand Sai should be congratulated for the almost authentic replica of the Badrinath temple; his sets are indeed praiseworthy.
Allu Aravind can take pride in the lavish production and high technical standards. But the plot and storyline are weak and the film does not engage one. The A certificate may also be a deterrent.

Allu Aravind who made blockbuster films like Magadheera spending crores of rupees on his nephew Ramcharan, set out to produce an equally big budget movie with his own son Allu Arjun as the hero. With V V Vinayak as the director and Tamannah as the heroine, expectations were sky high on 'Badrinath'. Set with the temple town as the backdrop, the movie was a love and action thriller. We watched this movie on the first day and this is what we think of the film... Story Bheeshma Narayana(Prakash Raj) is a martial arts and spiritual guru in Takshasila who is commissioned by Sadhus to train a few kids in martial arts. They want those kids to grow up and become 'Kshetra Palakas'(those who safeguard the temple). Bheeshma trains a group of kids but his favourite amongst them all is Badri(Allu Arjun). He excels in martial arts and on mastering his training, he gets to become the temple guard of Badrinath Maha Vishnu temple. Meanwhile, Alakananda(Tamannah) comes to Badrinath with her grandfather. She doesn't believe in god. Badri challenges that he will make her a devotee of Lord in a week's time. He also helps her in offering 'Pinda Pradanam' to her parents and moved by his act, she falls in love with him. She however doesn't convey the same to him. Her grandfather reveals her past to Badri. Her aunt married a goon called Sarkar(Kelly Dorjee) and that once Alakananda had humiliated her aunt. Her aunt now wants Alakananda as her daughter in law. Badri promises Alakananda's grandpa that he will save her. Meanwhile, Bheeshma wants to make Badri as the head of Takshasila after him. But for that, he has to remain a bachelor all his life. The rest of the story is on how Sarkar targets Alakananda and whether Badri fulfills the promise he made to his Guru Bheeshma. Performances Allu Arjun was in his usual form with nothing great to mention about. More than his acting skills, his dance was impressive. He left the audience wondering how he managed to pull off a few tricky moves on the dance floor. His body is flexible and he is seen dancing with ease. However, he needs to better his Telugu diction and dialogue modulation. He opens his mouth a bit too much while rendering his dialogues which looks awkard. Tamannah did a decent job though there was limited scope for her to perform. Her expressions were apt and timely. However, in this movie, she gave importance to flaunt her body than her acting skills. Prakash Raj puts up a decent act in the role of Allu Arjun's Guru. Raghubabu steals the show with his punch dialogues despite a super short screen time. Bramhanandam, M S Narayana and Krishna Bhagawan as so silly in their comic acts that you would seriously consider walking out of the theatre. They repeated their 'Tenali' act from Indra in this movie and it was super annoying. Child comedian Bharath was a waste of time. Kelly Dorjee was cliched and boring. But most of the fight scnes have been censored and there is a white patch on the screen where cuts have been reccomended. This distracts the audience. Clap worthy moments The first scene in the movie where the threat to temples is shown in a caricature form is interesting and creative. Allu Arjun shows off his six pack body and it is in tandem with his charecter of a warrior. His training of martial arts in Vietnaam reflects in his stunts and fights. His costumes are well designed. Though the songs are wrongly timed and unnecessary, audience put up with them because of Allu Arjun's dance and Tamannah's skin show. The sets erected by Anand Sai look authentic and grand. The temple and its surroundings surely look as true as Badrinath's temple is. Raghubabu's one liners are funny and left the audience in splits. For instance he says, 'Illu Image Hospital Chesi Poyadu', ' Vaadu Vachi Kotti Velladu.Oka 25 Jaipur Kaalu Pampinchandi' sound hilarious. It is tough to blink your eye as Tamannah flaunts her midriff in all the scenes. Her beauty is a galaxy times enhanced in the song 'Nachchavura'. The money spent on making this film is clearly visible in every frame. The background score for this movie is awesome and was used at right places. Cringe worthy moments The story of a temple saviour rings a bell. Yes, haven't we watched NTR Junior play the guard of a temple in Shakti? Or haven't we endured Siddharth as Dheera in 'Anaganaga Oo Dheerudu'? Even a person with a less than a quarter brain will predict the story. Keeravani's music in this film doesn't have a repeat value and gives you a feeling of deja vu. While the villains are shooting bullets at Allu Arjun, he escapes them all and kills them with his sword!! Voila, super hero no??But what is new about it? Kelly Dorjee comes to Tamannah's house and kills her grandfather. Are we living in an animalistic society? Where were the cops? Allu Arjun comes to Bellary railway station and kills hundreds of goons with his sword in the station and takes his heroine back to Badrinath. Chinni Krishna Krishna!!! Bunny jumps from one hill to the other. Hey I thought Hrithik already did this in Krish no? The best of all is Tamannah falls in love with Allu Arjun because he does Pinda Pradhanam for her parents. This will make you want to jump from Badrinath's mountain cliff. Bramhanandam surely wants to complete acting in 1,000 movies and create another record. Otherwise, an actor of his stature wouldn't do such a stupid role. Not a single song has a lead. The 'Iki Tara Iki Tara' track is completely in English. We don't know what to say. It just took Tamannah to look at Allu Arjun with 'love' for a song to start playing. There was a collective uproar and sense of dismay among the audience as songs came by one after the other with no relevance to the story. You don't know where to look when Kelly Dorjee's wife says, "Naaku Chinnapati Nunchi Rowdyism Ante Istam.Anduke Ninnu Chesunkunna'. Though Allu Arjun's dancing skills are excellent, it appeared as if he wanted to show himself as a great dancer and hence the songs. 'Om Kareswara' song wasn't well choreographed. There is a scene where Kelly Dorjee and his men come to Badrinath in Toyota cars all the way from AP. It takes the testing levels of patience to an all new level. The climax of the movie is pale and the screenplay is weak. The VFX used to show clouds, heroine plunging into the river and helicopter shots look fake. Verdict There is nothing new or great about this film. It is a very predictable story with nothing noteworthy to mention about. An average film. Released on: 10th June, 2011 |
