It definately hit something, and we all know she is alone and how she just exists i guess, but its a difference when someone actually hints or tell you that you are lonely, and you might not dwell on what they said but it definately would of pricked you inside
I am sure it pricked her, and that question as you say was a key question 'what about her life, who does she have in her life' - her first instinct would be 'i have no one' isnt it, but as we said she has Kesar, Kesar is in her life, if she looks and just search for him in her and around her, he is there. It even looked like Kesar wants her to acknowledge him as well that he is in her life. - but she wont even considered anything regarding Kesar esp as she feels Talli has that right on him and loves him, and her main blockage is Talli and herself, imagine if Talli wasnt here, would she ever even think of her and Kesar, or even naturally think of them together, even if she dismisses the idea but would she ever think of the idea of them, despite everything like you said in another thread there is something between Kes-Gul, whether she realizes it or not, which is deep and just there
That question could be have a few hints, well we saw that Kesar was hinting about D from his pov, but in Gulaal's pov is 'i have no one'
If i look at the scene again the way Kesar asks her and she looks on then looks away, we could also assume from Kesar pov that the reason she avoided his gaze is that there is probably someone in her life judging by how he thinks there is also another reason for making this promise to Talli, - Dushyant hint, and then which Raman aggravated more and stirred into him (its no wonder the assumptions Kesar is coming up coz what else can he come up with, it all adds up to this outcome from his pov, the only thing that make him not believe it and has a doubt on it, in how he knows Gulaal and is somewhat faith in her which is kinda fading away)
Its good that Kesar turns the question around to her, atleast that way she will be able to feel a prick and atleast for a moment think and dwell on it. I like how you said that you need to show the emptiness in her life and not only that fill it, filling that would bring so much emotions for her, coz it will make her feel it, that hollow in her which i think does sometimes suffocate her - even when there is nothing but emptiness you still feel the suffocation of it, and i find that each time she breaks down its this hollow in her that makes her do this and grasping onto things that are falling and unraveling
Talking about filling her emptiness and make her see and feel (something more as well) - there is kinda one way i see that happening is when and hopefully Kesar realises he is in love with her, he will have a difference in his demeanour and how he is around her and how he approaches her, you know like a man is towards a woman - intense loving way i guess, tell her she is his everything, that he loves her, needs her etc and Kesar is intense so i can see him being totally possessive coz he is has that in him, and his love is intense, so his dialogue would def have to be impactful (i hope i am making sense), and the fact that Kesar hasnt realised it yet, is one the reason we havent got those kind of scenes yet and for Gulaal to feel something more and make her blush/or yearn like a woman i guess
Gulaal building and insecuring other ppl's life - living her whole life just on Vasant's promise and dreams (i know she has a need to bind everyone together and hold them together coz its one of Vasant's dream to have his whole family together), she is losing her own life along the way and herself i guess (it reminds of what Veer said about Zaara in his poem)
Mere Khwabo Ko Pura Karte
Khud Ke Khwab Bhool Chuki Hain Woh
Mere Logon Kii Sewa Karte
Apne Logon Ko Chodh Chuki Hain Woh
