Anupama back to Shah house , at Baa's feet !
21 years of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi
First Page Of Her Story
She ran alongside the departing train, as she tried jumping on it before it drew out of the station. Feeling wretched at the thought of missing her train she pushed her legs to keep running. Her heart pulsated as fear gripped her and as the realisation that her train had pulled out of the station sunk in she let out a frustrated sigh.
She now regretted stopping by that road side stand to bump up a plate of chat. She had been on her way to the railway station when she had seen a kid standing alone by the roadside howling and instinctively she had asked the auto driver to stop the auto. She had run towards the kid who looked no older than two years when she had seen a lady dressed in blue suit take the kid in her arms and feed him that seemingly delicious chat. Looking around she had spotted a chat stall and her mouth watered almost immediately but she had no time to waste as she was already running late. Glancing at her watch she had pulled a face as she'd turned on her heels and headed towards the auto. She was running out of time and she had a train to catch but then she really wanted to eat it and moreover how much time it takes to guzzle a plate of chat, she could certainly stop for five minutes. Apparently it took her a whole twenty minutes to finish that one plate of chat as she had this very bad habit of relishing each and every bite. In the end, now she was left stranded at Jammu Railway station in the mid of the night.
Missing her train was by far the worse she had ever faced due to PMS which very conveniently made her stomach rumble and mouth water for every spicy thing that came into her view and not to forget although while eating that thing felt like the yummiest dish ever tasted later on it would prove harmful to her and knowing everything she still couldn't resist them. "Mera toh bad luck hi kharab hai" She muttered, annoyed at everything around her.
Turning round she headed towards the exit when she saw a puppy trying to dodge over the rails. On a closer look she realised the puppy had a hurt leg and hence it wasn't able to jump over the rails. It was then that she heard roar of an approaching train. She grew panicky as she saw the train get nearer to the puppy and almost immediately and thoughtlessly she ran as she jumped down the platform. Picking up the puppy she glanced at the train which was now only a few meters away from her, she froze. Her body went as taut as a bowstring and her mind failed.
With no time to even brace herself for the accident which would in all certainty render her death, she simply squeezed shut her eyes. She did that often when she was scared or nervous or even embarrassed. At times like these, her mother would chide her for her child like behaviour saying "Kabootar agar eyes band kar le, koi fark nahi parta the cat will eat it anyway. It's should fly and not shut its eyes like you should face your fears instead of freezing" to which she would simply storm off the room stomping her foot saying "Mamma I am not a bird and sorry mujhe udna nahi aata"
Minutes ticked off.
She waited and waited and waited to collide into her death but nothing happened.
Opening her eyes she came face to face with a man dressed in Indian Army camouflage. He was young and devastatingly handsome. His ruggedly handsome features had her in awe and cheery on top he looked all the more striking in that uniform. His deep chestnut eyes, the dark black hair, the slight subtle, the stunningly muscular shoulders . . . God he was definitely a sight to behold. She felt her heart lurch and thousands of butterflies dance in her stomach. Her voice was stuck in her mouth as her throat parched and'
It was then the puppy in her arms yapped making her snap out of her staring session and understanding of what would have happened dawned upon her. She was in a man's arms, a man in uniform to be precise and probably he pulled her out of harm's way just in time.
She cleared her throat just as the man helped her stand on her feet. She smiled with gratitude as she thanked him "Thank you for saving my life"
"What in the god's name made you stroll in the mid of a rail track" the man ranted.
"I saw the puppy" Geet whispered as she fumbled with words in her head.
"Were you out of your mind" he yelled at the top of his lungs and that infuriated her.
"Excuse me, who do you think you are to yell around at me" Geet puffed at the seemingly handsome yet unrefined Man in uniform.
"Who else will have a right then if not me" As soon as the words left his mouth she heard him muttering something to himself under his breath.
"What did you just say . . . who the hell are you that have a right to yell at me"
If she could have her way she would have indulged in a dual with him there and then but considering he was a man and that to a man in uniform, it wouldn't be wise to fight him even if she had trained in martial arts but anyway that was also a rather time pass activity for her so a verbal was better and safer.
"If you don't remember I saved you from being crushed under the train, so that way you owe me your life and I sure as hell can shout at you" he clarified.
"Oh hello . . . Mr Arrogant let me make one thing clear, I did not come running for you to save me" Geet retorted.
"Of course you didn't come running, after all you were busy trembling in fear awaiting the train to hit you" he snapped back.
"Whatever" Geet stomped her foot as she turned over her heels and walked off.
"You know you were at fault so obviously you have nothing to say and hence WHATEVER" he called out from behind as she stopped next to the platform.
"Breathe in, breathe out, Breathe in, breathe out" Geet muttered to herself as she took in and let out air and tried her level best to not knock that man whoever he was. Ignoring his statement all together she carefully placed the puppy at the platform after which she tried getting on it herself. Apparently it was too high for her and despite her best efforts she could not get her feet over it.
It was then that she felt a finger brush down her arm and the next moment a hand slid across her waist sending chills down her spine and strangling her nerves. Instinctively she turned around just as her eyes fell on the same ruggedly handsome face. As she kept a hand over his to pry it off of her stomach his hold round her waist tightened. She looked at him angrily as she bit out "What the hell'
Before she could finish her statement she felt him entwine his fingers with hers as he squeezed her palm and tossed her arm round his neck as he bent down a little to lift her in his arms. The next thing she knew . . . was being plonked onto the hard platform.
Her mouth opened in a wide 'O' as the realisation that he had dropped her dawned on her. She seethed as she saw him jump onto the platform and rub off the dust from his sleeves. Army men are supposed to be Gentlemen and he shouldn't clean his clothes when a Lady is lying in front of him trying to spring on her feet whilst wearing stiletto. God, she was beginning to doubt if all she'd heard about the refined manners of the Defence personals from Meera were true at all. It was then she covered her mouth with her hands as she feared 'what if it was indeed not true'. Closing her eyes she puffed out air as she thought "Geet don't you worry, you'll convince them. They did say the final decision will be yours so why fear when you have it all in control. Now calm your nerves and get going"
She remained seated comfortably on the platform with her eyes closed, not even trying to get up.
"Just one visit to Vaishno Devi, made you spiritually inclined and that too to this extent." She heard him razz.
Instantly she opened her eyes and'
It was then that she realised just how she was sitting . . . her legs crossed and hands carelessly resting on her knees . . . she was sitting in the meditation posture on a railway platform. Screw that, why was she even sitting on the ground for the past ten minutes.
She flushed for a second before assuring herself it was no big deal. Things happen on their accord and not that people were throwing peculiar glances at her, now were they, apparently they were which she soon realised as she heard giggles in the background. Yet it was certainly not the worst of all embarrassing sessions that she had ever faced. As the worse was when in second year she was late for her class and in hurry she'd sit on a guy instead of the seat and well, that was embarrassing and the fact that her professor was no one other than her mother did no good. That day in order to escape her mother's wrath she'd stayed over at her friend Meera's house. Thinking her mom would have cooled down by the next day, she'd gone home in the evening only to find her mother flipping. So yeah, this was not much in comparison to that as here at least people didn't know who she was and even if her path crossed with one of them in future they won't even remember her although there were chances that they vaguely remember her as the stupid mindless girl meditating or seemingly meditating in a railway station platform. She realised there was no point thinking about it and that she wasn't helping herself by keep sitting there in the same position.
Keeping her hand on the ground she tried getting up and as she stumbled backwards a hand reached out to hers and pulled her upright. She crashed into something muscled and this time there was absolutely no need for her to check just whose chest she hit. Regardless she lifted her face to meet his eyes and she could swear they were enchanting but she knew what lay beyond and well, she wouldn't fall for their enchantment.
He slithered his hand across her waist, pulling her even close he bent his face to her ear as he whispered "Girls will be girls, travel karte time bhi heels pehenna jaroori hai, right miss" Sliding his nose against her cheek, he slowly let go of her waste as he took a step back. It took her quite some time to realise just what he had said. He had commented on a girls dressing sense . . . on her dressing sense and he had touched her . . . intimately. How dare he?
"Listen you" she pointed a finger at him "Firstly commenting on a girl, the way you did, is not good mannerism and secondly'
He held her finger, startling her in doing so, and said "Pointing fingers at people is also not good manners"
"You, Urgh" she pulled her finger to herself "Go to hell" saying so, she put on her rucksack and stormed off to the ticket counter.
"Address toh deti jao" he called out as he ran after her.
She stopped in her tracks as she turned on her heels, her face flushing with anger "Are you even an officer, harkaton se lagta toh nahi hai" She shot him a 'you-are-disgusting' look as she bit out "officers like you are a disgrace to the Indian Army. Oh wait" She smiled sardonically "correction there, men like you are a disgrace to mankind. You know what exactly you are . . . a perv'
"Don't you dare" he barked furiously not letting her complete her sentence. Seeing the fire in his eyes, she felt she would be incinerated to ashes. She gulped as she took tentative steps backwards while he advanced towards her. Her breath was caught in her throat as she felt him grab her wrist and drag her alongside him outside the station. She wriggled as she roared "What the hell do you think you are doing". He looked over his shoulder, still pulling her behind him he bit out "Just what it looks like"
"Leave my hand. NOW" she thundered as she held his fingers and tried prying them off of her hands.
She looked around and spotted a few men standing near a jeep parked in a corner of the parking lot. Before she could call out for help she felt him leave her wrist and just as she looked at him he pushed her inside the ATM booth.

Her bosom collided with his muscular chest as he slammed his body onto hers and now locked both his arms around her waist under the backpack. She wriggled to free herself from his grip. Keeping her hands at his chest she tried pushing him away just as he pulled her even close thereby blocking her hands between their chests. "Let me show you" He moved his lips over her ears as he rasped "Disgrace to mankind". With that said he forcefully held her jaw as she let out a yelp. With one hand painfully squeezing her waist and the other forcefully holding her jaws, he looked at her as he whispered huskily "I'll show you Pervert".
She pushed harder against him as she tried pulling her hands away but all in vain as he cornered her against the wall. She shuddered as she felt his breath on her lips and she yet again like it has always been with her, whenever she is scared she freezes and she froze. Leaning over her face he stopped right before her lips as he spoke "For the record I am not a Pervert neither a disgrace to the Indian Army so I'm going to let showing you 'What-is-a-pervert' slip" He slid his hands off her waist as he whispered "You love freezing, don't you."
With that said he took a step backwards, holding her eyes captive he smirked as just as the realisation dawned on her that he was going to, he was about to . . . Damn the man and his guts, how the hell did he dare touch her like THAT. She scowled at him as she yelled "You as--"
"No uttering profanities Geet, remember your new year resolution. NO Profanities will escape my throat" She mumbled to herself as she closed her eyes for a moment. Opening her eyes she found him standing with his hands crossed over his chest and a smirk playing at his lips. After a brief glance at him she stormed off before her resolution broke.
"Kami' . . . No profanities" she walked ahead senseless as she chanted "No profanities, No profanities, No profanities, No profanities"
It was then she heard whistles and turning around she saw a few hooligans advancing towards her.
"RUN" her mind screamed and her legs moved on their own accord. Looking over her shoulder she found those men chasing after her. Terror seized her soul as she saw them nearing her. Breathing heavily she ran to the best of her capability. It was then that her heel broke and she winced as her rear hit the ground. Taking off her heels she held them as she got on her feet but before she even got a chance to escape she felt a tug at her Duppatta.
"Don't freeze, don't freeze, don't freeze" She muttered as she looked behind. Trembling with fear she managed to pull up a brave face and commanded "Leave my Duppatta"
"Na chodun toh'
Before she could retort back, the man was onto the ground and her duppatta slid off of her chest. Instinctively her hands crossed over to her chest, trying to cover her modesty and the moment she felt her hands cover her chest she gasped at her own behaviour. She was the same girl who had chided Meera for doing something similar. She remembered that day when in the college canteen Meera's duppatta had accidentally slipped off and Meera had used her hands to cover her chest instead of lifting the Duppatta back. She had literally created a fuss about Meera's behaviour. Giving a damn to her surroundings Geet had given Meera one fat lecture. She still could recall just how she had concluded her bantering back then before Meera broke into tears . . . "Meera, You do wear T-shirts, sweats, shirts and all right. Do you cover yourself with a duppatta or worse your hand even then? No right. Agar duppatta gir gaya to pick it up and settle it at its place, why do you need to pull up the movie-actress-type stupid nonsense of covering your chest. By the way, Just for the record the neck of your blue T-shirt the one you wore yesterday was way deeper than this suit of yours."
She was lost in her thought when she felt a cloth cover her over her hands. Glancing up, she saw him standing in front of her adjusting her duppatta round her neck. Her hands fell to her sides as she stood there silently. Their brief eye lock was disturbed as someone hauled him by his shoulder and next just as a punch was directed onto his face the other man already had a bleeding mouth.
Punches, thumps, kicks and blows followed as she counted . . .
Two . . . Three . . . Four . . . Five . . . All down.
"Well, he is a good fighter." She thought.
He walked towards her as he cupped her cheek and whispered ever so softly "You OK". She could feel the concern laced in his tone and strangely enough her heart gave a lurch in excitement. Well, why was she excited even she did not know but that comforting hand on her cheek made her feel warm inside.
She nodded and just when she was about to thank him he razzed "Lagta hai miss your heels ditched you"
God this man was the limit. She shot him a glare as she walked away only to be followed by him. Soon he was walking by her side and she had no idea whatsoever where she was headed. She was just walking and walking. Why was she even walking . . . and then she stopped.
"Where are you going" she asked him rather calmly as she looked at him.
"Wherever you lead" he replied just as she frowned and said "I don't know where I am going. So you will lead"
"So you mean you will follow a disgraceful pervert cum officer" he smirked.
She scowled as she bit out "I can lead my way. You go find yours"
He continued walking by her side as she tried her level best not to spare him a single glance. But despite it all, she did catch a glimpse of him from the corner of eyes in every few seconds.
It had been fifteen minutes since she kept walking aimlessly as he followed her. This wasn't going to get anywhere. She should have been in railway station inquiring about the next train to Delhi rather she was walking without any reason. She stopped as she turned backwards and stared walking towards the station yet again as he followed. In another thirty seconds she stopped yet again as she asked him "Why are you following me"
"I am following you, really. I did not know that. I am just walking you know, just like that" he stifled a chuckle but she was quick enough to read that smile in his eyes. So he was going to taunt her indirectly. She turned yet again as she walked away. He followed her.
She stopped again and turned again and walked away again just as he followed.
She stopped . . . He stopped.
She turned . . . He turned.
She walked away . . . He followed.
This continued for a few minutes before she realised she did not know where she was. It was night time, this city was not her hometown, the roads looked all the same, street lights were flickering and the atmosphere was chilly and she was now stranded in the mid of nowhere.
She stopped . . . He stopped. She crossed her hands over her chest and he did the same. She threw her backpack onto the ground and plonked herself over it as he sat next to her. She held her sandal at her eye level as she examined the broken heel.
"You know, by staring at it woh jud nahi jayegi" he teased.
"Could you please SHUT UP" she started off softly and ended it with a bark.
"Waise main Delhi ja raha hoon. I missed my train"
"You did" she raved.
"Yes, and I suppose even you missed yours" he replied back.
She grumbled "Couldn't that damned train wait a minute."
"Well, as far as my knowledge is concerned people wait for trains not the other way round" He said pretending to be serious.
"Stop razzing" she gritted her teeth.
"If you are also going to Delhi, I have a car I can drop you" He offered as she rolled her eyes "You have a car and yet you were going to go by train"
"I am going home for three days only so what's the point talking the car along and moreover if I drive I would have been exhausted" he replied back.
"If it's only for three days why are you even going? I mean one day in going up and one day in going down, you'd only have a day to spend home. You know, you should at least go for a week if not more" She said thoughtfully.
"I'd love to if only my leave gets sanctioned" he smiled softly.
"Doesn't army allow their people to go home" she asked as he chuckled "No it's not like that. But uh . . . it's just that sometimes work comes first."
"So where is your car" she asked as she got on her feet.
"So you don't mind coming with a disgraceful-pervert-cum-officer" he teased playfully.
"Well, I don't mind going with a respectful-not-so-pervert-cum-officer-who saved me twice" She smiled warmly "Besides I do not think there's another train for like five or six hours and I have to reach Delhi before tomorrow afternoon"
"By the way the respectful-not-so-pervert-cum-officer-who saved you twice hasn't yet got his thank you even once" he pretended to wipe an imaginary tear as she chuckled and said "Thank you once and thank you twice"
"Now where is your car" She asked as she put on her ransack.
"Give me a moment" he said as he pulled out a phone from his pocket and punched a number "Naresh, jeep wapas station ki taraf mod lo. I need to get back to the quarter"
"You said car right not jeep so Uh are you going to drive all the way to Delhi in an open jeep." She asked sincerely as he smiled at her and replied "No not in a jeep and my car is in the cantonment and I need to get it from there."
They walked back to the station and just as she was about to ask him where was the jeep waiting for him she saw an army jeep stop right in front of them. They headed towards his house or quarter whatever it was, and taking his car they headed towards their destination.
"You like music" she asked out of nowhere.
"Yes somewhat" he replied as he looked ahead at the road. It was a pain to drive at night especially when the headlights of the other vehicles blinding your eyes. He had to be extra careful.
"Can I turn on the radio" she asked apprehensively.
"Um . . . actually I need to get the stereo fixed for that." he smiled sheepishly.
"Oh, its fine" She said with a small smile then her stomach rumbled. She turned as she looked at the backseat and extended her hand to grab her backpack. There was a bump and her head hit his shoulder just as a yelp escaped her lips and instantly he pushed the break.
Holding her head she settled in her seat as he leaned over and caressed her head "You OK" he asked with concerned laced voice as she her hand fell onto her lap and she closed her eyes feeling him softly rub at the little red spot on her temple.
She felt his breath at her neck and jitters ran through her nerves. Leaning over her, he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as he whispered "Seatbelt is put in cars for a reason, you see, you need to buckle it to avoid bumping your head" Saying so he buckled the seat belt and turned on the ignition.
"You have strong muscles" she stated thoughtlessly.
"I know" with that said he resumed driving.
Her stomach rumbled again but this time she managed to grab the bag and pull it onto her lap. She yanked open the chain impatiently as she pulled out a plastic container. Her mouth watered as she opened the container and the next she thing knew was the taste of chocolate in her mouth. Relishing each and every bite she nibbled at the chocolate.
One . . . Two . . . Three . . . Four . . . Five . . . Six . . . Seven . . . Eight . . . Nine . . . Ten . . . "STOP"
"What" she asked as she continued nibbling her tenth chocolate and he frowned. "It's your tenth right, chocolate isn't supposed to be gobbled like a proper meal"
"I love chocolates" she replied as she continued eating.
Eleven . . . twelve . . . thirteen . . . Fourteen . . . Finally over . . . she heard him let out a deep sigh as he saw that the box was empty.
She kept the box back in her bag and although she was full, she really wanted to see that him frown. She took out another box and as expected he widened his eyes at her as she giggled looking at his expression and soon she was laughing like a maniac as she kept the box back inside the bag.
"Do you always eat that many chocolates at one go" He asked, amusement clearly visible over his face.
"Not always but yes mostly" She replied casually.
"And you still maintain such figure that could kill any man" he asked and just as she looked at him in shock, she saw her biting his lip. She heard him clarify his blatant statement "You look healthy and fit and fine so you know just wondering, nothing serious. Don't take it the wrong way and I didn't mean'
She stopped his rambling as she broke into a fit of laughter. She saw him flush as he stared ahead at the road and she stopped laughing.
After a few moments of silence something clicked in her mind "How did you know I went to Vaishno Devi"
~CONTINUED BELOW~
~CONTINUED FROM ABOVE~
"Uh . . . Actually, uh . . . it was a guess" he fumbled.
"Was it" she raise her brow as she saw him gulp.
"Yes it was."
"Are you telling me the truth" she asked suspiciously.
"Why would I lie" he said "Waise any special reason for your visit"
"Yes, it's my friends first wedding anniversary and the day she'd fallen in love with her now husband usne mannat mangi thi ki if she gets married to him she would make him eat Vaishno Devi's Prasad every wedding anniversary till the seventh one and she is seven months pregnant now so she couldn't possibly travel all the way to get it and her husband wasn't ready to leave her alone and then her Dadi-saas stepped in and you know she is over seventy years and I really did not want her to travel all the way up here so here I am." She finished it all in one breath.
"Umm" he replied with slight smile playing at his lips.
"So this girl is a really girl friend of yours" he asked.
"Best of all" she replied with beaming smile.
"So who all are there in her family?"
"Her Dadi ma, her husband and her brother-in-law" she replied thoughtlessly.
"The brother-in-law is married"
Now that washed the smile off her face as she said "I wish." She could swear she'd seen a certain disappointment cover his face as she answered.
"Why do you wish he should have been married?" he asked and that was when she felt he was Intruding.
"Why are you asking me so many questions" she asked irritated at his so called interrogation. Was she annoyed at him or at the mention of that man, she couldn't contemplate.
"We have a long journey ahead and so we needed to talk otherwise I'll sleep driving and I am sure you wouldn't want that" he replied back.
She was kind of convinced at his answer and so she decided to give a reply to his previous question. "Basically my parents and my friend want an alliance between us, that guy and me"
"So what's the problem" he asked and she could clearly make out he was restless.
"I don't know. Uh . . . I haven't met him. In fact I have not even seen his photograph. He was not even around for his younger brother's wedding. Mom did give me the picture but I did not bother giving it a glace as there was no point in it. I am anyway going to refuse the marriage but my parents are quite persistent this time around" she replied with a tinge of sadness in her voice.
"You know, you should at least give it a chance" he said softly and before she could reply he raved "Why were you going to refuse just like that, is there someone else in your life." She gaped at him until he added "if only you would like to talk"
She thought for a moment and decided to speak her heart out. After all, she really needed to talk and since she couldn't talk about it to her mother as she won't listen and Meera would start grumbling that she didn't want to get married in the same house as her as. So she spoke with slight apprehension "No it's not about that. I hardly have time to talk with guys apart from work. I am studying architecture and also taking tuitions of my colony kids and when I am free I am either at Meera's place or shopping or just lazing around" she smiled as she continued "Besides I am a full time chatter box and I don't really have a good repo in my college, I am the complaint box of the batch and no guy could handle that"
"Then what is the problem in at least meeting this guy" he asked still looking at road.
"Du-uh I don't have time. It's my final year and I would rather concentrate on building my career." She replied curtly.
"Is he against you studying or working?"
"I don't know. Haven't talked with him neither I'm interested. But I have to say his grandmother is one hell of a lady. She is so beautiful, the way she carries herself my god such elegance and sophistication, the way she talks so authoritatively and above all she handles the empire all on her own. Not that, Yash, my friend's husband . . . doesn't help but he is not that into it and the elder one is not around. She is also the secretary of women's association and her dressing sense, seriously had I been a guy I would have married her regardless of the age difference." She bantered as she saw him look at her in astonishment.
"So will you like meet him"
She said sulking "Not like I have a choice" she smirked "But he will definitely reject me"
"I don't think so" he stated "You're beautiful, child like, sweet, irritating, smart, cute, caring . . .
"Stop, Childlike, irritating, who would like such a girl" She exclaimed flabbergasted.
"I would." he said "Don't take it the wrong way and I am not flirting. I mean seriously you are likable and look you came all the way up here as you did not want his grandmother to stress and a girl like you will only make his life more interesting"
"I can bet he will say no" she replied confidently.
"How can you be so sure" he asked with confusion written all over his face.
She smirked "I have a full proof plan under my sleeves"
He looked at her waiting for her to continue as she took out a bottle of jumpstart from her bag "Special tea for him, then you see I love heels and also stomping other's foot, I can talk from my nose, and I've heard he doesn't like chillies so I have a special snack in mind with extra chilly and all other spices then I'll tell him I am a lesbian and ta-da he'll never look back."
"Are you a lesbian?"
"No" she almost jumped.
"What if he still says yes?"
"Why would he"
"What if he knows everything about you, maybe he does homework well before he meets you, your friend may have talked about you to him, he may have seen you in his house when you were not paying attention. He may have seen you drooling over an actor while you watched a movie with your friend at her place. You know there are possibilities" he reasoned.
"I don't really think that could be the case as he was never around when I went to Meera's house" she replied.
"I am just saying that he may have been there but you did not know about it. He may have seen you when you stayed over at your friends place"
"I have stayed over at her place just once that too as I was scared of going home and facing my mom, regardless I did get a chiding from her the next day and if he really says yes I'll lie to him that I am in love with someone else"
"What if he tells your parents" he asked curiously.
"I'll request him not to and if he is a gentleman he would oblige by my request and if not then dekhi jaye gi"
"You should give it a try. May be you'll like him. What kind of guy would you want as a life partner?"
"Me, I don't know . . . Uh . . . I really never gave it a thought. Oh wait someone like Dadi ma, Yash's grand mom." She replied back.
"What if he does have a few things like her" he asked as he took a turn just as her duppatta fell over his chest.
Extending her arm she pulled back her duppatta as he kept his hand on the gear and in the process their hands grazed sending a chill down her spine. Now that was a new feeling.
"Then I might consider talking with him genuinely" she smiled.
With that they continued talking about anything and almost everything. What they liked, what they disliked, simply everything. She told him her childhood stories and he would tell her his and she bitched about a few professors of her college as he talked about his seniors. They did not even realise when the dawn broke and they reached Delhi.
He dropped her at her house and opened the car gate for her.
"So Goodbye then and thank you for helping me out, Really nice meeting you" she said with a warm smile.
"Nice meeting you too Miss . . .
"OMG, we have been chatting for hours all together and we don't even know each other name" she raved.
"I am Geet" she said as she flashed a beautiful smile.
"Maan" he replied as he shook her hand. She wondered as she mumbled to herself "I've heard the
name somewhere"
"So, Goodbye"
"Goodbye"
With that said he turned to leave as she walked towards her house entrance.
Just when she was about to enter her house he called out "Geet what if that guy were like me"
"Then he definitely stands a chance . . . Huge one" she smiled as she waved him goodbye and he left.

People teemed around in the brightly lit hall, decorated with orchids and lilies and scented of rose. Shouldering her way through the crowd she ran up the stairs as she braced herself to face the wrath of her friend. These were the moments she couldn't help but ask God why women had to be emotionally on the edge during pregnancy.
Gulping in fear, she knocked at the door just as it creaked open and she came face to face with a seething Meera who stood with a red nose, and her hands rested on the sides of her now huge belly as she scowled at Geet. She felt as though she was caught in a lion's den and there was no escape. Mustering all her courage she spoke "Meera woh actually traffic bohot tha."
That was the last time she spoke a full sentence as hitherto Meera did not let complete a single word leave alone a sentence as she threw tantrums.
"I've been waiting for the past half an hour" Meera yelled.
"It's my wedding anniversary and I am not ready" Meera looked like she would cry any moment.
Suddenly her expressions changed as her eyes became slits "Why"
"Because my friend who is now standing inside my room . . . is late" Pointing at Geet she accused.
"LATE for my wedding anniversary party" She picked up a pillow and aiming at it Geet she threw it as Geet ducked her head right in time.
"And she had promised to get my dress" another pillow was hauled towards Geet and this time she caught it.
"It's my first wedding anniversary and I am not yet ready" Meera threw her hands in the air as she glanced at herself, still dressed in her night dress.
Holding her hair she brought a few strands in front of her face "Look at my hair, it needs blow drying"
Looking at her nails she cried "My nails aren't polished"
She sat on the bed "My face pack went missing"
A tear escaped her eye "Yash won't enter the room ever since veerji came"
"No one cares about me" and she broke into tears as Geet went down on her knees and held her eyes as she made a puppy dog face and mouthed a sorry. Meera rolled her eyes as she said "Neeche baithi rahegi yah meri ready hone mein help bhi karegi"
Springing to her feet Geet got to work.
************
Geet clapped her hands together as she examined Meera from head to toe.
Meera blushed as Geet did the last touch up and whispered in her ears "You look ravishing, Yash is so dead"
*************
All eyes shifted to the stairs as the two gorgeous ladies descended down the stairs, each of their faces glowing. Savitri Devi walked over to the foot of the stairs proudly as she held out her hand towards her younger daughter-in-law and smiled at the other girl hoping that next year she would be her elder daughter-in-law. She had been on top of the world when Yash had announced he wanted to get married but she was also apprehensive that with the eldest grandson still a bachelor how could the younger one get married and then she'd seen her with Meera and she knew. At first glance she had chosen her as the eldest daughter-in-law and she happily did the arrangements for Yash and Meera's wedding as although she did somewhere want the eldest brother getting married first but she'd also known that convincing her stubborn grandson was no cake walk and just because the elder wasn't married it wasn't fair to keep the younger one from having his share of life. Besides she had had plans to make. The first of which was talking with Meera right after she'd become Mrs Meera Yash Khurana. Meera had been all the more happy when she'd learned of the novel intentions of her great-mother-in-law. She had helped Savitri Devi by always making sure to talk about Geet and praise her endless in front of her Veerji. She'd made sure to bring Geet home whenever veerji came home, although much to her disappointment her dear friend never even realised his presence and for some unknown reason even her veer ji avoided any encounter with her. Savitri Devi's plan to hook up Geet with her grandson had started to fail as one was completely oblivious to the other's presence while the other preferred to admire in hiding. With no choice left she's asked for Geet's hand for her elder grandson and Geet's parents were more than happy with the alliance. Somehow she'd managed to bring up the subject of marriage to her grandson when he'd come home last but he had refused bluntly without even bothering to know the details. But just as she'd told him the girls name she'd noticed a certain change of expressions over his face as his eyes had glinted with certain happiness and he had agreed but not without showing attitude. He'd said he was only doing it for her sake and that he wasn't interested in any girl whatsoever but Savitri Devi knew better. Finally the day was here when they were to meet . . . HOPEFULLY.
***********
She was laughing her head off listening to Yash flirting with his wife when Meera squealed "Maan Veer ji"
Did Meera just say Maan? Now she knew why that name sounded familiar.
Apprehensively she turned around and . . .
And she froze seeing the man dressed in a black sherwani look at her. Her mouth opened in a wide 'O' just as she saw HIM standing in front of her and walking towards her. She forgot to blink as she gaped at him in shock.
"Geet this is Maan Veer ji" Meera smiled.
"And she is Geet but I guess you already know that, right bro" Yash smirked knowingly.
"Yes" was all she heard him say before it struck her that . . .
"Excuse me" saying so, she literally dashed upstairs.
****************
Entering a washroom she locked the door behind her as she rested her back against it and closed her eyes biting her lower lip. GOD! How could she have been so damned silly? She knew Meera's brother in law was an officer, she also knew he was posted in Jammu; she also knew his name was Maan. She covered her mouth as she remembered what all she had said to him. How on earth was she supposed to face him? She flushed as she recalled just what she'd replied to his previous question. She had said he stood a chance if he was like him and he was him. Her cheeks turned pink as the thought crossed her mind "He did stand a chance."
**********
"NO BIG DEAL" she assured herself as she stepped back into the party after locking herself in that room for over an hour. She had to come out, after all how long could she stay in the washroom and not even open the door for others.
"DAMN" she muttered under her breath as she saw him advancing in her direction with Savitri Devi alongside him and even her father was approaching her.
'Geet beta tu toh gayi. Apna muh band nahi rakha jata na. Kya jaroorat thi itni bak bak karne ki. Ab be ready for the worst embarrassment session' was all she could think.
"Geet now jo ho gaya so hogaya. Now we need to do some damage control so just don't look at him" she fidgeted with her duppatta as she muttered "Don't look at him, don't look at him. don't look at him"
Bang
She looked.
Their eyes met.
Her heart gave a lurch.
Her stomach churned.
Jitters ran through her nerves.
Then, she couldn't look away.
She felt a hand at her shoulder and she jerked out of their not so brief eye lock and next she heard her father say "Geet you met Maan"
"Papa actually Meera was calling me and if I don't go now she'll create a fuss." With that she ran away yet again.
**************
She was running down the hallway when she was pulled inside a room just as a palm covered her mouth before she could scream. She shuddered as her eyes met his. She felt the exact same feeling course through her as the ones she'd felt when he had saved her from coming under the train. Just that the intensity was tenfold this time around. She did what her reflexes asked her to . . . she squeezed shut her eyes as her forehead wrinkled. Her breathing hitched as he removed his palm from over her mouth and skid it to her shoulders ever so slowly.
She felt his fingers touch her forehead as he moved them over the lines and softly whispered "I did not mean to scare you"
She eased but kept her eyes closed. He leaned in closer as he crushed her body beneath his, and grazing her cheek with the back of his hand he moved his lips over her ears as she spoke ever so softly "You look beautiful"
She blushed as she bit her lip. Well, this was certainly not the first comment she had received tonight but coming from him the same words had the power to turn the strings of her heart upside down.
She could feel him smile even with her eyes closed and that made her blush even deeper. How she wanted to run from there. She felt him nuzzle her ear as he whispered "So is my special drink and snack ready"
She flushed as she felt her heart may just burst out of embarrassment. She heard him chuckle as he wrapped his arms round her waist and slammed her body against his as he asked "So Do I stand a chance" That was when she pushed him and dashed out of the room saying it out loud "Huge one" Smiling she ran down the stairs as she whispered to herself "This marks the beginning of my story."
