MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television's new business head, Sneha Rajani, will focus on fiction shows to increase the Hindi general entertainment channel's market share.

Apart from big-ticket reality and non-fiction content, which Sony is identified with, Rajani's aim is to expand women viewership with interesting fiction shows.

"We will get big and progressive fiction shows that will make women viewers feel at home on Sony. Fiction is the foundation for any GEC and I am committed to work with some of the finest creative minds in the industry to bring alive fiction and fictional characters which Indian audiences, especially women, will love," Rajani said.

Rajani's first goal is to improve Sony's share and take it to the No. 3 position by the end of this year. The Hindi GEC space is led by Star Plus, with Colors and Zee TV following behind.

"I am not looking at the past and just trying to get our focus right. I am not looking at competetion as we are not going to copy what anyone else is doing. If we find a story appealing, we will use it. There is no agenda on selecting stories," said Rajani.

The 'fiction-focused' programming has kicked off with the launch of Bade Achhe Laggte Hai… Yeh Dharti, Yeh Nadiya, Yeh Rainna Aur Tum.

Produced by Balaji Telefilms, the show has premiered on 30 May and is airing Monday to Friday at the 10.30 pm band. Conceptualised and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Bade Acche Laggte Hai is the love story of a middle-aged couple. It traces the story of two strangers getting married and gradually falling in love.

Rajani said, "We are glad to have Balaji back on Sony. Bade Acche Laggte Hai is the first attempt in the direction of getting fiction back and I am very confident that the story and the character of Priya, played by Sakshi Tanwar, will bring a lot of women to the channel during primetime."

Sony will also open up its 7.30 pm band in July, while post Kaun Banega Crorepati, it will start fiction on the 9-10 pm band as well.

As of now, Sony will telecast the talent reality show Entertainment Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega from 6 June at the 9 pm band as a precursor to KBC in August.

Ohhh interesting...the Sony business head has changed?? Let's see if she does indeed bring in the much needed change and shot in the arm for Sony's beleaguered fiction line-up...and if she will give importance to anything apart from CID😆
