Introduction

My experience with Western Classical Music on guitar and performances of classical music as well as folk and jazz-rock in Germany made me feel that occidental music with its strong emphasis on harmonies is often lacking a beautiful development of melody.

My search for melody brought me to India, where for 10 years I devoted myself to study Indian Classical Music at university. I had the great opportunity to learn continuously from sitarmaestro Pandit Indranil Bhattacharya, the purity of whose immensely rich and beautiful melodic movement I strive to preserve while rendering a raga.

My aim and research is to combine and unify the Beauty of Harmony of the West with the Beauty of Melody of India.My deep involvement in this direction forms the centerpiece of my compositions and work, which created the music group Ragleela.

Ragleela participates also to a better understanding between the orient and the occident with its original, rich and surprising compositions. In a time where multiculturalism holds so much importance, the harmonious and daring music of Ragleela creates a bridge between these two cultures.

.....we love to fill halls, where people come to listen, as your listening-capacity constitutes the depth of our performance for you.

.....we enjoy a lot to play for small gatherings, like house-concerts for special family or friend-events, where we can play acoustic and we can give you the full spectrum of our instruments and of ourselves.

Sitarissimo
Concert of Indian Classical Music

Sitarissimo is the project of Uwe Neumann and E. Shankar to perform Indian Classical Music with emphasis on grooving rhythms and expressive melodies.
The compositions and improvisations portray their complicity and mastery of Indian Classical Music and also their background of occidental expressiveness and beat.

Uwe Neumann and E. Shankar have performed together Indian Classical but also World music and Jazz like at the OM-Festival in Ontario for summer solstice 1999, many concerts in Toronto and Montral, at the Yantra-nights, and Jazz with NoEMI (Nouvel Ensemble de Musique Improvise ) at L'Air du temps and other Jazz-venues.

E. Shankar has performed in many festivals in North America, England and Turkey with Kani Karacha, Hugh Marsh, Hassan El Hadi, Ekko and many others.

My dada Anando Gopal Das Baul and baba Vishvanath Das Baul with whom I played at least one hundred and one nights of music until sunrise on the fairs (melas) and pujas in Bengal, South-India and France, and from whom I learnt a lot.

My teacher of Sitar, Indranil Bhattacharya led me with all his patience for ten years into the wonderful depths of Indian classical music.

Further I'd like to thank Albert Mages, who first brought me as my guitar-teacher in my teens onto the stage and radio in Germany with the guitar-choir.

Last but not least I want to thank my parents for their life-giving and support without which so many things would not have been possible.

World & Jazz

I am always open to new professional projects as in the world of music we are all brothers since we speak the same universal language.

NoEMI at the Jazz-Festival in Quebec 1998

NoEMI is formed around the concept of improvised music of Francois Carrier, one of Canada's foremost Jazz-Saxophonists, in which we are all, masters of our instruments:
"JUST NOW", 100% ear and heart with loving respect of each other and the fundamental vibration.

The latest album of Franois Carrier and Uwe Neumann

This is the first (double) CD by Franois Carrier in Leo Records catalogue. "He is one of Qubec's (and Canada's) essential musical voices, a saxophonist who has combined commitment and discipline with intuition and inspiration to gradually realize an arresting musical vision, one that is compounded of free-jazz traditions and a compellingly personal melodic invention. On Happening, Carrier combines both long-standing and fresh musical partnerships with free improvisation and contrasting tonal systems to reach levels of sometimes startling immediacy" (Stuart Broomer).

=======================================

NoEMI
(Nouvel Ensemble de Musique Improvise) consists of:

Francois Carrier: Saxophone

Uwe Neumann: Sitar, Sansa

E. Shankar: Tabla

Listen to: NoEMI at the Jazz-Festival of Quebec 1998: Flying away
See: excerpt of Jazz-Festival of Montral 2000 : View 1 minute clip

=========================================

"D" for brother is a world of music. The two brothers (Dada =D) Monojit Dutta (Percussion) and Amit Dutta (Guitars) from Calcutta create world music of the finest.

"D" for brother at Kala-Mandir, Calcutta, India

In 1993 Uwe joined "D" for brother for the first time as guest musician for their album and since then appeared regular with them for many outstanding concerts at Kala-Mandir and Gorki-Sadan (Calcutta), Goethe-Institute (New Delhi)....
