Shruti found the food at Rain excellent

Rain Restaurant, Juhu, introduced its new menu in the first week of Sept.

The menu, designed by chefs Vicky Ratnani and Vikas Seth, is entirely continental. metro takes TV actress and hostess Shruti Seth to check out the new flavours.

Shruti made a smiling entry and as we settled in our seats, the menu was brought to us.

We opt for a Pan-seared Jumbo Lobster (Rs 745), Chilli Mustard Infused Grill Seared Chicken (Rs 425) and Basil and Black Pepper Chicken (Rs 425) and peach iced tea.

As we wait for the food, 27-year-old Shruti talks about herself. "I think destiny has been kind to me as I had never planned my career," she muses. "My first commercial was Clean n Clear, five years ago. After that I featured in several ads and then moved on to TV," she recalls.

She started her TV career with Geetanjali and Star Ek Gaane Anek on Sahara TV and is now playing a teenage witch in Shararat on Star Plus. "I have had kids rubbing their hands with mine trying to get some magic," she says of her Shararat experience.

As our food arrives, this Veera Desai Road resident continues. "After graduating from Xavier's I tried working at Taj Mahal hotel as a guest relations personnel. But I quit as I got sick of getting yelled at."

Conversation takes a backseat as we concentrate on the food. The Grill Seared Chicken is succulent and comes with a generous serving of soft mashed potatoes. The vegetables are crispy with a tinge of tanginess.

The Black Pepper Chicken is delicious and the lobster tastes scrumptious; the assortment of breads also go perfectly with the meal.

Leaning back with her peach iced tea, Shruti says, "From earning Rs 5,000 a month I must say I've come a long way."

We decide to end the evening with Brulee Mocha (Rs 215), a chocolate dessert that is not too sweet, is light and has no creamy aftertaste. As we leave, Shruti says, "The food is excellent."
