Getting into television is not easy

Says telly actor Jayashree Venketaramanan in conversation with AT

Shruti Jambhekar

More popularly known by her screen name Sarika in the soap Beendh Banunga... Ghodi Chaddhunga, the Delhi based Jayashree Venketaramanan was in Ahmedabad for the promotion of her show. She says,I always dreamt to be an actor.
Commenting on her role in the show,Jayashree says,Sarika is a small town girl who aspires to become a doctor but is very traditional and never wants to disappoint her family. She handles all household responsibilities and is still able to focus upon her ambitions. Having said that,Jayshree feels that the one important similarity she finds in her onscreen character and her real self is sincerity to fulfill dreams!
Jayashree landed in tinseltown three years back. She said,I always wanted to be in Mumbai. It was since the age of 13 that the acting bug bit me.I come from a Tamil family so it was tough call asking my parents to go ahead with my decision. My family is full of doctors, engineers and chess players. So I was worried how would I talk of acting amidst such intelligent people in my family. But Jayashrees parents agreed to let her go provided she finished her education. With a graduation in Political Science (Honors) and learning classical dance Jayashree headed for Mum with a few commercials in her kitty.Getting into television wasnt so easy after all.For three years,I was giving five-six auditions a day and there was a point I almost gave it up and decided to go back to Delhi. My parents supported me financially and emotionally during this time. It is only when she decided to pack her bags and go back to Delhi that she received a call from the producers of Beendh Banunga... and the rest is history.A family oriented girl,Jayshree wants to be called the son of her family and support them forever.
She also considers herself lucky to be working in an ensemble cast comprising of Himani Shivpuri,Nausheen Ali Sardar and Anuj Thakur. They are extremely supportive, says Jayashree.Jayashree is keen on a career in films but as of now,I want to focus on this show. In her free time, she loves to,read and watch movies. And she loved coming to Ahmedabad,It is such a lovely city! I feel great to be here and relish the lovely Gujarati thali, she says as she signs off.
