Does Dum Maaro Dum Have Box-Office Dum?

Abhishek Bachchan is going through the worst phase of his career as all of the actor's last three releases ' Raavan, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey and Game ' have been disasters at the box-office. Now, the thought on everyone's minds is whether Abhishek's next film, Dum Maaro Dum, will take even a decent start at the box-office windows.

People who disagree say that 'Dum Maaro Dum' will take a good start because the remix of the song, Dum Maaro Dum, picturised on Deepika Padukone, has become really popular with the youth. The other school of thought says that any Abhishek Bachchan-starrer cannot be expected to take a good start at all.

I think smoking is injurious to health. And logon ko dum nahi marna chahiye. If you ask me about Deepika's remix song, i think my fart sounds much better.

One question that Abhishek is constantly being asked is about the bold lyrics of 'Dum Maaro Dum' title track.

AB Jr.'s reaction was, "We have 1.20 billion people in India and all can't like the song. But the fact it is topping all radio charts and playing everywhere including night clubs means the youth have connected and loved the track. It's doing extremely well and I am very happy with response."

Detractors of the sizzling, hot item song picturised on Deepika Padukone have been proved wrong. It turns out that the song is tracking extremely well with today's generation, especially in the age group of 16-25 years.

The research figures, done by Ormax Media, an entertainment research company, reveal that the unaided awareness of the film Dum Maaro Dum, before the song was launched was below 5% and when the song was launched, in Nagpur, the unaided awareness jumped by 240%, to 17% and currently, the unaided awareness rides high at 75%.(Tees maar khan was only 73% ,check BOI home page)

Even the interest and desirability to watch the film was below 10% before the song's launch, and it has jumped by 170% to 27%, and currently rides on 35%.

It definitely proves that the item song has given that extra push to the film, as seems to be the trend nowadays. A sizzling hot Deepika, gyrating to edgy moves and mouthing edgier lyrics only adds to the excitement.

Dum Maaro Dum ' The Dark Horse??

We have a number of films that have appeared in our track scheduled for release in April. The current values of the FilmTrac parameters of some films show movement. Three movies show some promise. They are 3 Thay Bhai, Thank You and Dum Maaro Dum. All three show different FilmTrac characteristics. Thank You has a low SR (7.5) but high DPSOWE (31.1 per cent). Hence the film can open poorly on Friday but pick up on Saturday and Sunday. But, IPL 4 will determine the movement.

3 Thay Bhai has a high SR (15.6 per cent) but low DPS( 6.7 per cent) but has about a week to show traction. IPL or no IPL the first week end will be low and steady. Hence, we expect a lower than average turnout for this film. Dum Maaro Dum has a SR of 14.5 per cent and a DPSOWE of 5.4 per cent but it has another two weeks before release. With these numbers we expect Dum Maaro Dum to do much better than either Thank You or 3 Thay Bhai.

Foresight
Films that have a potential but have not realised their value at the box-office would do well to test their films and tweak their promotions and the film to improve the TV eye balls. It is not in the interest of the producers to forget the movies once they get mauled at the box-office. If adequate research on the films are made three to four months before, it will greatly help the producers improve their ROI.

Of the films in April, Dum Maaro Dum will bring some smiles. The other movies have a BoV of less than Rs 16 crore.

I really hope this film works, atleast for Rana.

Unlike other abhishek movies which showed no spark in promos it self I think Dum Maro Dum has potential......the songs are good.....story line also looks good....and there is interesting line up of actors in the movie....I m looking forward for the movie and not only abhishek but all the actors in the movie need a hit.....so I just hope the movie does well..........

Hopefully it'll be a hit. It's really interesting by look of the promos! Besides, Abhishek has a small role in this movie. I'm totally looking forward to Rana and Prateik's performance in this movie!
