India's rich and glorious civilization is mirrored in its innumerable festivals.
These festivals mark the seasons which signal to man the time for work and thetime for relaxation
The commencement of the agricultural cycle with sowing in spring, and its culmination with the harvesting of the golden grain.

The harvest festival of Baisakhi is celebrated with pomp and gaiety across the vibrant state of Punjab.
It falls on the first day of the Indian calendar month, Vaishakh, which is usually April 13.But after almost 36 years or so it falls on 14th as in year 2011.
It is also the anniversary of the creation of the Khalsa Panth. History has recorded the execution of Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth guru of the Sikhs, by the Mughals, on November 11, 1675. In revolt against this in justice, his son Guru Govind Singh, who was also the tenth guru, was compelled to take up arms.
Thus Khalsa Path was born on 13th April 1699 ,and guruji made khalsa to protect the weak and needy regardless of cast religion or social status.
Apart from Punjab various regions have their own festivities for this day.
In the hill state of Himachal, Baisakhi comes on a flood tide of peach blossom, with dazzling white dog roses rushing in torrents down the hillsides and somber rhododendrons suddenly turning a flamboyant red. People flock to the temple dedicated to Goddess Jwalamukhi and take a holy dip in the neighboring hot springs
In Assam, it coincides with the Goru Bihu or cattle festival when cattle are bathed, anointed with turmeric paste and decorated with flowers, before being treated to a repast of jaggery and brinjal.
In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, it's New Year time too.
The Kerala New Year is conspicuous for an exchange of gifts and for alms-giving, while in Tamil Nadu, ceremonial processions are taken out, with richly caparisoned elephants swinging along to the beat of drums.
So folks Lets all enjoy this auspicious day and celebrate life.....
