CHAPTER 8
Present
The waves knocked Geet against a rock as her face came out of the water but she was unconscious. She wasn't struggling, she was numb. She was dying.
The next thing she knew, she was lying on the shore on her stomach vomiting. She opened her eyes and saw Yash and Meera. She tried to move but she was too weak. She winced in pain as she felt her forehead bleed. She collapsed.
Meera and Yash rushed her to the hospital as she lay unconscious bleeding profusely.
Geet was wincing in pain as she continuously called out his name—Maan.

Past
Maan asked Geet if he could turn on the car stereo and Geet smiled as she replied "as you wish"
And you're Daddy's Little Girl
Geet gulped as the song played. Tears were welling up in her eyes but she refused to shed them.
You're the end of the rainbow
My Pot of Gold
You're Daddy's Little Girl to have and hold
A precious gem is what you are
You're Mommy's Bright and shining star.
Geet looked out of window and brought her hand to her eyes as she wiped away the tear that formed in the back of her eye.
You're sugar
You're spice
You're everything nice
and you're Daddy's Little Girl.
Geet dug her nails in her palm as with every word of the song memories flashed in front of her. she missed him so much. There was a time when these were the same memories that brought a smile on her face and now the only thing that she felt remembering them was yearning--yearning for her father to come back, yearning for those good old days to come back. This was the song her father would sing to her or rather shriek and she would shut her ears with her hands, begging him to stop the torture. Ironically, she could give up anything, even her life, to hear the same shrieking which at once was unbearable to her.
Maan glanced at her and noticed her discomfort. Something told him it was because of the song, he immediately took the CD out. He had met her just two days back but there was no way whatsoever he could see tears in those doe like innocent eyes. She was a kid, but the way she talked, the way her eyes spoke, the way she hid her emotions—she seemed way stronger and mature for her age. Was it natural or was it imposed upon her by circumstances, he didn't know but he knew one thing for certain— though she was one strong headed girl she needed to be saved, that is, only if she would let go of the bottled emotions she had confined inside of her.
Geet knew why he did that but for the first time she didn't mind that someone had read through her weakness.
She thanked him as she said "that was the song dad would sing me to sleep"
She chuckled as she said "he always ended up killing the slightest traces of sleep by singing. He knew he was a bad singer but still not a single day would pass by with him not torturing my ears"
"He loved you a lot" Maan stated as he looked at her. He knew may be by talking about her father he was hurting her and, making it even difficult for her but by not letting out her emotions she was going to a point of no return.
"Yes . . . he did love me a lot . . . a lot" Geet said as she suppressed her tears.
"if we sit by ourselves and bottle up our emotions they only hurt us more. Try letting go, trust me you'll feel better" Maan replied sincerely. He wanted to help her. She agrees or not, she needed help.
"Can we please not talk about it?" Geet requested.
"Whenever you want to talk, remember you can tell me" Maan knew there was no point forcing her into talking. He had to make her comfortable first and he needed her to trust him. And the first step to achieve her trust would be being her friend.
"I will . . . thank you" Geet smiled as she looked at him. And by the look in his eyes, for fraction of a second she wanted to let go, and just blurt out whatever she had been holding since the past three months but then she couldn't. She could never talk about it, she even feared to think about it leave alone talking. She wasn't a superstitious girl but in times as such when one feels that everything is falling apart, they do anything to save their crumbling world. And that was the case with her. Keeping all logic, all rationale aside, she feared if she would even think on those lines something of the sort would happen. Everyone in the family had accepted the bitter truth but something in her didn't want to. Maybe her desire, hope, longing to go back in time when her father was there with her, for her, was not letting her move on but come to think of it, she wasn't wrong. A girl who for the past fourteen years had lived her life in the loving embrace of her father, who had always depended upon on her father for everything, if from that girl someone or something snatches her father away, it's not that easy to accept. Even though may be somewhere she knew the truth but isn't it better to live in denial, to live in an imaginary world where there is at least hope rather than dying every living moment of the day just trying to accept the reality. But she needed to accept, if not now then some day she would have to accept it, whether she liked it or not. She had no option she had to just live with it but she just didn't want to.
*******
Present
Though Maan was out of danger but due to his spinal injury he was under spinal shock. The doctors assured The Khurana family that it was temporary and would last only for 24-48 hours but he needed proper medical care.
If everyone was happy listening to the news that Maan was out of danger, there was however one person who was not at all pleased with the news. Naintara was pissed beyond limits when dev informed her about Maan's well being. Since the time she'd heard of the crash all she wished was direst things should happen with Maan. She hated him more than she loved herself.
Maan was lying on the hospital bed as he called out her name in his unconscious self—Geet.
