Chapter Thirteen
The Ladoo and Chuha Wala Kissa
Naku had tried to avoid Dutta as much as she could, because she clearly had no explantaion to give him for the way she'd behaved two nights before, in fact she couldn't even explain to herself why she had reacted like that when she were asked about Supriya....maybe it was the fact that Dutta had acknowledged that Supriya was pretty and those words just stood out from the rest, as if they were meant to be taunting her, she thought to herself, while she was preparing the ladoo's in the kitchen to offer Bappa for the morning prayers, and in her mind planned her day that she was to go to the market as usual and purchase the groceries... she sighed to herself while moving her hair out of her way with the back of her hand, and trying to watch the tea at the same time. She knew Saab was going to be up soon, so she wanted to be out of the house beforehand, she'd managed to avoid him for two days, and she knew this couldn't last but she had intended on making that period just that little bit longer, it kept her safe from explaining herself to him.
As Naku had finished her prayers before Bappa, done her aarti and gave toothbati, she'd offered the five ladoo's in a tray and left them for him as she had always done, but since the past couple of days the ladoo's seemed to be going missing, at first she thought nothing of it, but than it had carried on. So she decided to ask Baji if he knew anything, but Baji had assured Naku that it must have been mice around the house that had stolen the ladoo, and he told her not to worry as he'll set up traps around the house soon. Nakusha had got scared stiff at the name of mice knowing her fear of the little creatures, so she became alert whenever she were around the house especially at night, she tried to go sleep before the house went silent just in case there were any mice lurking around so she'd be asleep before she could spot any.
She'd given Ayi Sahib her tea in her room, who'd asked her if Dutta was awake, and she nodded her head from left to right silently saying no, and relieved at the same time secretly, as she left to go back to the kitchen.
She was now making her way to Baji's room to give him tea, as he was usually up early these days, and went into his room without knocking. Lo Baji tumhari chai she said, as she put it down and saw Baji smiling at her in a thank you way, while he was still buttoning up his shirt. As she walked back to her room to get ready to go to the market, she noticed the ladoo's missing again, when she acted on her reflexes and ran straight back to Baji's room and screamed Baaaa...jiiii in two syllables in a high pitched voice taking Baji by surprise, who was about to take a big bite into a ladoo in his hand with the cup of tea in his other hand, but than dropped it flat to the floor when he'd heard Naku's scream....
Baji, who had now been caught red handed by Naku had began stuttering with no words coming from his mouth, and Naku who had indeed realised the size of the mice she had been keeping an eye out for was none other than Baji....
Baji tum....tum Bappa ke ladoo chura te ho...was all Naku could ask, shocked, when Baji quickly placed his tea cup down and thought of an excuse...arre nahin re Naku....main...main...maine ladoo churaye nahin, woh kya hain na...ke..er..woh...haan he said shouting slightly talking happily that he'd found an excuse while he had one hand behind his head in tension and carried on...woh....maine socha ke isse pehle ke chuha mere ladoo tak...er mera matlab hain ke Bappa ke ladoo tak pohanch jaye to maine socha ke main.ch pehle khaa leta hai, he said finishing lamely knowing Naku wasn't buying it, as Naku looked appalled at Baji she walked past the now broken ladoo on the floor and the past the table, and she told him if you wanted to eat ladoo you could have just told me I would have just made extra she said, but why did you have to steal Bappa's ladoo she asked, when Baji who refused to give up said ...nahin Naku mera yakeen kar, maine chuhe se bachane keliye hi Bappa ke ladoo khaye...aur waise bhi he said growing a litlle more confident tuhi to bolti hai ke bhagwan sab mein hai...hain na...to tu yeh samajh ke tere ladoo mere roop mein Bappa ne hi khaliye ho, he said feeling proud of his speech, thinking Naku would too buy it. When Naku just carried on saying nahin Baji iska matlab yeh hai ke agar tumhari jaga she pointed at him agar woh chuhe ladoo ko khaye to phir woh bhi to Bappa ne hi khaye, hain na she questioned back smartly.
Dutta knew that Naku was avoiding him, he knew that she needed time to figure out whatever reason she was angry with him for, but than he had deliberately given her two days, he thought to himself as he clicked the barrel in place in his revolver, and placed it in his trousers, underneath his dark kurta, and made his way down to where she would be, he knew she was trying her best to avoid him and that's why she had been leaving early, even Kaka had been coming a little earlier to give her a ride to the market, she indeed had effect on people, he had seen her a couple of times giving him lists of stuff to buy and what to eat in order to keep his health well, meri Ayi yeh bolti hai... meri Ayi woh bolti hai.... he'd heard her say when his car had driven past their rikshaw, he'd often slow down whenever he saw them ahead of them just out of curiosity to hear if she was same talkative Naku with everyone, which he had figured that she was, she never really noticed Dutta go past, or even slow down near them.
When Dutta looked over from his balcony to see if Naku was at the mandir, he saw her panick and run in the direction of Baji's room, which for some strange reason made him panick too, but than Dutta knew how to keep his cool, he quickly tried to make his way there too, to see what it was she needed to tell Baji but not him, yes he'd noticed Baji and Naku's friendship growing day by day, this didn't bother him none, but than there were times when they were extremely close...like friends...but than at first when Baji would interact with Naku she would feel uncomfortable, he could tell, but these days it's like she just knew that it's only Baji and his playful nature, and didn't hesitate much anymore at the jokes he cracked with her, in fact it seemed like she opened up alot more around him, and the fact that she hadn't bothered Dutta since the past two days, bothered him more, and more over she was giving Baji tea before him, and since when did Baji start waking up early, Dutta knew there was some situation going on in the house with Naku's ladoo's that she offered to her so called Bappa that seemed to go missing, and Baji gave her some story about mice stealing them, Dutta smirked to himself thinking mice in my house not a chance, hmmm maybe it was Kala Tai thought Dutta, he knew she was abit cunning in the sense of making other people a joke, and she would often do things that people could class her as a physco, but than Dutta had kept quiet 'cause he found it kind of cute the way Naku had suddenly become alert around the house because Baji the genius at being a world class idiot had told her it was mice, which had terrified the poor girl to her wits.
As Baji finally confessed to Naku that he made a mistake, but the truth was that he didn't know that it were for Bappa only, he told her how he'd woken up early one of these days and was starving and when he went past the mandir he thought the ladoo to be prasad for anyone, and than he began doing the same everyday, but than soon Naku made it aware that she thought someone was stealing the ladoo, and he felt embarassed to admit that he'd unintentionally stolen them, so gave her the excuse of mice, and he told her how today was his last day to eat the ladoo and wasn't planning on doing it again he said aye shapath Naku he convinced pinching his throat with his thumb and forefinger. Main to aaj do chaar chuhe bhi kareed ne wala tha..aur socha ke ek pinjre mein daal kar tujhe dikha dega aur tu mera yakeen karlegi, aur sochegi ke sach mein chuho ne hi tere Bappa ke ladoo khaye, he told her, aur kal se main tere ladoo khaana band kar deta, he said telling her how much of a well thought out plan he'd had.
Naku had just nodded her head at him from side to side, thinking of course it could have only be Baji, looking at the mess on the floor he'd made of the ladoo's, chalo koi baat nahin she said tune apni galati to maan li hai yahi sabse badi baat hai, she said, abh mein isse saaf kar deti hai, lekin pehle isse khaa lene deti hoon.....as the words came out of her mouth she froze in her tracks and stared at the shocking discovery before her, and all she could do was scream and jump around like she were dancing on burning coals and ran to Baji and grabbed his shirt that he'd just neated out after much effort and hid behind him whilst almost deafening him with her screams.....
aaarrrrgghhh....aahhg....Bajjiiiii....Bajjjjiiiiii......aahhgg...Baji...woh...woh...woh.....chuhaaaaaaa, she yelled, when Baji saw what she had saw a little grey mouse which must have been deaf 'cause it didn't seem to have reacted to her screaming and carried on enjoying the fallen ladoo on the floor...when suddenly reality hit Baji who began screaming too...aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....Nakuuuuuuuuuuu.......mujhe bachalo Naku....mujhe bachalo...he said tugging onto Naku from behind who was now shocked at Baji rather than the mouse, and at the same time trying to get her place back behind Baji, Baji tum...tum kya kar rahe ho usse baghau yahan se...kuch karo....mujhe chuhe se bohut darr lagta hai Baji...she quickly said, arre tere se zyaada mujhe chuho se darr lagta, he said putting Naku back in front of him, and than suddenly they realised that the mouse was nowhere to be seen when they both clinged onto each other almost hugging one another like they were left in some haunted house and were hunted by a ghost, both their eyes searched the room, when Baji broke the silence and said eehh Naku...kya rahi hai tu....when Naku replied she weren't doing anything, they looked down to where Baji had felt something warm, furry and sharp, he saw the little mouse near his feet when they both screamed again and Naku got herself released from Baji's grip and jumped onto the bed and Baji had followed and begged Naku not to let go of him, they were holding each other in a brace with there cheeks were touching but they didn't notice as they looked around the room to see where it was.....
As the screams grew louder Dutta had started pacing towards Baji's room faster, making him think some foe had probably entered the house and that's why Naku's screams were uncontrollable, but than Baji was screaming too, and that didn't seem like Baji, thought Dutta making him panick more, it must be a seriously vicious attack by someone he thought as he took out his gun ready to take a shot, when he entered Baji's room Dutta was absolutely speechless at what he saw.........
Naku and Baji were literally hugging each other....but were standing on the bed....aargghh Bhau goli matt chalana Bhau main hoon Bhau, .....Baji, he said foolishly raising his hands in the air, haan woh to mujhe bhi dikhaye deraha hai, lekin tum dono kar kya rahe ho he said very confused, while still pointing the gun towards them unknowingly. When Baji had replied quickly Bhau hume bachalo Bhau, lekin kisse..kaun hai yahan aur Naku tu wahan kya rahi hai, aur Baji se aise kyun chipki huwi hai he questioned wondering what the hell is wrong with them, chalo pehle tum dono neeche uttaron, aur mujhe saari baat batao said Dutta.
When Baji had refused to get down and Naku who wanted to let go of Baji but couldn't due to her fear, when suddenly she'd spotted the mouse again and began murmuring in fear while pointing at it, making Dutta understand the reason for all the havoc when he saw the tiny mouse, and pulled out his gun again while a shocked Baji and Naku just looked on.....Naku could only scream Saab trying to tell him not to shoot, and Baji who was telling Dutta where to shoot but at the same time was taken back by the fact that Dutta had pulled a gun on a mouse, but than the guy didn't know anything else thought Baji, it seemed like the mouse had made a quick escape, but the scared duo still remained stiff on the bed, as a cool and laid back Dutta stared at them and made his way towards them telling them to get off, when they both refused.
Darr ne koi zaroorat nahin woh chala gaya, abh tum Baji chod sakti ho he said not looking directly at Naku with his hands now behind his back...agar tum chaho to...he added. As he looked at Naku she seemed to be letting go of Baji now and was clearing the palm of her hand where the few crumbs of the ladoo were stuck, but Dutta had thought that maybe she'd injured herself in all the chaotic running the pair of them were doing, and so ended up asking her after all, er...inn sab mein tujhe kahin chott to nahin aaye na he said looking at Naku, arre nahin Bhau mein bilkul mast hain..ho.. said Baji not realising that Dutta was asking Naku.
When Naku hadn't got down, Dutta had offered her his hand and said chal aaja....while Naku just stared, but than slowly gave her his hand, and Dutta tightened his grip on hers and helped her down, just when she saw the mouse again....aaarrgghhSaaaab woh abhi bhi yahi hai she screamed grabbing a fist full of material from his kurta in both her hands, not letting Dutta do anything who was shocked at how close she was clinging onto him and how scared she was of a tiny little thing Dutta was amazed. Baji was also panicking but his words didn't seem to reach Dutta's ears.
Naku said Dutta cooly, tu mere pe bharosa karti hai na, he said putting one hand around her waistline securely, when she nodded in a yes somewhere near his chest where she was hiding her face, to chal mere saath he said as he were guiding her out of the room, and finding the whole situation funny, when he heard Baji scream out Bhau mujhe bhi bachalo Bhauuuuu.....!!!!! His voice echoed in the hallway but Dutta didn't pay any attention to Baji's cries, as he led her out he could now feel her narrow waist between his palm which was cupping her hip bone, and he suddenly felt very tempted to slip his hand under her kameez through her slit on the side which was only a few inches away from his fingers just so he could feel what her skin felt like under the material, when all of a sudden he came back to his senses thinking what the hell was wrong with him and instead decided to make any little conversation with her just to keep his mind off such thoughts, and than told her abh tum khatre se bahar ho, he said letting go of her and watching her open her tightly closed eyes, and quickly say shukriyan Saab, while she made a run for it......again he thought, but than he called her from behind and said....Naku.....aaj hum bahar jaa rahe hai, woh Ayi Sahib ne kaha hai ke Supriya ko leke kuch gehene aur kapro ki kareed dari karni hai, aur tum hamare saath chal rahi ho...to tayar rehna...he ordered as he left for his room.
Now Naku didn't know what was worse what had happened two days ago, or what just happened two minutes ago....or she thought was about to happen when they go shopping with that dian...churail, she cursed, and thought she'd better wait around outside to tell Kaka she had other plans today, so he could attend to other people needing his services.
Great she thought...I wonder what happens today, she sighed as she looked up at the ceiling as though she were looking to God for help.
Roops was getting up and ready for college, but when she heard that her Bhau had told Naku that they were going shopping today, she decided to take the day off, and than this way she would also get to spend some time with Baji, she thought exciting herself at the thought of being around him. And she won't have to endure that idiot Rahul either, who was beginning to get more and more irritating as each passing day, just thinking about him made her cringe. Rahul was the so called heartthrob of her college, a flirtatious prick morelike she thought as she shook her head in a pathetic type of way whilst rolling her eyes to one side thinking about him. She didn't understand what all the girls saw in him, there wasn't a single girl he hadn't eyed, but all of a sudden Rahul for some strange reason had taken a new liking in Roop recently, he'd tried to woo her in many different ways, but with no luck, he even gifted her some short skimpy dress which barely had anything on it, thinking she'd accept it just because it was designer. But who cares thought Roop he didn't matter, it was only ever Baji for her, she knew that Baji had recently become very close with Naku, but than she didn't mind, not even the jokes Baji would crack about him and Naku dating or liking each other and all, she knew Naku wasn't thay type of girl, and she even knew that Baji didn't really see her that way, but there were certain things that Baji liked about Naku, which made it easier for Roop to pick up on without making it obvious where she learnt any of it from, and since Naku had arrived Baji seemed to be paying more interest in her, and taking more notice in whatever it was she was doing, god she was madly in love with the guy, she thought to herself as she laid back in bed to get some extra sleep, and than get ready a little later for the shopping spree.
It's bit of a wierd one I know, but just try to enjoy for the moment, and trust me everything is happening with reason.
Okay so I know most of you have gone from liking Roopa Tai to absolutely hating her with a vengeance, but trust me guys I promised you that Roopa Tai won't affect tasha's love story even if she was kept alive, you'll see soon.
And Yuvi, this is for you👏👍🏼👏, and you know you might be on the right track with you're latest theory, lol, we'll just have to wait and see what you come up with next.😆
