Rumours are doing rounds in Kollywood that Vikram who was to play the title role of Raja Raja Chola in Maniratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan', is likely to be replaced by Surya.

It appears that Surya got in touch with Maniratnam, with whom he had earlier done 'Aaydha Ezhuthu', and expressed his wish to play the role the for which ace director had Vikram in his mind.

Mani is now said to be having second thoughts about casting Vikram as their trilingual 'Raavan' faced colossal failure last year. Sources close to the director say that he now feels that it's too early for him to re-align with Vikram again.

This might just make him change his mind and sign up Surya for the title role, it is strongly rumoured, considering the fact that Surya enjoys huge popularity in Andhra as well.

🤣🤣Movies news are much more masale daar than the movie itsellf🤣🤣

With Mahesh Babu confirming his spot and Arya catching up with Mani Ratnam to ensure his place in Ponniyin Selvan alongside Vijay tinsel town does have some 'solid' performances to look forward to, but more than that the news of star heroes Surya and Vikram dropping out of the project is creating hot waves amongst Kollwood cinema goers.

It is known that both Surya and Vikram are busy bees with some real interesting projects lying ahead. Surya is gearing up for his mega offering 7aam Arivu, portraying a circus artist while Vikram will once again prove why he is one of the 'madly talented' stars in Kollywood playing a mentally challenged character for director Vijay's tentatively titled film Pitha(earlier Deiva Magan).

Vikram tried to break fresh grounds recently by committing to Mani Ratnam's Raavanan, being applauded for his stunning performance for which he worked it out for an entire year. Even though he was expected to repay his gratitude to Mani with Ponniyin Selvan things dint turn out as expected. We hear that when Mani narrated the script to Vikram he found the role not that demanding and felt it wasn't wise to take a step forward to don a character regarded inferior in comparison to other ones by the actor. Surya on the other hand has kept away and is strongly concentrating with his ball jugglery and other acrobatic stunts. He will be performing the stunts live at the 7aam Arivu audio launch to be held on March 28th.

Ponniyin Selvan aside Surya fans do have some real surprises in store with the 7aam Arivu audio launch function followed by the movie release while Vikram fans can expect yet another stellar performance from 'Chiyaan' in Pitha.
