I don't really know where the fair skin bias in indian culture, really comes from. It could be from when it was part of the British empire. But personally I think its because light-skinned people make a minority in India, so its deemed exotic. Odd but you have the filp side in western counties like the UK, An US where white people (boys and girls) are constantly using fake tan to make themselves darker, an pale white skin is almost as undesirable as dusky skin is in India.
I really can't understand why people seem to despise dark-skinned individuals so much in Indian societies though, that they go to the extent of beating, ridiculing on a daily basis and refusing in some cases to show any affection to their own children.
In the case of Shakti like I said in another post, people really ought to show him sum youtube videos of rihanna and beyonce, and then be told that these two black not white women have about two billion drooling at the bit male fans. I would love to see shaktis reaction to that fact. Personally I think shakti is like a parrot who just harps on his parents beliefs. Cos didn't have a cast bias? I wonder where this bias went when he married arushi?

Its a very important topic. It is a beleive in indian society that fair skin is superior than darker skin and it is very unfortunate. The way girls are scrutinized and selected based on their complexion for marraige is horendous. It is very unfortunate that women jas to go through this kind of stigma in India in the 21st century.

Things have changed in America in the course of centuries and ppl have mostly overcome the haneous crimes as racism ( its still present in many states ). I do not think ppl here are judged based on their complexion. Infact brown skin tone is very much liked here and welcomed. I am personally a very fair complexioned person but not as fair as my caucasian husband. My point is complexion should not matter in this world.It should be a person's inner qualities and personality. I have numerous caucasian friend's who envy my complexion. They want to go 2 shades lighter. i think its just the inferior mentality of ppl in the subcontinent who believes and acts on it.

I am really disgusted the way children are made to work in houses as labor forces just because they are dark skinned.

Things needs to change.
