Amazing- u may want to add in your post that the time of this movement was over 100- 150 years ago. Yes, I got pulled into the story of indentured labor with respect to the Tamils in Sri Lanka and Malaysia in the 1980s with the escalating trouble in that paradise island. They were "indentured" to work in the tea estates there- all part of the grand colonial powers. And sadly, the present has to deal with issues created 100 plus years ago.

How the world  has changed & shrunk !
In olden times poor people had to leave home shores to make livelihood.
There was no control on leaving the country perhaps except poor means & hazards of  travel , reluctance to leave familiar home environment , fear of the place & lack of communication with home .
Even now many go out to make life better .But can still remain in touch with their families like being in another town . Can watch the same TV programs & discuss like sitting  at the same table .
History is quite interesting
