Continuation of Chapter 3

--scene change: in the living room--

'Kahan hain Nivi?' Divya thought to herself. 'Ek minute keh kar dus minute laaga liye.' Divya started to think about what she had witnessed in Nivi and Viren's bedroom. The closeness between the two. It stirred up some feelings in her. Divya didn't understand what the feelings where until her mind flashed back to what had just happened in Nivi and Viren's room and then she began to think of her shuhaag raat with Sid.

--flashback: four months ago/ Siddarth and Divya's shuhaag raat--

Divya walked into Siddarth's room which from this day on was her room too. She looked around at all the candles and roses. She gasped as she saw the beautiful way the bed was decorated. Red rose petals all over the bed and Siddarth and Divya written using yellow rose petals. She shifted the petals a little bit in order to be able to sit down on the bed without ruining the decorations so Siddarth could see it for himself when he came in.

Divya sat down on the bed and covered her face using her wedding dupatta. She waited in anticipation as she thought to herself 'Siddarth mujh se pyaar nahin karta hain. Toh phir kyun mein aisey intezaar kar rahi hoon?' but a voice in her head told her because this is what suhaagans do. Just than the door opened and Viren pushed Siddarth into the room. Viren smiled looking towards Divya. Viren then turned and said to Sid 'Aap ki patni aap ka intezaar kar rahi hai.' and closed the door as he left.

Siddarth looked around the room and look uneasily at Divya. There was something in his eyes that Divya could not recognize for a moment. She knew it wasn't love but what was it? Pity' that's what she saw in his eyes and a tear fell from her eye but Siddarth could not see as her face was still covered. He came towards her and said "Mein refresh ho kar aata hoon." and left for the bathroom. Divya unveiled her face and watched Siddarth leave,

She waited and waited for him to return until she fell asleep. It was hard for her to sleep still in her shaadi joda and she kept tossing and turning the whole night through. She woke up to and looked at the clock across the room to see it was 7AM already. She looked at the bed and all the petals were messed up and on the floor but Siddarth was no where in sight. She got off the bed and looked around only to find pillows and a blanket on the sofa and it hit her hard that Siddarth has slept on the sofa on their wedding night.

Divya got ready and came down to the kitchen to make breakfast as Hemleta taught Divya that it was the nayi bahu's job to make breakfast for her susraal especially during her first day there. Divya was nervous about making breakfast by herself but she was excited to be able to cook all by herself for her in laws. But when Divya went into the kitchen, she saw that breakfast was already made just being prepared to be served. She was bothered by this as she was taught that it's the new bride's job to make breakfast for her family but here all the workers had done her work for her already. She asked if any of the workers needed help but everyone would refuse saying "Nahin bahu rani, hum taaiyaar kar rahay hain."

Chanchal entered the kitchen and asked what was taking the servants this long to put breakfast on the table when she saw Divya standing there. She asked Divya why she was in the kitchen and not outside like everyone else when Divya said that she wanted to make breakfast herself today but the workers had already cooked. Chancal looked at Divya and said, "Humare ghar main aisey koi reethi rivaaj nahin hain. Yahan bahut saarey naukaar hain jo tumharey ghar main nahin thay isse liye tumko koi kaam nahin karna parey ga jaisey uss ghar main karna parta tha."

Divya looked at Chancal and put on a fake smile and walked into the living room where everyone else was waiting. She looked around but neither Sid nor Viren were anywhere in sight. Divya excused herself and went to search for the guys when she found them standing outside and talking. Viren was going on about how beautifully the wedding was done while Sid was just standing there not saying much. Divya could feel the wall Sid had built up and she knew that whatever he did, he would just try to stay away from the topic of her and their marriage and it brought tears to her eyes.

--flashback ends--

Divya realized that she had never been as close to Sid as Nivi and Viren were just a few moments ago. It's been over four months since she's been married and Sid still stands two feet away from her when pictures are taken of them together. Tears shed from her eyes as she saw Nivi come down the stairs. Divya wiped away her eyes and looked at her little sister who was blushing as she came down the stair.

"Mrs. Nivedita Viren Sood, kya hua? Itna time kyun lagaya ?" Divya asked Nivi who began to blush even more. Divya looked at her younger sister and couldn't help but smile. Nivi seemed so happy and Divya wished she could be as happy as her sister. Then she remembered the argument with her mom from earlier in the day. Divya couldn't help but feel that maybe Hemleta was trying to keep her and Nivi apart. But she didn't understand why. 'Nivi aisi nahin hai, jaisey mummy keh rahi thi.' Divya thought to herself.

Divya and Nivi left to the market and as they were getting into the Sood car, Divya could see Hemleta standing by the window looking down at them. Divya turned her face and looked to Nivi and smile. "Chale?" Divya asked and Nivi smiled.

--scene change: Sood Enterprises Main Office--

Viren looked around but couldn't find the file anywhere. He searched through all the drawers and all the shelves on the bookshelf but it seemed like the file had disappeared. 'Kahan gayi woh file?' Viren thought to himself. Just then Jawahar entered the office. Viren stopped dead in his tracks and just stood there.

"Viren, tum yahan?" Jawahar asked. Jawahar looked at his son who seemed nervous about something. "Kya hua?"

Viren looked at his father and all the pain in Bhupat's eyes and all the pain in Naintara's eyes came in front of his eyes. "Kuch nahin, Sirf yeh kehney aaya tha, mudh dekhayi aaj raat hai toh aap ghar jaldi aajayiega." Viren said and walked away. Jawahar was about to call out to Viren but he had left already.

'Meray dad. Meray dad ney yeh sab kiya ? Itna dard. Itna ghum. Yeh sab key peechey sirf mom aur dad hain. Lekin kahan dhoondo uss file ko.' Viren thought to himself as he walked out of his dad's office. He knew that only he could bring forth the truth and only he could make everything right. He had to. This was his duty as a husband. This was his duty as a damaad. 'Jisko apna dushmaan soocha tha jab mein Shimla aaya, woh hi aaj mera aapna paarivar banchuka hai.' Viren thought.

Viren got into the car and started driving back to the khhoti when he saw Divya and Nivedita standing in front of an outdoors market. 'Yeh dono yahan?' Viren thought. He parked the car and went to the store where Divya and Nivi were. Viren stood behind Nivi and cleared his throat. Shocked, Nivi quickly turned around to see Viren.

"Tum yahan?" Viren asked Nivi. "Meine soocha tha tum dono koi shopping center jaa rahey thay. Lekin tum yahan kaisey?"

Divya butt in and said "Kyun ki Shimla ke best kangan yahan miltey hain. Aur mein chaati hoon aaj mein apni behein ko pyaar se saajaao."

Viren looked at Nivi and said to Divya, "Aap ki behein toh hai hi itni pyaari. Isse liye toh ussko aap ki behen se, aapki devrani bhi bana ke le aaya." Divya looked at Viren as he kept his eyes on Nivi, then he continued "Aur aap isey aur kya sajaiyengi? In sey khoobsurat toh koi bhi nahi hai."

Nivedita looked up too see Viren smiling down at her. Their eyes met and they just gazed into each other's eyes for a moment. Nivi then pushed past Viren and went to look at more bangles. Divya watched as Viren followed Nivi. Nivi picked up a set of kangans and Viren took them out of her hand and put them back. Divya couldn't help but laugh at how childish the two act around each other.

Finally Viren picked up a set of green and red bangles and put them on Nivi's hand. "Yeh kangan buhut achey hain, lekin tumharey haathon main aur zaayada pyaarey lag rahey hain." Nivi looked at the beautiful set of bangles Viren had picked for her and she ran her fingers over them. "Achey lagey?" Viren asked. Nivi nodded her head. "Kareed looon?" Viren asked and Nivi nodded her head once more. Nivi couldn't help but smile as Viren paid the storekeeper for the bangles and she thought to herself how pretty the kangans were and how they matched perfectly with the sari she would wear tonight during the moun dikhayi.

"Vaah, kamal kardiya tumne Viren." Divya said as she walked towards the pair. "Itni der sey kangan dhoond rahey thay lekin koi kangan acha nahin lagey aur jo achey lagey woh Nivi ki sari ke saath match nahin kar rahey thay. Aur dekho, tum aagaye aur sundar se kangan mil gaye jo sari sey bhi match kar rahey hain." Viren smiled, happy to know that his choices and decisions never let him down. He looked over to see Nivi who was still staring at her bangles.

"Saare shopping katham? Ghar le chaloon?" Viren asked. Divya and Nivi nodded and they all walked to where Viren had parked the car.

Divya watched as Viren held the door open for Nivi and wished that Sid would do some of the things that Viren does for Nivi. Then she shook away the thought and looked around. Once Viren got into the car, he honked for Divya. "Kya hua? Gaadi mein bhetein.'' Viren said as he rolled down the window.

"Nahin Viren. Nivi aur mein humari gaadi main aaye thay aur woh gaadi abhi aajayegi. Tum dono tumhare gaadi main jao, mein uss gaadi main ghar aajaaungi." Divya said. "Aur mujhe mhendi bhi kareed ni hain tabhi toh Nivi nayi dulhan ke jaise dikhey gi aaj raat." Nivi looked to her di and knew something was wrong but Divya had started to walk away before Nivi could say anything.

As Divya walked towards one of the shops, she thought about how Sid never really does anything for her. She thought of how two days after the wedding Sid started going back to work and how at one point he started coming home later and later. 'Meine soocha tha, mera pyaar ko dekhar Siddarth ko thoda sa pyaar hojaye ga mere liye. Lekin nahin'' Divya thought to herself as she saw Viren and Nivedita drive past her.

Nivi looked out to see Divya lost in her own thoughts and felt a little worried. Nivi could not help but think as to why had Divya's mood changed suddenly? What was she thinking? Nivi sat quietly and looked at the bangles that were still on her hands. The design was so breath taking that she just wanted to put them away so they never get destroyed.

Viren looked over to see Nivi staring down at her hands. Viren then grabbed Nivi's right hand and started playing with it using only one hand to steer the wheel. Nivi pulled her hand away but Viren grabbed her hand again. "Itney pyaarey kangan mujhe bhi dekhney hain." Viren said tugging at Nivi's hand.

"Baad main dekhlena. Abhi theek sey gaadi chalao." Nivi said pulling her hand away. At this point Nivedita was used to Viren's flirty ways as he used to always flirt even before they got married. It always made her laugh how he never got rid of his old habits. Then Nivi closed her eyes and remembered earlier in the day. The way they were so close yet so far. Nivi thought to herself how she and Viren have never purposefully come as close as they did today. But today it was as if something was pushing them together and' it was different. She felt something. It was a new feeling that she had never felt before. The closer their faces came, the faster her heart started beating.

All of a sudden the car stopped and Nivi opened her eyes. They were home already and the khhoti was decorated as if it were a wedding house. Viren got out of the car and held Nivi's door open for her. Viren grabbed all the shopping bags and walked towards the khhoti. When Nivi tried to take a bag from his hand to help him out, he moved away so she couldn't take any of the bags from him.

Once entering the Sood house, Viren and Nivi saw workers all over decorating the khhoti and putting up lights and flowers. Viren and Nivi were amazed at how much Bhupat was doing for their late moun dikhayi. In a distance, Nivi heard a familiar voice. She turned to see Sharmila yelling at one of the workers.

When Sharmila saw Viren and Nivi she came over to the pair and asked how everything was going and if they liked the decorations so far. Viren said it was amazing but would have been better if Nivi was a part of the designer team. Sharmila looked at the blushing Nivi and said of course, she was always such an important member of our team and Nivi couldn't help but smile.

Sharmila then asked how the marriage was going and Viren once again replied that it was going very well. Sharmila looked at Nivi who hadn't said a word and asked her when is she and Viren planning on having some kids. Before Viren could say a word, Sharmila stopped him and said this question is for Nivi only. Sharmila asked again and just as Nivi was about to say something, Chancal came screaming for Sharmila and asked Sharmila whether she was here to socialize or get the work done and Sharmila quickly left.

Nivi let out a sigh of relief and she and Viren headed back to their bedroom. Viren put all the shopping bags by the closet and jumped onto the bed while Nivi went to the mirror to comb her hair. "Kuch poochun?" Viren asked.

"Kya poochna hai ?" Nivi asked as she turned to face Viren, still combing her hair.

"Kya jawab dehti?" Viren asked Nivi, raising his eyebrows.

"Kya jawab? Kis baarey main?" Nivi asked kind of confused at to what Viren was talking about.

"Jo savaal Sharmila ne tum sey poocha." Viren said quickly, anticipating Nivi's reply.

Nivi turned back around and put the comb on the table and said "Mujhe nahin paata." while still turned away from Viren. She started to walk past him when he grabbed the aanchal of her sari. Nivi turned back to see Viren holding on to her sari and she tugged back on her aachal for him to let it go. Viren tugged on it harder and ended up pulling Nivi on top of him.

Nivi fell on top of Viren and landed on the bed yet again. She quickly composed herself and stood right back up when she felt another tug on her sari. "Viren!" Nivi said exasperated. She turned around to see that her sari had got caught on one of the buttons of his shirt and she felt a little embarrassed to have already blamed him when this time it wasn't his fault.

Nivi moved close to Viren to try to unhook her sari from his button when there was a knock on their door. Nivi tried to quickly free her sari from being caught on Viren's shirt but it wasn't working. There was another knock on the door and then Vandhana entered to see Nivi and Viren. Vandhana started laughing as Viren attempted to unhook Nivi's sari but it still wasn't working. Vandhana said "Tum dono jaldi neechey aajao, khaana taiyaar hain. Phir jo karna chatey ho, baad main karna. Mera maatlab, moun dikhayi ke baad." and Vandhana walked away laughing, closing their bedroom door behind her.

Nivi looked at Viren who was still trying to get her sari off of his button and started laughing. "Yeh saab tumhare zid key karan. Dekho aab Vandhana chachi kya sooch rahi hongi."
