Luckily road shows are a big attraction still. Mumbai cost of living is very high and competition is great. Yes often MDs do not want to take risk with newcomers.
Releasing records does not guarantee anything and needs heavy promotion. Even then piracy and free downloads leaves nothing much for the singers.
So regular income has to come from shows and appearances.
Alternative is giving music lessons, if one is qualified.
These days even MDs are facing a challenge.
But the music market is getting larger and there is more TV coverage too.
Each has to find their own niche.
