SRK's Two States needs a leading lady

Shah Rukh Khan's next film, a screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's Two States to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, has been announced and the field is wide open for a leading lady to be signed opposite him. Now that makes for an interesting pairing, as it wasn't too many weeks ago, when names like Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were thrown around.

"However at that time, things were a little different," says an industry insider, "The rights of Two States are with Sajid Nadiadwala who was earlier planning to make this film with Siddharth Anand (after their last collaboration Anjaana Anjaani). Since Siddharth is close to Saif Ali Khan (after working with him in Salaam Namaste and Ta Ra Rum Pum), the actor was finalised for the role." This was the time when the choice between Priyanka Chopra or Deepika Padukone had to be made. However, Sajid Nadiadwala kept mum about it and hadn't finalised any of the two.

"Now that Siddharth is no longer directing the film, Sajid is in conversation with Vishal and a joint call would be taken soon," said our source.

Now this would indeed be an interesting development due to many reasons. Firstly, Vishal has already worked with Priyanka in two films ' Kaminey and Saat Khoon Maaf.

Similarily, Shah Rukh is already working with Priyanka in Don 2. On the other hand, he and Deepika haven't worked together since Om Shanti Om and if the duo comes together, it will be one reunion that would be much talked about. Also, Sonakshi Sinha and Katrina Kaif too haven't worked with Shah Rukh till date and together, they may well give Bollywood a new pairing.

While the speculation continues, our source says, "Whether it is Priyanka, Deepika, some other leading lady or a newcomer will be known in a few days from now. Just wait and watch."

For heaven Sake. Please no Katrina or Priyanka. I think probably sonakshi will be approached ( i hope she says yes, if offered) if not then Deepika, she has improved a lot!!

On Khan's insistence, the actress is out of Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's 2 States and the hunt for a "fresher face" has started

Shah Rukh Khan does not have a camp of heroines. If you have worked with him in the past, it does not imply that you will feature again in his future projects. Piggy Chops has learnt this the hard way.

Despite having worked with King Khan in Don (2006) and now Don 2, Priyanka cannot assume she will act with the superstar in the film version of Chetan Bhagat's novel 2 States. Apparently, King Khan felt that Priyanka would not suit the role of the female lead and that a fresher and younger face would.

SRK voiced his opinion to Vishal Bhardwaj, who is directing the film now. Vishal agreed with SRK's idea and soon Piggy was out of the project. The hunt for a fresh face has begun.

SRK and Sajid Nadiadwala are co-producers of the film. A source said, "Initially when the film was solely produced by Nadiadwala, it was Siddharth Anand who was directing the film and Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka were to play the lead roles. Although Saif and Siddharth are no longer in the project, Priyanka still continued to be the choice for the leading lady. Until now that is."

The source continues, "Vishal flew down to Berlin, where SRK and Piggy were shooting for Don 2. He narrated the revised script to both the actors in the same room; sure enough they liked it. This was the second narration Piggy Chops was hearing, after the one from Siddharth."

fter returning home, SRK apparently had a meeting with Vishal and he told him that he wanted a new actress in the lead role.

Explaining exactly what SRK said to Vishal, our source said, "He told Vishal that he knew Priyanka was one of his favourite heroines, but the demands of the script could not be ignored."

SRK and Vishal didn't revert to us about this story. And maybe poor Chops doesn't even know. What a state to be in.
