Karunya on meeting expectations

My very first topic after a loooong time!

I just was inspired to write this out after reading Karunya's chat transcript. For all those who think that the judges are biased and that Karunya's becoming over confident......it is evident from the chat transcript that he's beyond all that......to me he seems like a typical 19 year old who's still discovering himself and is slightly scared even and hence puts on a face of confidence. Yes he's confident of his talent (then again he has no reason to not be so!) but there's also the immense amount of expectations which comes with being praised so highly almost all the time. He has to meet the expectations of his parents, the judges and most importantly of the fans. I'm a singer (although after watching Karunya I feel ashamed to say so!) and I know how hard it is to meet people's expectations while performing and this kid has to do so each and every time he performs. I realise that the same goes for Sandeep too but the judges expectations of him are far less that of Karunya's probably coz of the consistently good performances that Karu has been dishing out! He himself mentioned that the expectations are scaring him and that people cannot expect him to be amazing all the time! Normal school-going kids can't take pressure from their parents alone and now this kid has an entire nation and more (including us NRI's) pinning their hopes on him.....to perform that well under that much of pressure takes a really spectacular human being who's confident, humble and very well rooted. So I have to disagree with people who say he's over-confident......coz if anything he's humble enough not to let all that praise get to him and to continue to work hard to consistently perform well!

😊I completely agree with you. He is never over confident, and it looks like he is a bit scared by the hype he is getting from the judges, as it some times create some negitive and jelous feelings in some. He is just 19 and he knows that he has to work hard, but at the same time beeing little confident is not bad. I am glad that Sonu is praising him a lot. Hema Chandra never got the support from his mentors, and also from Z channel. Only i pray that all Indians now should see the difference between Sandeep and Karu 's singing. I have nothing against Sandeep. He is a very sweet and cute person, but still singing wise he is far below Karu. I hope and pray that Karu wins the Indian Idol title, as no doubt he is the only desrving among the two.

Karunya despite being a teenager has always seemed far too matured for his age. He also is confident of himself and his talent which is often mistaken as arrogance and attitude.

karen tho kya karen?....if he is confident on stage people say he is over confident .....if he is nervous people like farah khan say that you should open up and khulkey perform karna hai ..kuch kami rahgayi....people will be judjing you no matter what ....people are overcritical... 😛

Very well said. If any, Karunya is very humble. He has been singing since he was 3 and has won several contests before. So winning or performing well is not new to him. So obviously he is confident about his voice, which is very important for success.

i think people have problems with confident people because they know they can't dominate them and so they feel inferior ...so the alternative is to say his smile is good, he is more likable, he is not over-confident, when a person can't even say 2 sentences without pausing how can u even say the person is confident or over-confident... 😕
