Chapter Six

She looked at the file and the proposal was flawless. She knew the budget was a little higher, but it was well worth it. She just wished she hadn't spilled the tea all over it and could read who the proposal was from. She put the files next to Baba's chair on the dining table and went to make his morning juice.

"Gopi Beta, Jai Shri Krishna. Did you get a chance to review the proposals I gave you last night? I would love your opinion before I left for the office." He suddenly noticed her hand and got worried. "What is this beta? How did it happen? Let me see. Let's go to the doctor right now and have it looked at. You need to take better care of yourself. You're always thinking about everyone else but you."

"Baba it's okay it's only a small burn. I burned it on a candle last night. It will heal. Baba I did get a change to read the proposal and I can see why you narrowed down to these two companies. They have excellent proposals. In my opinion Baba, I think this company has the stronger proposal." She handed the file over to her Baba. Baba looked at her opinion and was surprised. He thought she would definitely be on the same page and both Rahul and himself.

"Really Gopi Beta? You really think this is the stronger contender amongst the two? Rahul and I were thinking the other company. A & U has a lower budget and the profit would be higher with a lower budget." Gopi was about to answer when the doorbell rang. She excused herself from her Baba and went to answer the door. There were some packages delivered. It was from her shopping from the previous day. Well, Kamya had done most of the shopping she had simply walked alongside her. That girl could really spend hours at a mall without even realizing it. "Gopi beta I am running late for the office. Why don't you come with me and you can explain your opinion to both Rahul and myself there." Gopi grabbed her laptop and went alongside Sanjeev to Shah Industries. Gopi walked into Shah Industries and was greeted with smiles.

"Gopi madam, I haven't seen you in ages. How are you doing?"

"Radha maasi please call me Gopi not Gopi madam. You are my elder, like my aunt." Radha loved Gopi and her values. She was such a wonderful girl and she knew she had filled her boss's life with lots of love and happiness. Inside the office Rahul was already waiting for Sanjeev ready to discuss the hotel project.

"Gopi! It's so nice to see you here today. Have you come to discuss about the Hotel Construction Project?"

"Yes I have Rahul and I want to say that Baba already told me about your opinion on the stronger contender and I simply disagree. I definitely think this is the stronger contender and I will tell you why." She handed the file to Rahul and continued on with her speech. I understand that A & U Group of Companies has a smaller budget but this other company has a better proposition. A & U has a smaller budget because they plan to destroy people's homes to construct hotels. They are proposing on leaving thousands of people around the country homeless. Is that the way you would like to start such a project? This company has used a method around that. This will not only leave you in a better limelight with the public, but you will gain a higher profit in the long run because more business will want to work with you and your hotels. If you go with A & U proposal, the name and respect of this company will go down the drain and you will have less company's wanting to deal with your hotels or Shah Industries. Do you want to risk a lifetime of respect for a little more profit?" Rahul and Sanjeev were stunned. Gopi was thinking with her heart. This thought hadn't come across either one of them because all they had been concerned about was money. They knew she was right and that they should accept Modi Industries proposal. It looks like the decision had been made. Sanjeev was proud. He knew his daughter would be a great asset to Shah Industries. "Oh by the way Baba the name of the company was wiped out from the tea on my file. Who is the other company that sent this proposal?" Before Sanjeev could respond Gopi's cell went off. "Just a minute Baba it's Kamya. You and Rahul discuss the rest and I'll go outside and take this call." With that she left the office and answered her cellphone. "Yes Kamya how's it going?"

"Oh Gopi nothing is going right. My parents have set the engagement and wedding date so soon that I am not going to have time to get everything done. On top of that the construction on our house isn't going to be done on time so we have to have both the engagement and wedding at a hotel. Can you believe that? I always dreamed it to be in our house where it would feel more cozy and inviting. I always wanted my bidaai to be from my home. " Gopi laughed and told her not to worry.

"Why are you worrying so much Kamya. I am here and I will make sure that everything goes perfectly. Plus you can have both your engagement and you wedding at my house. I'm sure Baba won't mind. My home is your home Kamya so it will be like having your bidaai from your home."

"That's so awesome Gopi thank you so much. I knew there was a reason why I loved you so much. Besides that Gopi you have to do me a huge favor for the engagement. Please don't say no. It can be my gift. Promise me you won't say no." Gopi laughed at Kamya again.

"Are Kamya at least tell me what it is?"

"No first promise me that you won't say no." Gopi promised her and Kamya continued. "Gopi you have such a sweet singing voice. I've heard it every morning when you do the aarti. Please tell me you will sing and dance at my engagement." Gopi was horrified. How was she going to do this? She was frightened at the mere thought of singing in public let alone dancing. "Now before you say anything remember you promised." Gopi simply replied a worried okay. "Great. Now come meet me at the mall. We have a lot of shopping and planning to do before the engagement next week." Gopi walked back into the office.

"Gopi beta you are right. A & M Group of Companies is not right for this project. Thank you so much beta. We were about to make a big mistake by giving them this contract. In fact Rahul is calling them right now telling them their proposal has been accepted. We are going to arrange a meeting next week and I think you should be there because they got this contract only because of you."

"That's good to hear Baba. I think you have made a good decision."

"Was that Kamya beta? Did she need something?"

"Yes Baba it was Kamya. She was telling me her engagement and wedding dates have been set. I told her that she could have both at our house because of the construction at hers. I hope it's okay."

"Of course Beta, I know she is a very dear friend of yours. We will have a grand wedding and engagement for her. I bet she's making you go to the mall right now right?" he chuckled. "Go beta have fun. You really need it. You have been gloomy since yesterday morning. Maybe it will take you mind off of everything else." Gopi thanked her Baba and got her car out. She felt like driving so she gave the driver the day off. She parked her car and walked into the mall. She looked around and couldn't see Kamya anywhere. She pulled out her cellphone and dialed her number.

"Where are you Kamya? I'm waiting for you by the food court. Hurry up. We have a lot to do."

"Shanti Gopi shanti. You sound like my mom right now. Turn around sweetie. I'm right behind you." She beamed Gopi her biggest smile as she put her cellphone inside her bag. Let's go, we have lots to accomplish before my big day." Gopi laughed at her pagal friend and walked along her to their destination.
