Jay Soni's Interview

He has proved looks are not everything an actor's fate is decided on. It is the character and the justice done to it that makes an actor worthwhile. TellyCafe.com caught up with talented Jay Soni aka Ishan Kashyap of Star Plus's Sasural Genda Phool. Here are a few excerpts,

Q. How is Jay different from Ishan Kashyap?

Ans. We are very similar. I am very emotional at heart. I will really love my girl the way I love Suhana onscreen. Only one thing that doesn't match is the patience that Ishan says. I don't think I can be as a patient as him. It is very difficult.

Q. So are you seeing someone?

Ans. No no no. Currently I am single.

Q. When did you decide you wanted to be an actor?

Ans. As a child I did not know what I wanted to be. I tool things as they came. I did my graduation in commerce from Mumbai. Then I started giving auditions. I saw responses coming from ad films. So I thought why not give a try to acting. That is how my acting career has evolved.

Q. Are you from Mumbai?

Ans. In my childhood I was in Gujrat. But since my college days I have been in Mumbai along with my family.

Q. How did Sasural Genda Phool happen to you?

Ans. I was giving auditions for various shows. When I gave audition for this I was sure I will not get a call because I felt somehow I didn't fit the bill. But surprisingly I got a call and I was really happy to accept this offer.

Q. Which is your favorite character in Sasural Genda Phool?

Ans. It has to be Ishan. It is really difficult to be a person like Ishan in real life. The way he handles situations and solves is so beautiful. He makes sure whatever decision he takes no body is hurt and most of the times he has been successful also in doing so.

Q. Who is your favorite off screen on the sets?

Ans. There is no one in particular. I get along with everyone present on the sets. Whether they are actors or production team people, I am friendly to everyone.

Q. Where do you see yourself in next couple of years?

Ans. I wish Sasural Genda Phool keeps getting its share of response and I never have to look for anything else around. After this if there are any good bollywood assignments that come up then I would love to take them up.

Q. Your show recently finished 200 episodes. How does it feel?

Ans. It has really made me happy that sasural Genda phool has finished 200 episodes. Its just amazing the kind of response the show is getting. I hope this continues ahead also and we get to do many more celebrations.

Q. Ragini Khanna, your on screen partner is doing Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa. She will be busy with that show So how will you manage your shoot timings now?

Ans. I don't have to manage in this. It's the production team who will have to manage this.

Q. But you have your particular shoot timings. As you both are the leads, you will have to shoot more than the others. So it might happen that you will have to work extra to finish the episodes.

Ans. I don't stress for things like this. We have a 12 hour shift. Production house will manage mine and her timings. I will co-operate how much ever I can.

Q. When does viewers get to see Suhana and Ishan close as a couple?

Ans. May be very soon. I don't know how soon but it will happen for sure.

Q. Your favorite scene till now.

Ans. My favorite scene is the one where Ishan explains Suhana that he cannot be Sid. He is Ishan Kashyap ans cannot become Sid at any point in their lives. It really nice how politely Ishan explains her everything.

Q. What is so unique about your show?

Ans. I think the show is so popular because it is very light hearted. People don't feel stressed when they see this show. They feel connected and identify with the show. May be this is the reason why the show has become a hit.

Q. A message to your fans.

Ans. Please Please Please keep giving us love like you have been doing for the past 7 months. I would also appeal to all the guys to be like Ishan so that they can easily handle a girl like Suhana (laughs).
