On the flip side, the Aditya-Priya love track sometimes borders on the filmi.
Maryada Lekin Kab Tak
Monday to Friday, 11.30 pm, Star Plus A 'bold family drama' promised the promos of Maryada Lekin Kab Tak, Star Plus' late night show. And though it doesn't show anything we haven't seen before (suhagraat jokes, wife beating and I'm sure more to come), it's still fairly, engaging fare. And what makes it more interesting is that it is set in Haryana, where all is not well in the Jhakkar family of a senior, respected, reputed SP (Vishwajeet Pradhan). So you have rough and tough Jats throwing around their weight while their wives put on a brave, smiling front. What looks good on the surface is murky deep within. It's a story of four women — Devyani, the wife of the man of the house, her sister, Uttara, who is probably being punished for her sexually overt looks, she tries hard to convince her good-for-nothing husband she loves him for real but is subjected to sexual and physical abuse, then there is Vidya, the family's newly-wed, wide-eyed elder bahu whose husband was forced to marry her by his mother and last but not the least is Priya, a middle-class girl, running away from the demons of her past including a failed relationship. She also happens to be the woman, Jhakkar's youngest son, Aditya is in love with. What works for the story is each episode is reasonably fast paced and has tension writ all over it. The performances especially by the four women are good (we love Indrani Haldar as the calm and composed Devyani). Each of the four women is strong in her own way and we know would eventually fight back when push comes to shove. Priya switches between being vulnerable and strong (with a little help from Aditya). Devyani's relationships with her father-in-law (the two share a warm relationship; with him knowing she is fighting a losing battle yet wanting her to succeed) and sister Uttara (there is an awkwardness between the two despite a sisterly vibe) are two of the high points of the show. The men put in decent performances though Rakesh Bapat as the Haryanvi speaking love-lorn Aditya seems to be the weak link. Kamya Punjabi as the sexy but battered Uttara and Ridhi Dogra as the now-timid-now-fire-and-brimstone Priya are fine. On the flip side, the Aditya-Priya love track sometimes borders on the filmi. Also the drama around goons and thugs hounding Priya and her loser father and brother all the time is completely unnecessary. We know that she has to pay for her past but no need to keep hammering it! However, despite these flaws, Maryada is still watchable. Verdict: ***

Try it. It shows you a different side to women who are probably in every other family carrying their own crosses!

Thanks for posting.

For me Maryada is a solid 5/5. As it is the only program in a very long time that I have watched from the beginning without getting bored.

@Jass same here......this show has got great pace.👏...unlike some shows which take months for even simple sequences to finish 🥱

But i dont agree on one thing.... why does th author think Raquesh is the weak link 😕 I practically watch it for him...

@Armu4eva- I love the pace of the show as well. It is one of the main reasons I watch I hate the shows like Yeh Rishta that just drag on and on.

Raqesh is the best actor, maybe the reviewer thinks that he can do a better job as he has acted in films.

The show and performances are more than just fine, they are brilliant!! I love how the story is equally divided between the four women and my pick of the lot is Kamya Punjabi and the lady who plays Devyani .. actors par excellence 😳 I love the pace of the show, no drag and no filler episodes. Rakesh Bapat isn't a weak link, he is doing fine and with time, he'll settle in with the character- btw I feel each actor needs to get used to character as it's only been a week and we can't judge it so soon. Great work Maryada team 👏

50/5 😃

Nice article,

the show is not good..........its terrific....given its pace.
I may not agree with the all the tracks....but they are filled with high points of drama.
However, I respectfully disagree with the author when it comes to Rakesh. I think Rakesh is one of the main reasons why people caught on to the show as the initial tracks have him in most episodes.
I think Indrani, Rakesh, Kamya, Vishwajeet, Mr Bali and the men who play Mr Pradhan, Rishab and Jaggi are the strong points.
For me the weak link if any are the two girls, Priya and Vidya....especially when they are the 2 main protagonists. I do like them but their act can definitely be better.

Hi Kasturilover,

I completely agree with you on the weak links. I think Priya and Vidya can polish their acting skills some more and I feel that they have a weaker screen presence than the other cast .. maybe they are uncomfortable in front of the camera or aren't completely into the skin of the character. They will definitely improve, it all comes with more experience.

hey thanks :)
yes with experience thy will improve.
they have to be the right blend of vulnerable, simple and determined when required.....with high emphasis on being able to convey pain........thats where they are inadequate....the crying/ anger scenes
Someone like a Ratan or a Pallavi who when they just started out in their careers used to look so innnocent and simple .........but can turn the fire on in a split second.
