I still do not miss Rani or Preity though it's fun to read up on different perspectives regarding films in general...films from a decade back.
Just a random thought:
So, today, on Zee TV (?) or Sony (?), Hum Saath Saath Hai was playing -- I was cringing because there was a song every five minutes and I am not exaggerating. Anyhow, my mother shed tears at the part when Vivek (the elder, obedient, sacrificing son) left his house for the sake of his mum's happiness....then she shed tears again when Vivek magically removes his paralyzed, right hand from his trousers' pocket and places it on his younger brother's hands for assurance. *sniffs*
Last weekend, she couldn't stay awake even for five minutes for Kaminey.
The power of melodramatic, fluffy musicals I tell ya. We can play K3G at our house every day and everyone one would still sit on the sofa biting their nails toward the end wondering if the family would accept the adopted son...but there's no room for films like Kaminey and Maqbool.

It's tuff to alter perceptions, especially when one has been surrounded with melodramatic, emotionally charged up, and manipulative cinema.
